Speaker 1:

welcome back to the jb sports podcast. Today is thursday, may 23rd, and we are back for another podcast and, as if you've been listening to the podcast for a while now, this is not the usual voice you're hearing when it comes to the intro of the pod, or if you're just now listening in. Usually this is a two-person podcast, but today I'm going solo and there's a lot of reasons behind that. So I'll just kind of get to the. I'll probably get to the point here. So it's been like three weeks since we last recorded and put out a podcast, weeks since we last recorded and put out a podcast. For those like first two weeks we was like more of just like schedules and stuff like that kind of getting a little bit iffy. We have a younger brother that does baseball, so we're helping out a lot with that work, a lot of things going on. So just made a little bit harder for us and not to mention the news stories and stuff just made a little bit harder to kind of get into coming back and just recording a podcast. There's not enough that we felt was necessary. So that was the first two weeks and then last week came and uh, so we did record a podcast. It was like a two-hour podcast that we recorded either on I think it was either friday or saturday of last week and due to my fault, and my fault only I messed up the whole thing. We lost the pod. When it comes to getting into why it happened, it was more of a. It was the program we were on, it like mixed in the program we were on we were making and then a past program, because I wasn't I wasn't paying attention to the fact that we were working on an already made pod. So like when I was trying to come out and like edit it and do that kind of stuff, it then just mixed the two podcasts together and made it like pretty much I wasn't able to fix it in order to get those two separated and like be able to put it out.

Speaker 1:

So and that was like probably the first time it has happened in like this is like two years of us doing this. So it was bound to happen at some point, because I feel like every podcast I've ever heard has had a moment where they're like oh, we lost a pod or something happened. We lost the, the data card or not data card, but like the sd card that has like the podcast on it. Stuff like that always happens with every podcast. So, if so, the way I look at it and way jace told me when we were, when I was so upset as to how it happened, he was like, hey, the fact that it hasn't happened up to now is a big deal, but it was bound to happen at some point. So, again, we've been doing this podcast for long enough and it hasn't happened. So and it happened last week I was very upset. I was two hours worth of podcast. We don't get back. So because of that, I waited a few days because I couldn't bring myself to podcast again after we had already talked about all that kind of stuff. And then Jace has been busy working and doing all this other stuff. So we haven't. We haven't found a spot to really do it together. So it not to mention, I want to kind of uh, maybe not not like say punish myself, but you know it was my mistake.

Speaker 1:

So, to come back, I wanted to talk about a lot of the things that we did talk about in the last pod with a few more things. So here I am doing the podcast now. Hopefully you guys that are listening right now don't hate me too much Been listening for a while. You know it's me and Jace, so if you don't want to listen today, that's more than cool. We'll have Jace back on for the next one and it'll be back to normal. But I just wanted to make sure I got a podcast out today because, uh, it was my mess up, we should have had. It's so bad. So not enough apologizing, I'm gonna get to me rambling on for the next uh hour hour and a half or so. I'm trying to try not to go two hours by myself because I'll be kind of insane for anybody to have to listen to that for too long. So let's get right into things. So, since we have last podcast, pretty much we missed the whole second round. So, and honestly, if everybody's listened for a while, you pretty much know Jace is less into basketball than I am, but we did talk about that stuff in the last pod, like kind of getting into it. But now we're into the conference final.

Speaker 1:

So I just kind of want to give some of my like thoughts for each of the semifinals that had gone on that are now over, kind of give my thoughts on those and just kind of give some type of just a general general things. I don't want to get too in-depth on every on any anything, but I just want to kind of give my two cents on it. Since you know you haven't heard from us for a while. Here we go. First series I wanted to talk about was boston. And what is it boston and calves for, that semi-final series, other than game two, uh, where the calves stole a game in in the garden.

Speaker 1:

Boston took care of business because of the amount of offensive skill they have, other than taste, uh, tatum and brown, along with the defense that the celtics are able to employ because of all of their wings that have length. They have length pretty much everywhere on their court. They didn't have Kristaps Porzingis pretty much for this whole series, but it really didn't matter because of the amount of scoring that they have, the amount of defense that they have, along with the fact that they were facing a Cleveland Cavaliers team that isn't really great at defense themselves. So, and with all the offensive skill that Boston has, all they had to worry about was making sure they outscored the Cavs on a nightly basis. And other than that game two where the Cavs came out and won that game 118-94, they really did manage to do so.

Speaker 1:

Let's see, in the Cavs defense, like I said, it wasn't enough and Donovan Mitchell was like the only constant in this whole series for the Cavs. Offensively, I think Donovan Mitchell averaged like 31 points a game throughout the series. And other other than him Evan Moldy came in he averaged over 21 points a game. But when you have Donovan Mitchell Darius Garland was the is the other guard that they have on their team that didn't really show up in this series as much as you would like, and when you look at it and you look at those guys that didn't really have big series and then you compare that to all the guys that Boston has. You have Tatum, you have Brown. Derek White showed up at a couple big games. Drew Holiday is very good defensively playing at point guard but also giving you some timely points and being able to run the offense as needed. Al Horford came in and averaged almost 10 points a game.

Speaker 1:

The Boston just has so many offensive skill players, and pretty much every night, not to mention the fact they all when it came to three-point shooting. That's what their thing is. All their guys shoot threes and they're going to live and die by that three-point shot and for the most part in this series, they were able to out-shoot the Cavs, and that was the deal, not to mention what Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown have in their way of getting to the basket making plays for their teammates. That was a series, and Boston has pretty much taken care of business in every round as of yet, and they're now into the conference finals and somebody kind of I was watching, I think Colin Cowherd, and why am I forgetting his name now Nick Wright. They do like a weekly thing where they come together and kind of talk basketball and stuff.

Speaker 1:

Now, nick Wright, they do like a weekly thing where they come together and kind of talk basketball and stuff, and Nick Wright kind of had a good point is that, of all the players that are left in this playoff run, where we don't have a LeBron, we don't have a KD, we don't have a Steph Curry, we don't have a lot of the big all-time greats that we all looked at as some of the best players in basketball, they're gone. When it comes to the old guard, now you have these guys left and Jason Tatum is probably the other than him, and probably Luca. They the longest standing young superstars you have in this league, but amongst, like when Tatum well, how do I say this? Right to what? To where? I'm not being, but I'm also getting this point out. This is mostly his point, by the way. I'm only echoing this out, but I think his point was kind of right.

Speaker 1:

If Boston ends up winning a championship, do people really consider Jason Tatum the best player in the world, no matter who they face and all that? Will Jason Tatum be able to make that jump to prefer people like when it comes to perception, right Cause obviously it's all subjective. And when he, when it comes to a lot of like basic basketball watchers out there, usually the player that comes in and plays great in the finals, pete the the next day conversation for when it comes to TV and on YouTube and like everything out there is, is this player that won the championship? Is he the best player in the game now? But I think with a guy like Jason Tatum, is that conversation really going to be had?

Speaker 1:

Because the way Jason Tatum plays, he's not necessarily a high flyer, he's not necessarily a guy that's going to score Like he averaged 26 points a game in this series, but usually he's not making the like highlight plays. Everybody's looking at athleticism like he has good athleticism but it's not elite, so he doesn't really have like the. You know the Jordan plays the Anthony Edwards where they they're dunking on people like that's not necessarily Jason Tatum's game and to a certain extent Jasonum. He's very robotic in the way that he plays. He gets to his spot, he scores and that's pretty much it and he's not necessarily like a deadly shooter in all spots. So there is no superstar factor to him where people look at him and say, wow, right, his game is very robotic and I'm not going to say boring, because he he makes his game look so easy because of how, how advanced he is at it and how like into it, like he is the player he's supposed to be. There's not, he's 25 years old, but it seems like his game has already gotten to where it's going to be.

Speaker 1:

He. He is what he is as a basketball player. It's an. It's an amazing player and I feel like a lot of people would look at him as a top 10 player. But to the point that Colin Cowherd and Nick Wright were making, is that Will Jason Tatum everybody looked at as like a top five player or the number one player in the game In a way that Jokic last year, the way that he had his playoff run to where people were looking at him after that playoff series where they won their championship.

Speaker 1:

Jokic is not only the best big man in the game but he's looked at as the best basketball player in the NBA. So it was a decent ideology to kind of bring up and talk about. So I figured I'd bring it out and talk to you guys and if you agree with me, cool. If not, then I'm an idiot. So I'm more than willing to accept either. Accept it either way, but I figured I'd bring it up and not even Mitchell coming out of this series. I wanted to talk about him just one more time.

Speaker 1:

He was the guy that seemed like he wanted it a lot more than everybody else on his own team and I think to a certain extent when you watch some of these games, it almost felt like the rest of the Cavaliers just kind of knew their fate and they weren't really trying to fight to try to really really change it like obviously, because nobody really thought the Cavs were going to pull off an upset in this series and I feel like if something would have happened, we all would have blamed Boston if Boston managed to lose the series, because Boston is that much better than the Cavaliers. But Boston did their job and the Cavaliers in the way that like it just seemed like every game Donovan Mitchell if it wasn't him coming out and having a Herculean effort, nobody else was going to heck. In that game five, where Boston finished out the Cavs, donovan Mitchell didn't even play and the game was pretty in hand for the most part. The whole game and the news coming out of that game is Donovan Mitchell like doesn't feel like the team matches his want in order to want to go win a championship, championship stuff like that, and I think nobody else can but him can really make that statement Like cause he was there, he's in the locker room, he's on that team and he's the one out there with it, with those guys, and Donovan Mitchell's on another, another platform, when it comes to what his eventual goals are. He's been paid, he's getting paid, he's looked at as some of the one of the better players in the NBA and he wants to have the winning go along with that and he's with a lot of young players, other young players on this on this Cleveland Cavaliers team that may not be on that same wavelength. So when they go up against a Boston Celtics team where, like, a lot of the team knows hey, where a lot of the team knows, hey, we're not going to beat this team, it just shows in their way that they play and Donovan Mitchell seemed like he was the only one that really was there Like, hey, let's change the fate, let's go ahead and do something special here. So if he comes out of this series and going into this offseason saying, hey, I want to get out of here and go to a contending team that I feel like could get me a championship and kind of go on that route, I wouldn't be surprised whatsoever if he wanted to get out of the Cleveland Cavaliers and kind of go somewhere else and make a big jump to try to win a championship, because I don't think this Cleveland Cavaliers team, as presently constructed, is going to be able to able to. All right there, all right then.

Speaker 1:

Next one I want to go to the Pacers and Knicks series. Knicks won I mean sorry, pacers won the series in seven, a very contested series, seems that, even though Jalen Brown played a very good series, averaging close to 30 points a game. The injuries happening to the team throughout the series proved too much against the Pacers so it seemed like every game there was a new injury coming up. Um Hartenstein had a rib injury. You had OG Ananobi that he had an injury he was already dealing with. So he was in and out of this, in and out of the series where he wasn't really playing all that. Even when he wasn't, he wasn't playing all that well.

Speaker 1:

Josh hart had an injury where he was in and out of the series, not in and out, but he played pretty much most of the series. But you can kind of tell by the end he wasn't close to what he want, what he was. And josh hart is kind of like the heart and soul of this team in the way that he does. I'm not going to say he's, because Brunson is the guy that makes the whole team run, but a guy like Josh Hart like I told Jason we were talking about it last week he's kind of like the guy that does all the dirty work, like he's the one averaging the most rebounds for the, for the team, I think, in like one, two, three, like three or four games Josh Hart was like the leading rebounder for the whole game and him as being a I think he's a wing like that's not usually what the job of that is, but he's the one going to get the tough rebounds, making the right play, scoring when necessary, like he's the one that kind of doing all the little things. And when you have a Tom Thibodeau team, you need guys like that, right, and Jalen Brunson being a smaller guard that honestly outplays anything you think he is. I think he's like 5'10, 5'11, something like that. So when you look at Jalen Brunson being like the leading cop for this team offensively and kind of getting everybody in the right spot, not only scoring himself but scoring with his teammates, but then you have a guy like Josh Hart, kind of getting everybody in the right spot, not only scoring himself, but scoring with his teammates. But then you have a guy like Josh Hart kind of doing little things and you have all these players like because the Knicks aren't a superstar led team Like Josh Brunson is why am I saying Jalen Brunson? I said Josh Brunson. Jalen Brunson, sorry, jalen Brunson is a budding superstar.

Speaker 1:

In the way that he played throughout this playoff series and, I think, this whole season. I feel like he's proven that, but outside of him it's a lot of dudes that are here with their lunch pails ready to do the dirty work. And when you have a Tibbs-led team because I know this as being a Bulls fan when Tibbs was the coach for that team he rides his players into the ground Like they all play a bunch of minutes. He doesn't really do the saving guys throughout the regular season, which is why New York Knicks ended up being the number two seed in this playoffs, because they played every night, a night-to-night basis, and everybody played hard, like that was their identity, right. But at the end of the year in the playoffs just like it happened for the Bulls the year in the playoffs, just like it happened for the Bulls every time they made the playoffs, players started getting nicked, hurt, injuries, soft tissue injuries, all that kind of stuff would kind of come back to haunt you as a team because all these players did not get any rest throughout the season. And that's kind of what played out throughout this series for the Knicks and that's why the Pacers were able to outlast them by the end. The Pacers in that game seven. The Pacers won the game 130-109, and I think Jalen Brunson broke his hand in that last game too.

Speaker 1:

So like it just seemed like there was a lot of, and offensively Dante DiVincenzo was a big help for the Knicks. Offensively DiVincenzo was a big help for the Knicks. Offensively DiVincenzo averaged like 22 points a game, so like he was a big help. But outside of DiVincenzo they don't really have a guy that you can just give the ball to say, go get a bucket, because in the playoffs, that is, you need that game.

Speaker 1:

Slow down defenses, like. Kind of like when you play a team, when two teams play each other over a seven game series, you kind of know what each other's tricks are at that point. So offensively and defensively you know what each other's strengths and weaknesses are and that to a certain extent you need to have a guy that you can just give the ball to and just let his star power run the whole thing. And Jalen Brunson is that for that team. But it helps when you have another guy you can kind of give the ball to and decide to kind of say, hey, give Jalen Brunson a few plays off so he can kind of catch his breath a little bit. And they just really don't have that at all for this Knicks team and that's kind of like what they're going to need throughout this offseason.

Speaker 1:

They're going to have to look for another guy, maybe not to the same star power of Brunson, but with the skill set to be able to give the ball to and say, hey, it may be throughout the regular season as well as in the playoffs Like, hey, this might be your game, where you're going to have to initiate the offense a lot and give Jalen Brunson some time off, because that's how you have to quell your superstars throughout the regular season into the playoffs. There has to be other options, because as soon as a team gets locked in on you and say, hey, if Jalen Brunson gets, if we can lock in on him defensively, well, offensively, and say, hey, we're going to try to stop him and make the other guys make plays and you don't have another guy that can really take the ball and do something themselves with it and they all have to be set up somehow. That is where you can kind of fall through as a team and even with the Pacers not necessarily being a great defense team whatsoever they're really not Like. Their defense is kind of one of the worst in the NBA but in a series like this, like you could just focus in on that and you can kind of be a little bit better than you thought you were, well, than you actually are, because of the lack of options the Knicks have in general when it comes to go give the ball. Give the ball to them, go get a bucket type of guys, and that's what I'm saying on that.

Speaker 1:

Um, do I have anything else on that? I really don't. Um, I kind of did peg myself into a corner as the Knicks hater because of our stepdad. He is a big Knicks fan and I kind of, when we were talking to him about it and he was like talking about how much of a hater I am about the Knicks fan and I kind of, when we were talking to him about it, he was like talking about how much of a hater I am about the Knicks and I was. Honestly, I was truly having fun with it because you know me being a Bulls fan Bulls are out of the playoffs. The only we had the 11th pick.

Speaker 1:

There's nothing for me to be positive about for my team in the NBA. So you know, misery loves company and if I'm looking at my stepdad and saying, hey, I'm very happy the New York Knicks aren't playing on in the playoffs like I, I put myself in that spot where I am the hater and I don't think I think I was having fun with it and and I know obviously there's no reason for me to have any type of reason to stand on, for me to hate on them as much as I do, but I did make this kind of uh, this one thought that I had is that are the Knicks the Dallas Cowboys of the NBA? And honestly, when you hear that, maybe somebody says I'm an absolute idiot, which I would totally agree with, but when you think about it, right, every year you feel like maybe not to the same extent, right, because I feel like every year the Dallas, dallas Cowboys fans are like, hey's, we're gonna win the Super Bowl, right, and I don't feel like Knicks fans are coming into every year thinking they're gonna win a championship. I feel like this year was really the highlight year for like the last few years where they've been taking a step by step process. Maybe this was the first year they really saw themselves like potentially getting to the mountaintop at all. But when Knicks fans are, when the Knicks are doing well, everything kind of seems to start revolving around the Knicks, in a way the Dallas Cowboys like. When in the NFL, when things are going well for Dallas Cowboys, it seems like the conversation always kind of goes towards that because of how big of a brand they are and how big of a fan base it is and it's got everything kind of starts going towards that route to For the Knicks for their playoff run.

Speaker 1:

Everybody's really been locked in, not only when it comes to on TV and on YouTube videos talking about this Knicks team, but fan-wise. You can just see everybody coming out the woodwork and saying, hey, this might be the year and so maybe it's a bad comparison. But honestly I see it and I'm like I kind of see some, some similarities within between the two fan bases. Maybe I don't think the Knicks are as close to, as delusional, because I feel like Knicks fans do know basketball. Like I don't feel like Knicks fans are like following the team to a fault and not willing to look at their own weaknesses on their own team. So I don't think the fans are as delusional as like Cowboys fans are for their team. But when it comes to the hype train and the brand and all of that, I do feel like there are a lot of similarities between the two when it comes to all that stuff, other than the fan base. I feel like the fan base for the Knicks is a very smart fan base and they know their basketball and they know what good basketball looks like and even though they can kind of get behind their work, pale guys, and really start appreciating that, they are really good about that, knowing what their team is and, in a way, the Cowboys fans, they're looking for championships all the time and they're very stupid about their team. There's no reasoning you could ever, for the most part for a lot of their fans, not enough reasoning in the world to let them know as to why their team truly isn't one of the best teams in the NFL and not really going to win a championship or Super Bowl, depending on what you want to call it.

Speaker 1:

All right, getting off of that series. Uh oh, by the way, pacer won that game, won that series in seven way. I think I already said that, but I just wanted to make sure I mentioned it. The Pacers are now going to the Eastern Conference Finals to go face, obviously, the Boston Celtics, to where I will just talk about that series now. It's one game in right now and I think Celtics won that first game. Let me make sure I get the point right. Let's see here, come on, they're currently playing game two right now, but Boston's up 42-27. But Boston won the first game. Oh, come on, can I get the score of that first game please? Can I get the score of that first game please? Boston versus Pacers Game one Boston won the first game 133-128. And this was based off of, like the Pacers had a lead going into like the last few seconds of the game and then they let. What is it? Who is it? Um, again, this is a thing for me I always like forgetting names. Jalen Brown, uh, jalen Brown hit a last second three to tie the game up, um, and then send the game to overtime where Boston was able to kind of get up and just never give, never give the uh, the lead back, the lead back to the Pacers. So Boston's already up 1-0 in this series and they're on to game two already, where they have an 11 point um lead in the second quarter.

Speaker 1:

I think a lot of people are expecting the Celtics to win this series pretty handily because of the Pacers' lack of defense and the idea that the Pacers outside of Halliburton. They really don't have a guy you can kind of hand the ball to and hey say, hey, go get a bucket. On top of the lack of defense the Pacers have and on top of the fact that the Celtics just have, do the Celtics have? Let me me see, let me see if they have their guy, if they have. Um, oh yeah, yes, they still don't have Brown Holiday. Okay, so they still don't have. Why am I forgetting? I said his name earlier, kristaps, they just have. You know, they don't have Porzingis back yet and they said at some point he should come back into this series like game four or so. But even still, they just have so many offensive weapons and they just have a great offensive system to kind of get everybody into it. So unless the Celtics really have a really bad game shooting threes or they have a very bad streak in games in a row, I don't necessarily give the Pacers a big chance to win this series, just because of just the lack of defense, for the Pacers and the Celtics are just like a well-oiled machine at this point and I don't think the Pacers have enough guys to stop the Celtics from doing what they want to do.

Speaker 1:

On to the Western Conference side. Let's see here Dallas versus OKC. We'll start with that. So the duo of Donchess and Kyrie, along with PJ Washington being a good three guy, their consistency offensively proved too much for OKC. You got OKC on the OKC side. They have a lot to be proud of throughout not only this season but the series in general.

Speaker 1:

I do feel like they played a very good series with the Dallas Mavericks. It really was a highly contested one where it was really back and forth. I think there was only one real big blowout throughout this whole series. It was game one where the thunder beat the mavs 117 to 95. But practically every other game in this series with less was less than a 10 point game by the time the game was over. And I think, like I said, with donchich and kairi, it felt like they just had two guys in there on their team where they can like.

Speaker 1:

I feel like Luka. He averaged 24 points throughout the series. You have PJ Washington averaging 17 games points per game. Kyrie Irving averaging 15. But Kyrie, even though he didn't really have a great series in general, there were points where Kyrie was really able to initiate the offense and kind of keep them afloat, while Luka wasn't necessarily being as great Because Luka has been dealing with an injury I think it was like a calf injury throughout this series, so he hasn't really looked his best throughout that whole series in general.

Speaker 1:

But it just felt like they just have too many offensive weapons you can kind of look to to kind of get some points, and on the other side you have OKC where Shea was the only guy offensively that was really consistent for them. I think Shea averaged like 32 points a game throughout the series. But then you have Jalen Williams averaging 17, chet Holmgren 15, lou Dort averaging another 10. But you have guys like Josh Giddey averaging only 6 points a game, like the other, jalen Williams only averaging five. So it seemed like OKC had a lack of like a lot.

Speaker 1:

With the Knicks it looks like they need another offensive playmaker. You can kind of hand the ball off to and help initiate offense in a way that Shea does, to not only help him out throughout the season but in a series. It keeps you from being able to key in on one guy and say, hey, we're going to, or just let Shea get into a game and kind of score. You have two ways to go about it. You can either say, if you're a Dallas team, say hey, we're going to let Shea get his, but make sure nobody else does, which is kind of like how this series kind of worked out or you can lock in on one guy and say, hey, we're going to stop him and make the rest of the team beat us. It looked like throughout watching this I watched a few games of this series that and I did watch clips of the rest that Dallas was like, hey, we're going to let Shea get his and make everybody else to, kind of like, because obviously a 1v5 game, the five are usually going to win, right. So Shea got his average, like I said, averaging over 32.

Speaker 1:

But the rest of the team was just not consistent offensively and then defensively they're not the strongest team and, uh, for the most part and especially when you're facing Kyrie and Luca and PJ Washington, they just have so much offensive firepower that you're not going to be able to stop them from doing what they want to do if they really get into playing their offense and it's not like Dallas has a great offense, it was just more of like they're relying on the superstars of Luca and Kyrie to do their thing and they just keep doing it, man, and as consistent as they are and as with so much skill, especially with Kyrie and Luka, it's just a very hard job if you're going to want to try to stop them on a night-at-night-out basis. And Dallas was and honestly Dallas is a little bit more veteran team, like they have a lot more. Luka's been doing it for a while, kyrie obviously has been doing it for a while. He's won a championship before and then you're facing a very young OKC team with Shea, gilders, alexander, like this is like one of the youngest teams in the NBA. So, and not to mention with all the first-round picks that they have and like all the picks, and so they can really make upgrades to this team without necessarily giving up too much. They have enough in picks to practically get anybody if players become available and they have a lot of money on their books. So like they have an opportunity to get better in this offseason and kind of make a huge comeback coming into next year. But they do need an offensive piece to really help out Shea. Especially in a series like this where, like you're facing a Luka and Kyrie team, you need to have some more consistent guys offensively that can come in and really handle the ball and really help initiate offense.

Speaker 1:

Because other than that, okc is a very, very good team. They were the number one. I think they're the number one overall seed for a reason because of how great they were throughout the whole season and they didn't necessarily play young, they didn't, like they weren't shy of the big moments, like they really did come to play and they were competitive and like there was enough, like it was two very good teams playing each other and one team won, the other didn't. It was nothing like OKC didn't show up. They came, they came to play, shea did his thing as the leader of their team. But they just need a little bit more help if they're going to manage to get through all the Western Conference, to get to not only a Western Conference final but even an an NBA try to get to the finals. So they're going to have some things they're going to need to do to fix things to go into next season, but they should be very proud about the way that they played throughout this series.

Speaker 1:

Dallas is going on to the next round to play against the Minnesota team, where I will give Kyrie and Luka this credit is that Luka was hurt throughout the series, didn't really have the greatest series out there, like he like he had some of his more, he had some of his like patented game. He like in game five he had 31, but like for the most part, like you could tell, like he is hurt, like there he does have an issue. It's not keeping him off the court, he's still out there, he's playing gritty and he's out there doing whatever he can to try to help his team win. But he is not necessarily the same Luka that we all know that he can be when he's fully healthy. And, not to mention, luka is not necessarily the most athletic. He's a big human being. He's very tall, he has some weight to him, he's able to do a lot, but he's not necessarily a high flyer by any means. So when you have an injury it kind of just brings it down a little bit more and he seems like he's laboring a little bit more to do what he wants to do. So, like the fact that they were able, he was able to play as tough as he did and kind of keep this team going throughout this series and hopefully he can stay healthy throughout the next series and kind of do his thing.

Speaker 1:

But you but you just have Kyrie, too, coming in to help and you had, uh, pj Washington coming in and doing well, and not to mention with their centers, uh, derek Lively. And who's the other center for them? Derek Lively and Derek uh and Daniel Gafford. They were all too, derek Lively and Daniel Gafford being their centers, kind of clogging up the paint and keeping the paint from getting slashed too much. So their team is a very veteran team. They have a lot of offense, obviously, with Luka and Kyrie, but they also have defensive players with their centers, with Derek Jones Jr being another guy that can really play some good defense, and you have a lot of pieces in this team that plays very good basketball together and they have a pretty well-constructed team for the most part. In comparison to what they looked like last year, they are a lot different and they have played a lot different, and that's why they're in the Western Conference Finals now.

Speaker 1:

Last but not least, you have Denver Minnesota. That series was won by the Minnesota Timberwolves in seven games and it seemed like other than games three through five, where Donchish was really no, sorry, not Donchish Nikola Jokic was able to really come out and like assert himself offensively and he kind of had his vintage Luka games Heck, in game five he went for like 40 points and like let me see what that. Let's see. I want to make sure I get his stat line right because Luka had a I mean not Luka, I keep man, nicola Jokic I'm sorry guys, nicola Jokic did have an amazing game, that game five, where he Let me make sure I got this here Jokic had 40 points, 13 assists and 7 rebounds Sorry, 14 rebounds. So he almost had a triple-double. Like not 14 rebounds, he had 7 rebounds, so he almost had a triple double. Like not 14 rebounds, he had seven rebounds, so like he almost had a triple double with 40 points. So like he through games three through five he had, he went back to like really being assertive offensively and then outside of that, like outside of three through five, minnesota's defense and their length defensively with their two bigs, obviously Carl Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert was really able to.

Speaker 1:

They weren't able to stop Luka. I mean not, I keep saying Luka, dang it. They were not able to stop. Why do I do this? Uh, they weren't able to stop Jokic by any means. One-on-one like, and honestly it's even worse with why I keep forgetting names here I suck Carl Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert. Sorry, my bad, I'm having a freaking brain aneurysm here. Carlini Towns and Rudy Gobert were not able to stop Luka Doncic. I mean not, I did it again. That sucks. They were not able to stop. Oh, they were not able to stop Nikola Jokic on a nightly basis. So, like offensively when Jokic, when Jokic was really asserting himself, it was very hard for them to stop him. But outside of him Jamal Murray had an awful series for the most part, like he wasn't really consistent offensively and then the other guys on their team were not able to get past the defense of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Let me make sure. Let's see Denver. I accidentally deleted the tab I was looking at to kind of give you the stats for this series. So for Denver you had.

Speaker 1:

Jokic was able to do a lot in this series. He averaged 29 points. Jamal Murray averaged 18. Aaron Gordon averaged 14. Michael Porter Jr averaged 10. Caldwell Pope averaged 7. Like they did not have a lot of offense. Their offense was not really able to stay consistent enough around Nikola Jokic to kind of keep them into this series, other than those games three through five. I think it was partially because of their own like just they were so hot throughout the first series of the when they were again playing against Lakers in the in the first series, like they were so hot around Nicole Jokic, but in that second series they kind of cooled off. But also you have to give a lot of credit to the Minnesota Timberwolves that games one and two and then five and seven, five, five and seven I mean six and seven they really were able to dominate the Denver Nuggets with their defense and not only that, with Anthony Edwards with his star power throughout this series he averaged 27 throughout the whole series, five rebounds, five assists. He averaged over a steal. So Anthony Edwards was able to really assert himself, not only for his team.

Speaker 1:

But honestly he's kind of making a case where he might be the next great American basketball player. And honestly, for a while now that the NBA seemed other than LeBron James. But for the last three or four years now, nobody's really talking about LeBron James being the best player in the NBA, right? Because? Because obviously his age and all that Injuries, like obviously as he gets older I think LeBron's 38 years old now, so nobody's going to look at LeBron and say he's the best player. He's still a top 10 player because of how great he is, but, like, when it comes to being the best player, you're talking about Jokic. You're talking about Jokic just been like the guy for the last few years where he's looking at as the best guy in basketball. And then you have before him you had Giannis and before him you had what was I talking about here? Hmm, I've. Why am I forgetting who was kind of like the guy before that? Yeah, I forget, it doesn't really matter.

Speaker 1:

But when it comes to the best American basketball player and you're looking at the future of the sport, people would be talking about John Morant, people would be talking about Jason Tatum, but it doesn't seem like there's been really been a guy to really take that mantle and really take the next step and really assert themselves to be that guy. And it seems like throughout this playoffs, playoffs, anthony Edwards is really trying to make that case for himself and the way that he played throughout this series, like he really did show that he not only has the athleticism to be a high flyer and kind of like the way that American basketball players like really have a certain like when you see an American born basketball player. It seems like they have the athleticism to like be a high flyer. They have and, not to mention with today's game, you have to be a good shooter. You have to be pretty good offensively, defensively kind of be iffy, but when it comes to that like offense is like really where it comes to you being looked at as that great player and I think Anthony Edwards is like has, and he has charisma too.

Speaker 1:

He has charisma out the wazoo, like when you watch him play you could. He just oozes the confidence that he plays with and as well he's talking trash on the court and off the court, like when you get him into a doing interviews and stuff like that. He's not afraid to say what he needs to say, what he wants to say, even if it's talking trash like he looks like he has everything necessary to become that next great American born basketball player. He's only 22 years old, so like he's still a young player that's not even getting into his prime yet. So he's like making his case where he might he might be that next guy and when you had a guy like John Morant before and like Zion Williamson was looked at potentially to be that guy and for whatever reason for different reasons for each of them they weren't able to take on that mantle. Maybe they might at some point, but up to now they still haven't right. But it looks like with Anthony Edwards, like throughout this series and throughout this playoffs and throughout this whole season he's been playing very good basketball and it seems like in the playoffs he's upped his level of play and if he keeps going on that trajectory, I feel like he'll be ready to take on that throne. Um, but he has to keep going and keep doing his thing and if he ends up winning a championship this year, I feel like the conversation will be had. But they now have to face a. Why am I going crazy here? They now have to face a. What? Why oh sorry Dallas team that you have Luca Donchage as being like one to be one of the best players in the NBA and he's not obviously not American born, so like. So yes, back to the main point here.

Speaker 1:

Minnesota did their thing. They were able to keep Denver from being able to do what they wanted offensively and then defensively. Denver has really taken a step back in comparison to last year. Denver wasn't necessarily a great defense last year when they won the championship. But they were able to raise their play enough to kind of, with that elite offense that they had, were able to go ahead and win the championship. But against the Minnesota Timberwolves team their defense wasn't all that great and offensively, when they were being stopped by the Minnesota Timberwolves and they weren't able to do what they usually do offensively, they seemed like they were helpless, other than Luca uh sorry, not Luca, but other than Jokic, nicola Jokic. He nobody else offensively was really able to do their thing, especially Jamal Murray. Like you could tell, he's been dealing with an injury throughout this whole playoffs with the calf, but other than that, like he just wasn't able to really assert himself in this series in the way that he was against the Lakers where he hit two game winners and, heck, even in that series he wasn't necessarily the vintage Jamal Murray, we all know so. And not to mention, like with that, with those two guys being the main guys offensively, no-transcript that it wasn't. Again, it's very hard to go back and back to back. So I'm not going to necessarily say Denver played a terrible series, but they just played against a team that was able to match their length and um and physicality. And when it comes to their freaking, uh, their athleticism, I feel like overwhelmed the Denver Nuggets in general. So that's enough of me rambling on that series, and then let's go ahead and go and talk a little bit about where they're at now. So the Mavericks and Timberwolves are into game two. They haven't. I think they play tomorrow.

Speaker 1:

Dallas already won that first game. Let me see here Dallas won the first game 108 to 105 and behind Luka Doncic scoring 30. Doncic had 33 points. Let me see, let's get to the box score here. In that first game, doncic had 33 points, eight assists, six rebounds, three steals, a block. Doncic was really able to do his thing offensivelyly. Kyrie also came to play. He had 30 points himself, along with four assists and five rebounds. So like those two guys offensively like really came to play in that first game against Minnesota and I feel like maybe the difference in the series is that Minnesota only has one guard, like one guy that can, truly you can, look at in.

Speaker 1:

Why am I forgetting his name now, jayden McDaniels. He's like their main defensive guy. He's usually the guy you're going to put on the other team's best offensive player to go play defense and try to do his thing. But the problem is that Dallas has two of those guys. Right, dallas has Luca and he had. They have Kyrie. So if you're gonna put Jaden McDaniels on, let's just say Luca. That means you're gonna have Anthony Edwards on Kyrie Irving.

Speaker 1:

And as great as Anthony Edwards is offensively, defensively he's like he's play with effort, because I feel like in that Game 7 of last series he was not necessarily offensively playing his best ball, but he was able to assert himself a little bit more defensively with his athleticism and length. But when you're playing a guy like Kyrie who is so skilled and knows what he wants to do offensively, so much Anthony Edwards is not going to be able to stop Kyrie from doing what he wants to do. And if you have, and if you have Anthony Edwards like using so much energy to try to guard Kyrie on the defensive end, how much is he going to have offensively to try to do that? And if he does try to put more energy offensively, he'll have less energy defensively to go guard a guy like Kyrie. So like it's a double-edged sword, like no matter which side you pick, you're going to get hurt by the other because you have these players having to play both sides of the court and when you have two guys in Dallas that are just so potent offensively, along with PJ Washington also coming in and playing so well offensively, they just have so many options. And not to mention with the way that Dallas likes to play, they like to do a lot of pick and roll, which leads to a lot of switches, which means they're really hunting for matchups, especially with Kyrie and Luka. They just hunt for their matchups and they eat and they go crazy.

Speaker 1:

And in that first game that's really what they did and Minnesota wasn't able to do it Like they weren and Minnesota wasn't able to do it. They weren't able to play confidently defensively because they're always switching in. They don't really have a set defense. They're able to stick with because of what Dallas does offensively. And when you have those two guys, luka and Kyrie, doing their thing, it's just really hard for any team to kind of be set defensively.

Speaker 1:

So if I had to pick, I'm probably going to pick Dallas to win this series. But again, it's a seven-game series. I do feel like it's probably going to go six or seven, but I do feel like Dallas is going to win, and then Minnesota as much as Anthony Edwards is amazing. Can you rely on Gobert and Cat to kind of do everything, do what they need to do on a night-in-night-out basis? I don't necessarily think I'm not going to be able to say that without really thinking about it here, because they have had times where they really have not played all that well. Last series, not not to mention like not last series, they did very well, and cat especially. In that game seven came to play and he was very good offensively, but go bear, he can get played off the court really fast. So like if he's not able to give you a lot offensively and then defensively not being effective, he kind of just takes up a lot of space and he's not really helping. And not to mention with go bear I mean luca and kairi looking for likeups. Like if you're not doing a lot offensively and then defensively you're not doing any. You're not as good as what Gobert usually is. It's going to be harder for the Minnesota to really win this series. So I think Dallas is probably going to win this series. I'm not going to say handily, because I do feel like it could be close, but that's who I'd put my money on if I was putting money down and that's all I got on that.

Speaker 1:

All right, I'm done with, uh, the NBA. Now it's been long enough. I know I've been rambling on. I what is it? 46 minutes? That's crazy. So I've been going on for a while on NBA. Let's go ahead and go about. Go on to something I know a lot more about.

Speaker 1:

Um, I want to talk about the College Football 25. So since we last recorded, there's been some pretty relevant news come out about the game. Let me get College Football 25. Not only has the covers been released as to the different versions of the game, but they also have released a trailer and they've also released like some of like the game modes that you're going to be looking, looking for when you're playing.

Speaker 1:

So let's talk about the madden cover. I mean not madden. So the couch ball 25 covers first. So there's going to be two versions of the game. You have the standard edition, which is going to be like 70 bucks, and you're going to have the deluxe edition, that's going to be 100, right, and there's two different covers for such games. For the standard edition, that cover has is featuring Quinn Ewers, the quarterback from Texas. Donovan Edwards, the running back from Michigan, who won the Niles championship last year. It sucks, it really makes me sick to say. And then you have Travis Hunter, the corner slash wide receiver from Colorado, who's looked at as one of the better all-around players throughout college football, even though he was playing on a four-win team last year in Deion Sanders, colorado Buffaloes. So those are the three guys that were like featured on the standard edition cover.

Speaker 1:

On the deluxe edition it has a lot more players on there. You have those three obviously being in the forefront. Then you have quinshawn judkins, for the transfer that went to, that went over to ohio state, the running back, he's featured. Carson beck, the quarterback for georgia's featured. Jaylen milrell, the quarterback from alabama, is featured. And then you have. Then you have a few helmets you can kind of see. You can see a Notre Dame player, you can see an Oregon player, you can see some other different helmets throughout the. It's like a whole thing. You can probably look it up and see.

Speaker 1:

But this is this is kind of like what my main point wanted to be Right, is there a lack of star power coming into this year's college football? Like right, because you can't go with like a. Maybe college world 25 could have had the. Hey, let's put a legend on the thing, but I do feel like they have been trying to market the fact that obviously they're going to be able to have players actually in the game now. So they've really been trying to market that idea is like, hey, you can actually play with your current team's players and you'll have their names, you'll have their actual stats and all that, you'll have their ratings, like. So they're really trying to market that. So you have to have current players in order to really drive home that fact and that's what they what they kind went with. But, like, when you look at those three, right, we'll just talk about the main three that we're talking about here.

Speaker 1:

Quinn Ewers a great quarterback. He had a lot of hype going into like when he was a high schooler. He was the first like perfect college football recruit coming out of high school. That has ever been done for most of the recruiting services if you follow high school football at all. He had the crazy arm, he had the mullet. Coming out of Texas, he ended up going to Ohio State transferring, only being there for a year realizing he wasn't going to take the job over. Cj Stroud while he was there, transferring to Texas, and then he's been there for the past two years playing good football. He's not necessarily lived up to the billing of being like the best player in college football but he's been playing very well, like last two years ago when his first season at Texas he was injured. I feel he got hurt halfway through the season and really didn't get to play all that much after that. Then last year he played well, got them to the costwell playoff. Lost against michigan, no, michigan, no. They lost against washington in that first round of the costwell playoff. So like he got them where he got them farther they had ever been in the playoff era. But quinn ewers doesn't really have like a wow type, like he can make some wow throws, but like it just seemed like he's not necessarily fit the billing when it comes to being a superstar in college football and like really having that star power.

Speaker 1:

Right, donovan Edwards being the running back for Michigan yes, he had some big moments, but like he wasn't looked at as the best running back on this Michigan team. It was Blake Corham who's the better running back. But guess what? Blake Corham has went off to the NFL and he's now doing thing there. Coming into his first season. He just got drafted. So when you have a guy that you need to have for Michigan because obviously they have to be represented they just won the championship, so you're going to have, like, who else are you going to pick? Right, their quarterback is gone and JJ McCarthy, he's been drafted. So, like, who else are you going to pick for this Michigan team? Pick for this Michigan team?

Speaker 1:

Donovan Edwards was the probably the only option, but yet he doesn't necessarily have the start. He's going to be the number one running back for this team coming into the next college football season, but does he have that start? At least he looked at as like one of the best players in college football. No, not the case at all. And then Travis Hunter is the probably the closest to that like. He was a great player playing both offensively and defensively, playing wide receiver and corner. Like he's looked at as probably the one of the best athlete probably in college football, but he's played for a four-win Colorado team last year. So like, yes, as great of a player as he was, his team doesn't have the nestle of the success that they're going to be on the big stage. I guess Colorado was on the big stages last year because of the Dion effect, but like, when it came to on field success, travis Hunter got hurt in the middle of the season so he missed a few games. So, like, he is probably the closest to that, but I think his team success may keep him from like, really being like on the forefront in a way that other superstar players would be so like, so like.

Speaker 1:

My main point is that if you would have had this game last year like if you they'd have been releasing it before last season right, you would have had a Marvin Harrison Jr. You would have had a Caleb Williams, you would have had a why am I forgetting other names? You would have had a, uh, michael Penick Jr you would have had. You would have had a lot more players, I feel like, with a lot more star power to really market the game behind. But it feels like this year it's definitely not as strong and I feel like it's kind of it's an iffy thing and I feel like it's more of a main question based off of going into this college football season, the fact that Ohio State we're probably going to start a Kyle McCord being gone. He was our starter last year. You have. Why am I forgetting his name now?

Speaker 1:

Oh no, at quarterback, ohio State doesn't necessarily have a superstar guy coming in and being ready to take the spot, right? We have the fifth-year champs for out of K-State QB. I forget his name all the time. It just kind of sucks how I do things here. Let's see here Will Howard. He was the guy that transferred in from K-State. We have Devin Brown, who was the guy that's been sitting at Ohio State for a minute. He's still battling for the job. We don't know who's going to be the starter Lincoln Keenholds, aaron Noland and then the last guy I forget the other freshman quarterback. It doesn't really matter, but there really is no. Like we have a couple star players on Ohio State, but they're not necessarily looked at as like they're not household names yet, right? Judkins being the guy he's a transfer coming in from Ole Miss. So like the fact that he's the guy that was picked like he's not necessarily a superstar yet, right? So I just feel like, in general, I feel like coming into this football season, it may not be, there's not a lot of star power going in.

Speaker 1:

I feel like I've spent way too long trying to talk about this, but I just it was kind of a thought I had. So let's get past that. Let's go into the game modes here. I just want to talk about that real quick. Oh, the the um prices for the game, if you, if you care at all, cause I really do I'm very excited about this game. Jace is very excited for this game.

Speaker 1:

I feel like college ball fans in general, cause I feel like we haven't had a game since 2011 was the last college ball game that we had and I the idea that most like college ball fans are a lot more diehard with their teams and NFL fans are. So the idea that you get to have a game where you get to play with not only your team, you get to do like, get to play with your team, with your players, your current players, past players, all of that I feel like there's a different level of intensity that you can have because you love like there's a lot more love when it comes to people loving their college football teams. Right, in a way, the NFL you can love. There's a lot of people that love their NFL teams, but it's not the same type of thing because you don't necessarily have the tradition. The players are a little bit different. I feel like there's a lot more love. It's a lot more deep-seated love between a fan and their school than there is a between a fan and their NFL team to like to a certain extent. I don't know how to necessarily say it, but I just feel like when I watch, the passion and love for college football is a little bit different than NFL. I don't know if that's a hot take or not, but I just feel like if you, if you are into both and you kind of watch both at all, I feel like that is an easy thing that you can kind of talk about and it seems like that kind of comes to the screen or when you're at a game, I feel like that's just a lot more. It's just it's very apparent. I feel like, if you want, if you watch it at all, all right, let's talk about the game mode.

Speaker 1:

So, oh, price first standard edition 70 bucks. The deluxe edition is 100 bucks. I feel like with the deluxe edition we'll come with a bunch of extra stuff. There is going to be like an ultimate team style on for this college football game. It's going to be called hold on college football, ultimate team. So there's going to be an ultimate like a madden team, madden ultimate team type of game mode for this college football game. I feel like a lot of people aren't going to be as into that in comparison to like dynasty and road to glory. But it is going to kind of give you kind of scratch the ditch, playing cards, stuff like that. But it is going to be an ultimate team style of thing. If you, that's your, that's your forte.

Speaker 1:

But I feel like a lot more college well fans are kind of into the other two modes. So dynasty mode, which is going to be like the most used mode of all, so like you create a coach, build a powerhouse, cost wall program from the ground up. You can recruit, you can use a transfer portal, all of that, like you can really get into all of it. You can pick your own team. You can kind of pick a low lead, a low team that like really doesn't have a lot as of right now, but you try to build them up to be a dynasty. This is the mode that the most college football fans are really going to get into when they start playing this game, me included. Me and Jason included. Not only will I play with my obviously Ohio State, but I may pick a SMU team or a smaller football program to try to build them up to be that team, not only with recruiting but with the trans portal and all that. So it does give you a lot of opportunities to kind of like really get into it and like really like this. That's the big game mode that everybody's gonna be into.

Speaker 1:

Road to Glory you have, like you can pick pretty much your my player type of thing, where you can pick a player, a certain position and then kind of get recruited out of high school, go to a college and then you can kind of like play your one play Not playing like the whole game right. So you're like being that one player at a position. You're trying to like build your way up throughout your college years to get drafted and all that. So that is the road to glory mode where you can kind of it's kind of like a my player for an NBA, if you're trying to look for a comparison so you can pick your player, go through the process and then try to be on the college football team, kind of work your way up from being a lowly freshman or you can be a star freshman coming out to them being getting into your three years, three to four years and then you can get drafted. So like that's. Like that's the other game that people are going to be really into already mentioned, the college football ultimate team.

Speaker 1:

And then there is another mode called road to the college football playoff, which is, they say, is experience a new way to play competitively and represent your favorite team to the. In the road to the college football playoff, climb the pole, upsetting the toughest opponents, make, make it to the playoff and vie for the national championship, which is that's the one you kind of don't know. You don't really know too much about, but you know, I feel like, with those game modes, along with being able to, you know, just play online, play with the team against somebody else online, which is also going to be a very big thing Pick a team, go play. I feel like that's all. Like I feel like there's a lot of things you're going to be able to do on this game. So I am very excited. If you are into Cosmo Ball at all, I feel like this is going to be a very big thing for everybody.

Speaker 1:

But let me see Anything else. I got on that. That's about it. I got on the college football 25 game. Oh, the game is out. Let me make sure I mention that before we finish off with that one. The game's out, I believe, july 19th. Let me see here. Let me make sure I get the date right. Let's see here. Yeah, july 19th is going to be the the release of the game. So hopefully, if you're into it, you'll be able to go out and get the game, be able to play it just like everybody else will, because I know I will be playing that game a whole heck of a lot heck that game is. So if that game is good enough and it like gives me everything I want, I won't even need to play Madden, like I like I told Jason we were talking about a couple of days ago, was that like hey, if this cost of all game is everything I want it to be, I'll just play that game for a long time and then just buy Madden when it's on sale six months from now because of how my cost is. Like that game is going to be so amazing and as long as it promises everything, I think it will. I think I'll be definitely into that and Madden will kind of take a backseat. So if you're into it, hopefully you buy it and have fun with it. Hopefully we'll play each other online somehow, all right.

Speaker 1:

Next thing I wanted to talk about was NFL schedules. The NFL schedule we released last week. I think it was like Wednesday or Thursday of last week. We talked about it on the podcast, we talked about a lot of it, but again it got all deleted and all that. I'm so very sorry about that. So I'm not going to go through everything. I just kind of want to go through some of the hardest schedules in the NFL and then make my case about my team, which is why I'm a little bit more upset than usual about all of it. So the toughest schedules in the NFL for the next, this upcoming season the Browns are number one. This is all based off of winning percentage of the lap before of the year before. So this is how they're kind of ranking them Browns are number one, ravens are two, steelers are three, packers and Texans are tied at four, bills Giants are tied at six, patriots and Raiders and Jags are all tied at eight. So that's pretty much the top ten. So, with all of that being the case, you have the three AFC North teams kind of having the toughest schedules and then you kind of get to the rest of them. Honestly, we talked about the Bengals in the last pod, but I'm gonna leave that when Jace comes back so we can talk about that. We kind of go through the schedule and be like kind of like win, loss and all that. We'll leave that for when he comes back.

Speaker 1:

But I want to talk about my schedule in particular, because it's just me here so I could talk about whatever I want without Jace coming in and yelling at me. So my team, my Steelers, got absolutely hosed when it came to this schedule right. And I think my bigger gripe is probably the last six weeks of the season One, two, three, four, five and six. Actually last eight weeks of the season. They're kind of like the worst part of this whole thing. Like this is like pretty much after after week 10, like week 11 through week 18, we absolutely get hosed in our schedule week by week after week after week. So let me kind of give you the whole schedule here.

Speaker 1:

So week one, we got going to Atlanta. Week two, we got Denver. That's going to Denver. Week three, we got the Chargers coming to town. Week four, we go to Indianapolis. Week five, we got Dallas coming here. Well, coming to Pittsburgh. You go to the Raiders, you go Jets come to Pittsburgh. Giants come to Pittsburgh in week eight. Week nine by, which isn't too bad, pretty much right in the middle of the season. But after this week nine by, we have at Washington Commanders, which isn't too bad. But this is where the bad part starts. This is what makes me very angry in the way that our schedule has been set up. Week 11, baltimore Ravens Cool, in our own division.

Speaker 1:

We can't control that, but again, that's a team we have to face and they're one of the better teams in the NFL. Week 12, at Cleveland Browns Okay, fine, in our division, and all that get it. Week 13, at Cincinnati Bengals so that's three division games in a row. Two of them are away from home. That's crazy, and that's only the start of it. Week 14 Browns we have to play them right, like so. Literally four weeks in a row we are playing our own division that already knows each other and it's all that. It's very tough to play that many weeks in a row playing the teams that know you the best, so there really is no reprieve at all. Not to mention, heck, baltimore and Cincinnati are definitely better than us at this point. So you're dealing with those teams, and then the Browns are always the tough out, especially with that defense, so that sucks.

Speaker 1:

Then week 15, philadelphia Okay, cool, that's not great. Week 16, baltimore Cool. Week 17, kansas City Chiefs on Christmas. We had to play the Chiefs on Christmas on a Wednesday after playing Sorry, google wants to get into the thing here. So week 17, on Christmas, we had to play Kansas City Chiefs. They at least come into Pittsburgh. But again, that's another team that we're going to have to face, and this is the seventh week in a row, after all the tough games we've already had. After our bye. And then week 18, we have to finish with the Bengals going, going, they're coming to Pittsburgh.

Speaker 1:

So, like, the last eight weeks of the schedule that we have are an absolute gauntlet, in a way that I'm just like the whoever's making the schedule. Man, they must hate the Steelers or something, man, because, like I get it. We won 10 games last year, so we're not going to have an easy schedule by any means. But the fact that I'm not necessarily mad about the schedule, like, obviously we have a lot of hard teams, right, but I just feel like we just get hosed the last eight weeks of the season. Man, I feel like if they could have spread out the schedule just a little bit to kind of give us some reprieve somewhere. Man, it's just kind of. It's awful the way that we've kind of been set up here, and when we recorded the podcast last week that got deleted, as I already mentioned, we kind of did a win-loss thing where I kind of went through and I'm like let's see, let's just go ahead and write this down here.

Speaker 1:

Week one I had Falcons. I have a win right. Who knows how Kirk is doing, who he's fully healthy, and all that. And I feel like we're just week one. I feel like the Steelers are at their best. They're the most healthy. I feel like that's a win there. Broncos we have we're going to end up playing Russell Wilson's former team Going to Denver. They've got rid of a lot of pieces this last offseason. So Denver, especially early on, are not going to be in a good spot. So that's two wins, cool.

Speaker 1:

Week three Chargers. Chargers are going to be going through a lot of changes, especially defensively. They lost a lot of people. I feel like, especially early on, we should be able to beat the Chargers, especially them coming to our house, chargers barely have fans come to their own games, let alone when they're traveling somewhere else. So we're definitely going to be able to control the environment, especially in Pittsburgh against the Chargers team At Colts. I feel like that's a tough game going to Indianapolis, especially if they have Anthony Richardson, who knows how he's going to be looking in his second year coming off the injury. But again, I just feel like we should get that win. That's four wins, right. Dallas Cowboys that one's always a tough one. I feel like we could easily win that game, but I also feel like we could easily lose. They are coming to Pittsburgh, so I'm going to give them the win there. That's five wins. Raiders that's six wins.

Speaker 1:

Jets week seven I feel like we lose that game just because, as long as they have Aaron Rodgers, they should be a little bit better and they should beat us because Aaron Rodgers just knows how to play good football Well, who knows how he looks coming off the torn Achilles. So if I had to get man and that Jets defense is already pretty good I just feel like the Jets defense is going to be enough to where they're going to be enough to beat us that way. So, as of. Right now, going through the schedule, I'm being six and one. Obviously there could be two more losses on that, so we could be six and one. Five to like four and three. That's like kind of like what we're looking at.

Speaker 1:

Week eight giants cool, that should be a win. Giants will be one of the worst teams in the nfl this upcoming season. I have no doubt about that. Week 9 bye cool. Week 10, washington Commanders Cool, we should get that win. That's 8 wins. At least best case scenario that should be 8 wins and 1 loss.

Speaker 1:

And then we have Baltimore. This starts the gauntlet I was talking about before Baltimore. Come to our house, we're going to split with them. So I feel like we should win that game at home. At Cleveland, we're going to lose just because we always split that series with them. We could end up beating them 2-0, but again, I'm not going to necessarily believe that, especially if we're playing at their house. Their defense is always very good. I'll say we lose that game.

Speaker 1:

At Cincinnati, bengals are going to lose that game. That's no doubt. We always split with the Bengals. Cleveland Browns I'll give us a win there. That puts it at 10-3. At Eagles is an L, At Baltimore is an L, kansas City, that's another L and at Cincinnati I'll give us a win there.

Speaker 1:

But again, there's no guarantee. But usually if they're coming to us, especially at the end of the season, I feel like the Bengals could already have the division in hand, which could definitely help my team get that win. But again, it just depends on how it goes. So this is my best case scenario we are 11-6. But do I think that's gonna actually happen? I don't think so. I feel like we also have to figure out what the off, what the uh quarterback situation is going to be, let alone what the offense is going to be. I feel like if our defense stays healthy we're good. But again it's just like best case scenario is 11 and 6. But again, with that gauntlet of the last eight weeks of the season, I just feel like it can get off the rails really fast and we could easily be a 9-8 win team and have a whole bunch of losses on our record. So I just feel like that last eight weeks of the season is a huge gauntlet that I feel like not a lot of teams have to go through. So that part is the part I'm a little upset about for the most part.

Speaker 1:

But you know, when Jace comes back later on this week or early next week, we'll talk about his schedule and how he feels about it, and I'll give you a little hint here. He does. He feels very good about his schedule. His team is, like, I think, the Bengals like outside the top 10. The Bengalsals have the 16th-ranked schedule based on record from last year. So he is feeling a lot better about his team and their schedule than I am feeling about mine. All right, we'll get off the schedules here. Stop me rambling about that.

Speaker 1:

And then I want to talk about Jared Goff. He got paid his money. He got his contract. It was a four-year $212 million contract with a $73 million signing bonus. It's $170 million guaranteed with an average salary of $53 million per year. But if you're doing it just based off of pure guaranteed money, you're looking at a little over $40 million a year of fully guaranteed money, because you know how NFL contracts are done like all of it's guaranteed and all that, but yet they still count it towards the average the average per year. But when it comes to actually fully guaranteed money, it's an average of a little over 40 million dollars a year for a guy of Jared Goff's stature, that's a very good contract for him.

Speaker 1:

I feel like they were the den. The Detroit Lions were in a spot where they weren't going to not pay him right. They got to the NFC Championship game last year. Yeah, they got to the NFC Championship game last year, lost against San Fran. There really is no shame in that. But with the way Jared Goff played, he played very well for them. It feels like his mentality matches the city. It feels like the fans have kind of like really locked in to for to Jared Goff being their guy and he played very well last year and throughout the whole season, was the leader of that team, played very well, was able to make big throws for that Detroit Lions team and it feels like that, especially with that team being so offensively driven, there was no way he wasn't going to be signed.

Speaker 1:

So the I so it was good for him that he got his money. He looks a lot better. He's a lot better of a quarterback now than he was when he was playing with the Rams. So he has gotten better year over year. When it comes to what the player he is now, he's definitely a lot better than the player he was playing with the Rams. So good for him that he has played so much better. It's good for him that he's gotten his money.

Speaker 1:

Over $40 million is kind of crazy, but again we were talking about the top of the market is looking at $55. I feel like Joe Burrows are like the $55 million mark, so he's nowhere near the top when it comes to the money the quarterbacks are getting, but he is a very good starter in this league and he's definitely getting paid like. So I don't necessarily have a big. I'm not miss lean mad about Jerry Goff getting paid whatsoever. He that he's been a very good player for that Detroit Lions team and he's earned that contract.

Speaker 1:

But I think the bigger conversation is what that does for everybody else in the quarterback market. You have Dak that is going into the last year of his deal with the Dallas uh Dallas Cowboys who has yet to get his contract done for the foreseeable future. You have Tua who is holding was holding out for a little bit, but I feel like he. I feel like I read he had shown up to some type of mini the uh offseason workouts. So Tua is looking for his deal and hasn't gotten one yet. And then you have a few players coming down the line that they're going to want to get paid too. So I feel like the main two questions that I have is Fortua is probably the big one, because he's the one that's currently trying to get paid right now, because most of his classes have already gotten paid.

Speaker 1:

He got drafted with Joe Burrow. He got drafted with oh no, why am I forgetting their names now? With Joe Burrow, with Jay Herbo, with oh. Why am I forgetting the draft Joe? When did he get drafted? I don't know. He was the 2019 draft, right, 2019. I just want to get the quarterbacks right so I can say who were the guys drafted. Okay, oh, sorry, it's 2020, ain't it? 2019 season? 2020 draft class Okay, joe Barrow, in the same draft class as Tua, has already gotten paid.

Speaker 1:

Justin Herbert, in that same draft class, already gotten paid. Jalen Hurts has already gotten paid. Jordan Love got paid, but it's not necessarily at the top of the market. He was because obviously he was waiting behind Aaron Rodgers for most of that rookie deal that he had. So he is technically signed to a second contract, but it's like a mini contract where he's not really getting paid full money, but he's getting paid good money because they didn't really see him play before last season but he played very well. I feel like in the next two years he'll end up coming back to the table and looking for a new contract and if he plays well he'll be at close to the top of the market with everybody else. But all the guys that got drafted with Tua have pretty much already gotten paid and he's the guy that's left going into the fifth year of his rookie deal with the fifth year option and he's looking for his right and I feel like with Tua leading the—he led the NFL in passing yards last year I feel like Tua is looking to be that next guy to kind of break the market and kind of get that top money in the NFL if not be pretty close. And I totally get Miami not necessarily being too keen on wanting to give him that type of money because of how he plays.

Speaker 1:

And I feel like me and Jace were talking about this last week. We kind of started going through the quarterbacks so like, is Tua better than this guy? We were talking like 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 guys before we're getting into Tua. So here's my main type of thought on Tua right as to why Would I pay him top of the market money? No, by no means right. But would I give him Jared Goff type of money, like Jared Goff's getting a little over $40 million fully guaranteed per year in his four-year deal? Am I okay with Tua? I would probably put him just below that because I feel like Jared Goff is a little bit better than Tua, but like not a lot. So I'd put him around like $30, upwards of $35 million a year. I feel like would be a good spot for Tua to be in, and this is why I think so.

Speaker 1:

I feel like a lot of the guys at the top of the market obviously Joe Burrows, the Patrick Mahomes and all that they're the guys that hey, they're the tone setters, they're the best guys in the NFL. They're the guys that, hey, if things aren't going well, put things on my back and I'm willing to kind of power us to a win. I feel like guys like that are the ones that deserve to be at the top of the market, and they are, and that's who they are. Tua is much lower down that list. He's like Jared Goff isn't necessarily that guy either, but I feel like Jared Goff's kind of like right in the middle where he is a very good NFL starter but he doesn't necessarily have that superstar factor. I feel like Tua is kind of like right, still in that same type of that range.

Speaker 1:

But I think Tua, with his injury history and with the the fact that he is as small as he is and that when it's cold and windy outside it played its way out in Kansas City last year in the playoffs he wasn't like he doesn't have the strongest arm, he's not able to kind of how do I put this? And not be totally disrespectful to, uh, when things are going well, to a looks great, but when things are going terribly, to a kind of goes with everybody else and everything goes terribly with him, like he go, he is not going to be the one to put team on his back when things aren't going well and kind of power them to a win. He's not necessarily that type of guy and with the issue not the issues but the the limitations that he has in his game as a player, with the fact that he doesn't necessarily have a great arm and he's not able to play in the cold, the fact that he is smaller and not really able to see over the offensive line, the fact that he is not much of a runner, so he's not really able to extend plays all that well, the offense that he is in with Miami, with those two great receivers in Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle and the great running backs like he is in a perfect system for him. I feel like him. And why am I forgetting San Fran's quarterback's name? Um, I see this to thank me for this podcast. It's, oh no, sorry guys. Um, brock Purdy. Sorry, I had to look it up because I just want to make sure I got his name. I always forget I if I'm not on the podcast. I remember names decently well, even though I still kind of forget names, but definitely on the podcast it gets so much worse.

Speaker 1:

I feel like Brock Purdy and Tua are kind of in the same boat. Okay, so they are on very high-powered offenses with great players around them, not only at the running back position but at the wide receiver position and tight end. And then you have the superstar head coach that is an offensive genius that's able to draw up plays that make everything very easy for you, right? So I feel like Tua and Purdy are kind of in that same type of mode where they have to be the point guard, they have to be the extension of the head coach and just do make the play. That's there. That that's there to be made, right.

Speaker 1:

But I think the kind of difference is that Brock Purdy kind of has that little bit extra. Where Brock Purdy is able to like extend plays a little bit and kind of make some, make some things happen a few times a game in the way that Tua is not able to do so. Tua does not necessarily have that athleticism to be able to do that. He is not necessarily a taller guy that's able to do that. And I feel like I'm not going to say Brock Purdy has a much better arm than Tua, but I feel like it is better. But here's the difference, right, is that Brock Purdy playing on the Niners, he's either going to be playing at home in San Fran, where it's still going to be nice weather, or he's playing in the NFC, where there's not a lot of cold weather teams that he's going to have to go to and play in the playoffs, or he's going to be playing in a dome, so like he doesn't necessarily have that issue, while Tua, like a lot of the best teams in the AFC that he's going to have to face in the playoffs are in the cold, they're not in a dome. So, like Tua has a much like with the issues that he has, it's going to be a lot bigger of an issue than with Brock Purdy having the similar issues with where he has to go play.

Speaker 1:

So if I'm Miami and I look at Tua with the problems that he has, am I willing to give top of the market money? I'm not going to do so. But again, it's not. That's not Tua's problem. Tua he was. He was the best passer last year. He had the most passing yards last season and he had a bunch of. He had a bunch of numbers. But here's the thing is that once you start paying quarterback that type of money, you have to start piecing away the team and if you take two, if you take those pieces away from Tua a Tyreek Hill, a Jalen Waddle, all those players around him if you start taking away those pieces because he gets paid more, will he be the same player. He's not going to be able to do what Joe Burrow does and be able to upgrade the talent around him. I feel like Joe Burrow can do that, even though Joe Burrow hasn't had to Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes has had plenty of different offensive pieces on his team and he's been able to play so well that it doesn't matter In the big games. He's able to make the plays necessary and put his team in a chance to win, no matter what, even with lesser offensive guys. Can Tua do that? I'm not going to put my money on it, and I think Miami is kind of making that same type of decision too, which is why they have not paid Tua like he would like to get paid as of yet.

Speaker 1:

All right, I'm getting off the Tua conversation, but there is a few other players that are currently holding out of team activities, looking for money, and I just kind of wanted to list them real quick and kind of give some give a few thoughts on them as they go. So I'll start with my team. Cam Hayward has not shown up to team activities and he's looking for some new money, with him being, I feel like he's like 30. Let me get his age real quick. Cam Hayward obviously is a Buckeye. He's 35 years old. He's been playing in the NFL for 13, 14, 15 years Sorry, 14 years. I feel like he was a junior when he left Ohio State but he's been playing in the NFL for a long time.

Speaker 1:

He is a main stay for this Pittsburgh Steelers team. He is kind of like one of the main drive between him and TJ Watt. They're like the voices of this defense and for this team. The fact that he's looking for money, man, man it's a tough situation because he's a little bit older, but I don't. I feel like he's not looking for top of the market money. I feel like he's just looking for new money so he can have some security for himself, for the future, for him and his family. I feel like the Steelers will figure it out and give him some new money so he can come back to the team. They'll get it figured out. I just they like their, especially the main stays of their team they're going to pay him his money, give him a number he'll be good with, so he'll come back to the team. So I feel like that will get figured out at some point. But it doesn't really matter. I feel like no matter when he comes back. I feel like he'll be ready to go and he'll be ready to be one of the leaders of this team.

Speaker 1:

T Higgins is still holding out. He's looking for his deal. He's gonna be. He's looked at as being playing on their the fifth year option. He hasn't signed his not fifth year option, the franchise tag. He has not signed the franchise tag as of yet, so he does not have to show up any take the team activities. So he can't be. I feel like he's gonna wait until the very last minute to sign that if they he's not gonna be.

Speaker 1:

I feel like the situation I read was that they tried to come to the table. There was like one offer that was extended from the Bengals to T Higgins and it was so low on the amount of guaranteed money that they were just so far apart. Nobody has really come back to the table again. The Bengals have not tried to really give him another option Not option, but I haven't tried to give him another number to see if they're close. So it seems like the Bengals are just trying to hold on to this situation for one more year and just kind of let T walk while T is still trying to be like, hey, either pay me or trade me. And I feel like the Bengals are just kind of trying to say, hey, we're going to hold on to this for one more year, see if we can do it and then let the chips fall where they may after this season, and Tee's not really good with that. So Tee's going to wait to sign that franchise tag not franchise, yeah the franchise tag so he can get paid his $22 million guaranteed this year. He's going to wait until the tail end of the preseason, sign it and then come back and then play the season out and then probably be on a new team next year.

Speaker 1:

Um so, because I just don't think the Bengals with the they've already signed Joe Burrow, but they're gonna have to sign Jamar Chase at some point, and it's very hard to pay two wide receivers top of the market money. So, especially with T Higgins, deserves it. He deserves to be paid like a number one receiver because he's really played that well. So he deserves his shot to not only get paid very well as a top flight receiver but get his chance to be a number one receiver on another team. Because I do feel like Jamar Chase has earned the right to be that number one guy and that he's going to be the guy that the Bengals are going to have to pay here in the next year or so. So that's the situation on that.

Speaker 1:

Another guy, brandon Ayuk. We've already mentioned him a few times throughout this offseason but he hasn't shown up to any team activities. So he is a guy still looking to either get traded or get paid. And I feel like the Niners are kind of in the same boat as what I talked about just now with the Bengals. I feel like the Niners are trying to hold on to this for one more year. While Brock Purdy is still very cheap, they're saying saying hey, let's try to go for a Super Bowl and then kind of let things go as they may after this season. So I do think there's a very good chance. I think there's a better chance that he gets traded than T Higgins does. But because you know they've already, they drafted a first-round receiver this past year. The Niners did. I think the guy came from Florida, right like Ricky Pearsall, I believe his name is, and he's a very to receiver, a very close, like in skill set, to what Brandon Iuke gives you. So I do feel like they are planning for the future, but I do feel like they're trying to hold onto this for one more year to try to go for a ring and just let Brandon Iuke walk after this year.

Speaker 1:

And then, last but not least, justin Jefferson. He is still not showing up and he's looking to get his money. I feel like he's in a kind of different stratosphere than all these guys because I feel like he's looked at. Obviously he's the best receiver in the NFL and he's looking to get his money and I feel like the you know, I just heard myself. I'm saying I feel like a lot. I don't know why I'm mentioning it to you guys, but I'm pretty sure you've heard it.

Speaker 1:

But back to Justin Jefferson, he's the top wide receiver in the NFL. Based on what he does, the skill set, the production, all of it, the fact that he's as young as he is, he deserves to be the top paid wide receiver in the NFL and the Vikings have not like obviously they've been talking about it, but I do feel like the Vikings have kind of a lot like missed their window to really try to pay him. They should have paid him last year when he was looking for his. When they, when he came to them looking for a contract, they apparently they leaked that they offered around him around 30 million dollars a year, which would be kind of like right at the top. I feel like, uh, tyree Kills around 30 million dollars as well. So, like they leaked it, trying to make because you know usually when nfl teams do that, they're trying to like make the player look bad say, hey, they're just being greedy looking for more money, which is that's a classic nfl tactic.

Speaker 1:

But when you and then you see all the wives that have gotten paid this past offseason, you have both the Eagles wide receivers getting paid $30 million a year annually. You have the Colts wide receiver getting paid $25 to $30 million a year annually. You have a lot of these wide receivers that are not even close to what Justin Jefferson is getting paid Like, not even close to what Justin Jefferson is as a player getting paid big money. So if you're Justin Jefferson, hey, I should be getting paid a lot more money than those guys because of my production and because I'm the best wide receiver in the NFL. And I feel like Minnesota is trying to strike that balance between trying to give him his money but also try to help the team out. But again, I feel like when you have a guy of that stature and you have a new quarterback coming in, I feel like Justin Jefferson has all leverage in this situation and I feel like they're going to fold at some point, because I feel like they need him more than they need him a lot more than most teams do need their top flight wide receivers because of the situation they're in just drafting JJ McCarthy and breaking ina new quarterback I just feel like they're going to need him a lot more and he's going to get paid his money at some point.

Speaker 1:

It's just how hard are the Minnesota Vikings going to make it before they do so? Because Minnesota is known to not pay their top flight wide receivers big money. Because Minnesota is known to not pay their top flight wide receivers big money. They let Stephon Diggs walk and they traded him away. They traded away. Why am I forgetting? Oh no, randy Moss. They had Randy Moss on their team as a young superstar player and they traded him away to somebody else. They are known to not pay their top flight receivers the money they're looking for and just trade them away. But I just feel like in this scenario right now, the way that their team is built, they need Justin Jefferson so much more than in past than those other guys. They were at the spots they were at at those times, so they're going to pay him his money. It's just how hard are they going to make it before they do so? All right, I have been going on long enough, in about an hour and a half now, so I'm not going to ramble on anymore.
