Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Saddest paragraph in the bible s1e19 Gen3:1
Of all the paragraphs in the Bible, this one might be the saddest.
God has allowed choice in His Eden garden, even the choice for rebelling against Him. He has allowed Eve and Adam to surf with the serpent. This results in asking some accusing questions of God and even denying His clear truths. The serpent's arguments are:
- He didn't really say that
- He said it, but He didn't really MEAN it.
Underlying it all is the pride of accusatorially questioning God, when God has made Himself clear.

The Fall
3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.
He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was goodfor food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.
So much to grieve here

Close enough to be engaged with the serpent.
You will be like God ½ truth. Sewed seeds of doubt. Elevated to pride. You are like God, you got this.
Who is like God? Nobody. His alone. His throne authority
His design. His unlimited knowledge. Put hand over our mouths
You will not die 2:17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
God did say you will die. V.1 He said to the woman, “Did God actually say,
4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5Surely. For sure. Definitely going to happen.
Creator says this: if you do this you’ll die. Consequence. Some that never end.
Created says this: question God. Didn’t really mean this. Didn’t really say it.
1. He didn’t say it
a. Many times today. Bible doesn’t definitively teach on Gender, or roles, or submission, or suffering, or sexual purity, or fellowship, divorce
b. Or any of the other INCONVENIENT TRUTHS
i. Ie: stuff I don’t want to do, don’t want to follow, refuse to obey
ii. Sequential study, brings us to them whether we like it or not.
2. He didn’t really mean it
a. You’ll probably not have consequences
b. You aren’t going to die
c. Your grandchildren aren’t going to die
d. Jesus isn’t going to have to come and rescue
e. This really is not a big deal
You are in the right place to question God. This is in your purview. You are in a place to question Him. I (the serpent) are in a place to question Him..I and you have equal footing; our thoughts are of equal or superior value to that of God Himself. My Isaiah 55:8
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
No, I don’t think so God. My opinion is of equal value
3. Who is like God? Who of us is elevated place like that? You and me.
a. We are
