Echoes of Shannon Street Case File (Mayhem in the Midsouth / Fallen Badge / Coffee Tea and Crime)
Shannon Street: It is to this day the largest number of suspects to die in a non-riotous local police action in the history of the United States. January 11 - 13, 1983, in Memphis, TN two white Police Officers are taken hostage by a black religious cult. One officer is shot but is able to escape. The second officer is not so fortunate. As hundreds of officers descend upon the house at 2239 Shannon Street, negotiations begin between the police and the leader of the group. The leader, Lindberg Sanders, believes he is little Jesus and the world is coming to an end. Thirty hours later, the officer is dead and all seven suspects are killed by the all-white tactical unit. Listen to each episode as the 1,000+ page investigation is recounted.
