As Canadians, the sport of Hockey is an intrinsic part of our national identity. In this episode of #thespaceinbetween, Cam Brown and I speak with Tom Scanlan, hockey enthusiast, historian, and Curator of a collection of game used  hockey sticks from every 500 goal scorer in the NHL.

Perhaps more important than the sticks themselves, are the stories, which go along with them  Stories about the great "Rocket" Richard, Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, and many more. Tom takes us on a journey through the history of Hockey and in doing so allows us to connect with our own personal memories associated with  the game - memories of our first hockey stick, playing shinny on a frozen pond or makeshift outdoor rink; Our heroes, who we sought to emulate during our regular games of ball hockey - "Bobby Hull's at the point; he winds up, he shoots he scores!" ; Where we were when Paul Henderson scored the winning goal in the '72 Canada Russia Series, or simply memories of going with your dad or grandfather to see a game at Maple Leaf Gardens, and if you were really lucky, catching a glimpse of your favourite players as they emerged from the dressing room ...As Canadians, hockey is part of our collective conscience and inspires our#loveofthegame ...#ForWhatit'sWorthwithBlakeMelnick
