Pastor Daniel Stevens

Welcome to Part 7 of our series, "Seeing Others Through God’s Eyes." This message focuses on dealing with cognitive bias, based on Matthew 7:1-6, 12. Jesus' teaching, "Judge not, that you be not judged," urges us to reflect on how we judge others, knowing that our judgments can influence our own eternal outcomes. Instead of engaging in straw man arguments, we're encouraged to help others build their strongest cases and seek truth over simply winning debates, following James 1:19.

Matthew 7:3-5 addresses our tendency to overlook our flaws while criticizing others. Jesus uses the metaphor of specks in our eyes to urge honesty about our shortcomings. This honesty, along with responsibility and personal growth (Ephesians 4:22-24, Philippians 2:12-13), allows us to genuinely help others. Matthew 7:6 reminds us to be wise and discerning, protecting our relationship with God. The Golden Rule in Matthew 7:12 sums it up: by seeing things from others' perspectives, we can eliminate biases.
