The Shining-A Production Crew Quietly Going Insane Together
What happens when you mix a story by one of the greatest horror writers of all time with the film savviness of one the greatest film directors of all time? The result is 1980’s The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick, adapted from Stephen King’s book of the same name. The Story of The Shining sends us to the Overlook Hotel in Colorado, to where Jack Torrance (played by Jack Nicholson) takes a job as the hotel’s winter caretaker. He moves in with his wife Wendy (Shelly Duvall) and son Danny (Danny Lloyd), who unknowingly has a great telepathic ability to see and hear things others can’t. As the winter rages, the Torrances find out that the hotel is not all that it seems, and that will turn out to have deadly consequences.
While some moviegoers see The Shining as a simple story about a family tormented by an evil hotel, I see a movie chalked full of behind the scenes stories and hidden messages to be explored.
