Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Tea with Tina, your favorite podcast, where we talk all things health, fitness, lifestyle and maybe a little bit of tea gets spilled. We chat all about this in a super casual environment, so grab your beverage of choice, sit back, relax and enjoy. Relax and enjoy. Hello, everyone popping in for another episode of the Tea with Tina podcast. So on today's episode, I wanted to relay a message that kind of came out of thin air, but is a fantastic message, and what often the best lessons are that way right. So where this came from was I am running a free 12 days of fitness challenge in my coaching group. This is open to current clients, past clients and anybody anybody completely free. We're doing some giveaways, but the goal of this is they're short workouts that are 15 minutes or less, dumbbell and body weight only, and the goal is to be able to show up every day for the 12 days and do your workouts. Okay, that's the goal, and they're not all like super cardio based or super difficult. Some of them are mobility stretching based, some of them are a little bit more cardio, some of them are more strength. So it's a nice variety and you get a little lesson with each day and on the first day here, everybody was to share their goals for the next 12 days and a lot of them did revolve around just showing up in this busy holiday season, during Christmas season. You know we have all these obligations, or at least expectations. You know, parties, presents, decorating, being kind, kind even though we should be doing that all year um, you know, there's just a lot expected and I feel that energy every year and I often podcast about it because I just, I just feel it.

Speaker 1:

I personally find I'm trying to find more joy in the holidays. There's nothing like inherently bad about the holidays for me. Like, I don't know, like some people you know they might have lost a loved one, or maybe they're not super close with their families, so they feel sad during the holidays. I find myself just feeling more reserved and quiet during the holidays. I don't know why. Maybe that energy I feel of everybody just constantly trying to almost put on a show to meet these needs, and I often wonder how many people actually enjoy doing it and just don't do it just because they feel like they have to. And that part really bothers me and I don't know why. It's very subliminal, almost for me as well, but I've been dealing with that for the past couple years. But we're here and I am enjoying some of the Christmas fun and, don't worry, I'm alright. But, like I said, that always kind of weighs on me.

Speaker 1:

But anyways, going into this lesson, consistency Okay, I have a really great metaphor for this. So consistency is the name of the game. Okay, metaphor for this. So consistency is the name of the game.

Speaker 1:

Okay, think of your workouts as a pass fail system, right? Okay, this is perfect with thinking about consistency. Pass fail system you either do them or you don't. You may need a 70% to pass, right? Have you ever taken a test where it's like it's pass, fail, as long as you get to 70% of the questions, right, you're gonna pass. And then when you get your test results back, sometimes they do give you the percent, but a lot of times they'll just say whether you pass or fail. They don't tell you. You know how close it was, how close you were to failing. Or, you know, did you get 90%? It's just pass, fail, right, and it was enough to pass.

Speaker 1:

I think a lot of us put too much weight, emotion and precious energy into the little details. You know, oh, I wasn't feeling 100% that workout so I sucked. That's an automatic fail. I didn't lift as much weight as last time, so I failed. I felt really rushed during that workout. I had to squeeze it in last minute so, you know, it just didn't feel, you know, like a good workout. It sucked. So we really focus on those little details and we need to zoom out and see the bigger picture. Yes, your feelings are valid but, honestly, who cares? Because your main goal right now and the reason that you're probably not reaching the goals you have for yourself and the reason you're not progressing, is because you're not consistent, right, that is the main thing. If you complete your workout, you passed okay. If you complete your workout, you passed Okay. If you completed your workout, you passed.

Speaker 1:

I think, so many times we get caught up in, like you know, were my workout clothes cute? Did I get enough sleep? Did this feel amazing? And I had an endorphin rush? Was it at the perfect time? You know? Did I not feel rushed? Did I feel like? You know, every move felt great, the form was great. My weight? I went up in weight and that's just unrealistic. You're going to have a lot of the workouts are going to feel meh. Some of the workouts are going to feel crappy. Some of the workouts are going to feel great. You're going to feel everything.

Speaker 1:

But again, as long as you made it through, you pass, just like the test. You're not going to be able to go in and say, oh well, you know, this is how it felt when I did the workout. No, it's just oh, you did the workout. Check you get your checkbox right, even like high school. It's kind of like that. When you get your um, you know your diploma. Nobody's like going in and going.

Speaker 1:

What grades did you get in your math class? How did you feel about taking your math class? Was your math class? Was it? Did you have fun and were you amazing and were your notes written perfectly? And you just got you know a's on every single test. Or how was gym class? Were you perfect in gym class? Like no, they don't go in that far right, when you zoom out and see the bigger picture, you did enough to pass.

Speaker 1:

And that's how you need to treat your workouts and and even your nutrition and habits in general. And here's the one thing too, one big thing for you to remember once you've nailed consistency, you earn the right to be picky. Right, right. We cannot look at the more minute details until we've actually gotten consistent. No matter how messy it looks, no matter how ugly it looks, consistency is key. It's at the root of everything. So then come back to me with all your little nitpicks and all your details, with all your little nitpicks and all your details. When you actually show up consistently, day in, day out, week after week, month after month, and you've been putting in the reps, then we can fine-tune it right. So I thought that message was really powerful and I just wanted to share with you. Um, I'm not going to elaborate too much because I want you to absorb that message and interpret it how you see fit.

Speaker 1:

If you hear a jingly ball in the background, that is my kitten, who has way too much energy. It makes it challenging for me to record. Sometimes he was actually attacking me in the middle of recording this with his very sharp claws that he does not realize are that sharp. One swat and he, like, opens my skin and I start to bleed. But anyways, enjoy this message. Have a great rest of your day and I'll chat with you soon. Bye.
