What do rainbows MEAN?
Divine Restraint. Divine Rescue. Divine Relationship******
God gives rainbows, to Noah, and us as a reminder to US that He is mindful of us********
15 I will remember my covenant that is between me and you
. 16 When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
Rainbows are to help us remember judgment, rejoice in rescue, revel in relationship. They are not JUST BEAUTIFUL. Rainbows MEAN SOMETHIN
GEN 9: 12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: 13 I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
Rainbows are to help us remember judgment and the current divine restraint, rejoice in rescue, revel in relationship

Remember judgment: One and done big water flood.
Never again by water
Wont destroy universally until THAT DAY
This is His divine restraint. O we are still evil, still worthy
Perhaps even MORE worthy of a judgment flood!
Rejoice in Rescue
Yes there is a flood
Yes there is righteous response to every intent only ever evil
Yet, in context of consequence God PURSUES
He finds Adam in the Garden after sin
He provides a way of escape for mankind in the ARK
Revel in relationship with the rainbow maker
If we could travel to the “other end of the rainbow” we’d find the rainbow maker
I’m frequently Making rainbows. Reminding us about what He is thinking right now: I’m remembering my covenant; I am keeping this everlasting covenant. I am exercising divine restraint. I am extending divine relationship.
Use our imagination and travel to the end of the rainbow
Find the rainbow maker
This is a rainbow maker that WANTS to be found
First thing we hear is “then God said to Noah”
If this is true in Ch9 of Genesis then here is what we know
This rainbow revelation is not just for then, it is for now
When God gives a rainbow, He is also giving of Himself
Specifically, , when God gives a rainbow, HE TELLS US WHAT HE IS THINKING
We have a covenenal God—good thing, because we are not too covenantal, we try, but we fail a lot.
Whole business is 100% dependent upon HIS character
Rather than any % dependent upon OUR character
Rainbows are primarily about WHO remembers: God remembers
Rainbows are secondarily about who remembers:
Me remembering that God is rememembering me right now
In that He is remembering a covenant that sustains me
Our task: we are to remember, that God is remembering me, right now when He brings a rainbow for me to see******
He keeps the covenant; He brings rainbows, He extends relationship so I can remember, that He is remembering me RIGHT NOW.
Find the rainbow MAKER—He’s gone to GREAT TROUBLE here

Not giving you a flood. (even though I know you really—every intent only ever evil) I am giving you a way through certain destruction. I am blessing your ancestors so perhaps we could even get to this morning.
Not giving you what you deserve. I’m giving you MORE than you deserve by grace: realationship with me. I was with your people through this flood. I am with you now as I hold back the flood we all deserve.
May you find the rainbow maker.
