Tania is a māmā-mum of three, kuia-grandma, tuakana-sister, aunty and a strong leader who is the driving force behind our Real Talk kaupapa.
Heavily experienced in the school of life and hard knocks, Tania has come from not so humble beginnings to create a movement that inspires and empowers people all over Aotearoa to speak their truth. In her words ‘It is important to me to utilise this platform as it is intended – to encourage people to speak their truth, to encourage, to motivate, to inspire and to empower all those we connect with. If our kōrero-talk can change or save one life, then it’s all worth it.’
What to expect in each episode REAL, open and honest conversations with people who have seen it all. The subjects covered in our kōrero start with but are not limited to the subjects listed below:
*Suicide and triggers and coping mechanisms
*Mental Health awareness
*Sexual & physical abuse

Real Talk NZ - We are helping to break generational cycles. We are all survivors of traumatic experiences, so we are passionate about using our platform to change the narrative, especially for our rangatahi-youth. We are helping to shine light on traumatic experiences and normalise discussing these once ‘taboo’ topics. Through this, we show others who might be going through a similar path right now that they are not alone. Because when we speak, we heal, when we speak, we free ourselves, when we speak, we help others heal. We encourage everyone to speak their truth because people don't understand what you've been through unless you are real, raw and honest about your experiences.
Our Real Talk kauapapa-events happen regularly throughout Aotearoa and all are welcome. For more info on how to get to an event visit https://realtalknz.co.nz/

Paris Brown at Real Talk Te Matau a Māui / Hawkes Bay
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa, nau mai hoki mai ki te kaupapa Real Talk.
I’m Tania Carr, and today in this episode, you are going to hear the truly empowering story of Paris Brown.
Paris bravely took the stage at our Real Talk Mō Ngā Rangatahi event in Ahuriri in Napier, sharing her story of overcoming some massive obstacles in her life, and being a driving force for our takatapui community. Paris definitely inspires others to live life as their true, authentic self.
Here is Paris’s story...
Kia Ora I’m Paris Brown.
Whakapapa to the 2 Centres of the universe (Whakaki, Pōrangahau) I’m Māori and Transgender. I currently mahi for a place that lets me really connect with our whanau in the community but more so the takatāpui whanau.
A community that tends to be misinterpreted, bullied, harassed, shunned by whanau and the list goes on. My passion and my whole being is of wanting to provide a safe space/environment for our rainbow whanau to feel nurtured, respected, understood and loved but also a place where they can thrive in life it’s self and live a true and authentic life.
Currently in the midst of organising ‘The Twin City Pride Hīkoi’ which is a wero to help combat discrimination with perspiration. A 21km hikoi connecting Napier and Hastings. The time for Takatāpui to showcase who we really are is now.
