Speaker 1:

Thank you, hello and welcome to the Pig and Whistle Tales from Azeroth. As always here at the Pig and Whistle Inn in Stormwind, I go over a variety of subjects with regards to World of Warcraft, so grab a bottle or a pint, sit back and enjoy this midweek episode. We'll be looking over a few forum posts, mainly looking at newer player stuff. And well, that's kind of it really. We're going to be looking at newer player stuff, as this is where a lot of people struggle in this sort of genre of the game the mmos, um. So, yeah, let's just get straight into the first one. So any advice for a new player? Hi, I've only just started playing the game. I downloaded the free trial to level 20, which was surprisingly a big file nearly 90 gigs. Um, firstly, yes, it's going to be always a big file, so the trial is the entire game itself that you download. And, yeah, it is, it's the entire game. It is ridiculous, but this means that essentially you're downloading the entire like world. You have to excuse my voice, it is a bit croaky. I've, um, yeah, not been feeling great today, um, but yeah, essentially you're downloading the entire games because when you get to, you do level 1 to level 10 content and once you do this in its isolated like zone, essentially you go out into the open world and you can go and level wherever you want. Hence why you have to download the entire game, as it is one big sort of package, I guess is the best way to put it. But yeah, that's why it is 90 gig.

Speaker 1:

Firstly, I've started playing on the Terracar server and I bumped into a few players whilst trying out different characters. Is this a good server? Should I be on another? So far I've tried Hunter, monk and Demon Hunter. I like the Monk so far. But whilst on the Monk, another player told me I could get Dragonflight For two, three months For £20. And essentially he tried that. And now he's playing Evoker. Now Evoker is one of them classes which doesn't have a lot of buttons, but it is enjoyable from a fantasy point of view. In my honest opinion, the best thing I can say is you've tried out several of these classes. He said he tried out Hunter, monk and Demon Hunter. Now he tried out Evoker as well and liked it, which is fair enough.

Speaker 1:

As a newer player, I think the best thing you can do is stick to having that one main. So in this case it's the evoker, and what this means is essentially that you aren't trying to learn the class itself whilst trying to learn the game. I don't really know how to explain that. So if you're trying to learn the game the fundamentals of the game, which is, go through leveling, then eventually do end game content you're going to be a lot better at doing the fundamentals of the game itself whilst knowing your class a lot better. If you are learning your class still whilst trying to figure out the fundamentals of the game, you are not going to be as fluent in that, if that makes sense. So someone who plays the same class from level whatever it is 10 to 70, and you are constantly learning your class and when you get to max level you are pretty fluent in your class, essentially you're going to be a lot better at the game than you would be if, say, you get to like level 30 with one class, don't enjoy it, and then you go to another class and you know, try and learn that and stuff like that.

Speaker 1:

Now, obviously, the fundamentals of the game you'll be picking up along the way, but the class itself, whatever class or specialization you're playing, you won't have any sort of knowledge on. So you would need to re pick up that knowledge, and this is especially as important in like dungeons, because if you're very good at a class in a dungeon, then these sort of skills will transfer across to other classes. You just need to simply learn the other classes, like rotations and stuff like that, whereas PvP you could go about it the complete opposite way. You could play every single class and understand them to a very simple degree, but you wouldn't be able to do PvP until later on, because obviously you're leveling a lot of different classes. So the fundamentals of PvP won't be there, but the fundamentals of the classes will be. That makes any sense. Um, he says I still have a lot of classes to try out yet, or try out yet, though. Uh, there is so much I still don't understand about the game. Anyways, I'm waffling. I'm an older guy and wanted to know how I go about finding a guild or some sort of social group who play Whilst I'm learning the game. As I realise, being new to such a long-standing game will test the patience of a lot of experienced players, but so far I'm enjoying it and imagine I will play for a long time. Additionally, if anyone has any tips or advice for a new player, things I should know, etc. It's appreciated For a community.

Speaker 1:

Now this one is in-game. I'm not too sure if it works or not still, or I'm not too sure how active it is, but if you press shift and then J, so hold down shift and then J, it should bring up a communities tab. This communities tab you can search for guilds, communities, anything really, and again, I'm not really sure how active it is. But my best bet with this is if you go on to Google and simply type in TerraCard, like server, terracard, eu server or something like that discord, you will find a discord channel which is for that realm and this is probably the best way that you can find like more people essentially to play with, whether it be a guild or friends or anything along them lines. That's probably the best way to go about doing that.

Speaker 1:

As for any tips and stuff, a lot of people are going to tell you that you need add-ons. Okay, what add-ons do, is they? Well, there's loads of add-ons, but they do certain things. So there's UI add-ons, but they do certain things. So there's UI add-ons which change the complete base of the UI itself. There are sort of I don't know how to explain it. There's useful add-ons, which is like weak auras and cool down, tracking, stuff like that. And then there's, you know, gathering auras gathering weak no, not gathering auras gathering add-ons, where, if you're more of a profession based player, it will tell you where the herbs are, the minerals and stuff like that. But essentially, you don't need any of these. Please try and refrain from getting these when you're first learning the game, because a lot of people will say you need them, but it does complicate the game a lot more.

Speaker 1:

Once you have the fundamentals down. This is when you can certainly look into these sort of things, ok, and you know, certainly look into these sort of things. Okay, and you know there are a lot of add-ons that can help you with the game. But trying to figure them out at the same time as figuring out the game itself really isn't good. It isn't a good idea in the slightest, and it should be avoided when possible in the slightest, and it should be avoided when possible. Um, as for that, I think that's pretty much it with this guy. I, a lot of people who are new to the game do get a little overwhelmed, and it's to be expected. It really, really is now it's.

Speaker 1:

It's tough to get into these sort of games with the amount of content that's out there, with the amount of just years behind the game. But if you take it slow and at your own pace, don't let anyone pressure you into like, essentially, speed running the game, because that's never fun. In some games it can be, don't get me wrong, but in this game you've got to take it slow and you've got to learn the fundamentals and after that you'll be completely fine to check out add-ons, all of that stuff. It's one of these games that you can't rush, essentially, and that's probably the biggest piece of advice that you can get. Um, I will end it here. This is a very short one. I do have to say sorry for that. It's a few things have happened in this time. I'm testing everything out again. Um that, and I just genuinely don't feel great. But thank you all very much for listening. Do check out all the socials and stuff down below, constant stuff happening over there. Thank you all very much and go, valor friend, goodbye all. Thank you.
