Chris Sargent, President and CEO at the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region, is no stranger to mergers. In 2012, both cities merged their United Way organizations into one non-profit in order to pool resources while focusing on the needs of the community.

Now, Sargent will bring that perspective to a new merger with the Capital Area United Way in Lansing and the United Way of Jackson County. He has been president and CEO of the organization since 2017.

The new organization will be called the United Ways of South Central Michigan.

In this episode, Sargent addresses the overall rationale for the newest merger, as well as how a focus on Battle Creek and Kalamazoo will not change.
