Drunkenness, Nakedness and Familyness S1e61 Gen9:18

         Divine Restraint. Divine Rescue. Divine Relationship******

What do rainbows MEAN?

God gives rainbows, to Noah, and us as a reminder to US that He is mindful of us********

Our task: we are to remember, that God is remembering me, right now when He brings a rainbow for me to see******

God does the right thing for us with giving covenant, relationship

How does our hero of the rescue behave? How does his family behave? You wont even believe it. The Cursing of Canaan. This unusual episode provides an unexpected sequel to the flood story.

18 The sons of Noah who went forth from the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.) 19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the people of the whole earth were dispersed.

20 Noah began to be a man of the soil, and he planted a vineyard. 21 He drank of the wine and became drunk and lay uncovered in his tent. 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside. 23 Then Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and walked backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned backward, and they did not see their father’s nakedness. 24 When Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had done to him, 25 he said,

       “Cursed be Canaan;

a servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.”

26 He also said,

       “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem;

and let Canaan be his servant.

27    May God enlarge Japheth,

and let him dwell in the tents of Shem,

and let Canaan be his servant.”

28 After the flood Noah lived 350 years. 29 All the days of Noah were 950 years, and he died.

Adam falls, eve falls, Cain falls, Noah saves the world, and then he falls

Drunkenness

         Foolish, out of control

Indiscretion of Children—who are adults

         Honor your father and mother

         Humiliates father and wanted to get brothers in on the joke

                  Hammed it up?

                  Youngest son

         It is a powerful thing what one does with the nakedness of another

                  In marriage, it should be honored and treasured and protected and enjoyed and shared

         Outside of marriage, mostly it should be protected and kept

Noah shouldn’t have been in that position strike one

When he finds out he’s been made the fool, suffered violation, curses Caanan Dt7 “When the Lord your God brings you into the land that you are entering to take possession of it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and mightier than you, 2 and when the Lord your God gives them over to you, and you defeat them, then you must devote them to complete destruction. You shall make no covenant with them and show no mercy to them. 3 You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, 4 for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods.

Caananites will be in the promised land that the Lord was giving to the new people of Israel. Devoted to complete destruction. No covenenat. Nopromises. No mercy. No marriage. No turning g from me. Singleheartedness.

How might I behave?--Noah
