Hello there. This is your host Jean Fisher Brinkley, and I wanted to share a special year-end MedBoard Matters message with you.

As 2022 winds down, it seems appropriate to reflect on the year that we've had with the MedBoard Matters podcast.

In our view this year has been fantastic, and we've covered some very important topics both for our licensee base and for members of the public.

Our top three episode this past year were:

No. 1: Patient dismissals: Preserving patient welfare when cutting ties

No. 2: Cultural Competence in Medicine

And coming in at No. 3: Medication for opioid use disorder: Our best chance to turn the tide on overdose deaths

When we started this podcast two years ago, we did it at the urging of our Board Members and some visiting medical students who shared that podcasts are one of the keyways they stay informed on all things medical.

So, we jumped in and since then, we’ve produced 26 episodes and have had almost 4,500 downloads from 34 different countries. That makes us feel pretty good. So, I want to say a hearty ‘Thank you’ to our listeners.

I also wanted to let you know that we've decided to take a little break for the holiday season so that we can rest, rejuvenate, and recalibrate for the coming year.

We will be back in February starting with a two-part series on the licensee’s Duty to Report (aka N.C. Gen. Stat. §90-5.4) It requires medical professionals licensed by the North Carolina Medical Board to report:

1. Any sexual misconduct by a licensee of the Board

2. Any fraudulent prescribing, drug diversion or theft of controlled substances by a licensee

During our short break, I want to encourage you to go back and listen to the previous seasons of MedBoard Matters so you don’t miss us too much.

Also, we are asking for a little gift from you this year. Please share us with your friends, family, colleagues, or anyone you think might benefit from learning more about the North Carolina Medical Board and medical regulation in general. Knowledge is a gift and we do aim to inform.

So, Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones from myself, our producer, Sylvia French-Hodges, and everyone here at the North Carolina Medical Board.

See you in 2023!
