Health and the African Continent: A Perspective from Uganda

Ministerial Staff at Central Schwenkfelder Church

Many westerners take interest in world health, particularly in Africa.  Diseases such as malaria, Ebolavirus, yellow fever, HIV, typhoid, are prevalent in Africa and being addressed by western organizations. Other health conditions such as hydrocephalus and spina bifida are also problematic. In this episode of Centrally Speaking, we interview Tim Erickson, the Executive Director of Cure Children's Hospital of Uganda (https://cure.org/hospitals/uganda/) and Fred Wangwa, the Spiritual Director at the Hospital about health in Africa. From their perspective as administrators of a leading hospital in Uganda dealing with hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and other neurological conditions, they provide a helpful perspective on African healthcare and western aid. They also comment on how Christian spirituality can be of help for healing in Africa.
