So you want to be a DBT Therapist? But Academia is bullshit Part 1 (Feat. Brooke)
Jul 14, 2024
Sara Abbott, MSW, LCSW, LICSW

This episode did not go where Brooke and I planned and at first I had like a week's worth of guilt and shame. Did I overstep? Did Brooke think I was dissing her path? Did I hurt her feelings? Will everyone who listens think I'm abusive?

ALL THE FEARS.

And then I listened back and realized that Brooke and I had a super rad conversation and it was uncomfortable for both of us at times to engage in dialogue about how our work and our degrees won't give us any authentic and sincere worth at the end of the day - it is fleeting at best because there will always be the next thing. Worth is internal and Brooke's future as a DBT Therapist and advocate will be bright and beautiful no matter what way she enters it. And I'm allowed to misstep with my boundaries sometimes because of my passion and ethics about my field. This episode series will be two parts and next week is even more beautiful. Thank you, Brooke!
