Presentation by historian Elise Guyette, author of Discovering Black Vermont: African American Farmers in Hinesburg, 1790-1890, which tells the story of three generations of free African Americans trying to build a life and community in northern Vermont in the years following statehood. In her presentation Dr. Guyette talks about two Black farming families who made their home in Hinesburg starting in the 1790s and their relationship with the Baptist Churches in Hinesburg and Huntington.
