Another HOT topic!

What are you supposed to do if your partner does not support your business goals and vision.

was recently delivering my Manifest your Magic vision board workshop when one of the participants asked this questions.  It also kept coming up when I asked on social media what topics listeners are interested in.

Becoming an entrepreneurs is a big decision that affects your partner in more ways than one.  So it’s crucial to communicate and include your partner.

You want to make sure your partner understands and is on the same page with the changes and the disruption that will happen.

Two things that might cause stress in the relationship are finances and lack of time attention.

Your business will probably require investments that might come from the family finances and cause it to be point of conflict.

And if you’re leaving your 9-5, you’ll have to deal with the loss of your pay cheque and income consistency and how that’s going to affect your partner and family.

You want to make sure you clearly communicate the financial impact and figure out a way to deal with it.  You don’t want to make unrealistic expectations and not letting your partner in the loop of what to expect when your business is not generating as planned.  You want to communicate and find solutions before it becomes a major problem.

The other thing that might be causing issues with your partner is that your lack of availability and attention for him and the relationship.

It’s important that let your partner know that they are important to you and that you are prioritizing the relationship.  Ways you can do that is setting time to spend together.  Being present with your partner and unplugging from your work and other distractions such as social media.

What if you do all this and your partner just doesn’t want to be on board with you pursuing your dreams.  In that case, there’s underlying issues that may have nothing to do with you becoming an entrepreneur.

This can provide an opportunity to work on your relationship and discuss some expectations.  Because partners are supposed to support each other.

So why aren't they?

That’s something you’ll need to address if you want the relationship to work for both parties.  It can’t be just one person giving all the time and not receiving.

If both parties and committed to each other, the relationship can grow and they can find a way to grow and flourish.

What happens often is that one partner takes the backseat and becomes supportive for the sake of harmony while the other partner expects to just reap the benefits without giving the same in return.

Then there's the societal and cultural expectations that expect women to always take the supportive role and stay in the shadows.  So when the women starts following her dreams and shining, that makes some feel uncomfortable.

You might get a lot of criticism and hateful comments judging your actions and intentions. This experience can help you grow as person and help you tap into your inner strength and conviction about what you want and what’s important to you.

At the end of the day, you can submit to the cultural and societal pressures, pressure from your partner and extended family or choose to feel fulfilled to follow your dreams and creating the life that you want.

Whatever decision you make, it’s the best decision for you at this time.
