Night of the Living Dead-The Birth of the Modern Zombie Film

When newcomer director George A. Romero embarked on his first feature length film, an independently produced picture going by the production name of Monster Flick, he and his fellow cast and crew had no idea the impact that they would have on modern day horror. Later changed to Night of the Living Dead, this film was the catalyst for modern day zombie movie phenomenon such as 28 Days Later, World War Z, and so many others.
Set in rural Pennsylvania (30 miles outside of Pittsburgh), Barbara and her brother Johnny are attacked by a devilish looking Ghoul (they don't use the word zombie in this film). After Johnny is killed, the ghoul chases Barbara to an old looking farmhouse where she meets up with other survivors. As the people hunker down in the old farmhouse for the night, they must make several decisions that will ultimately lead to life or death.
Not only revolutionary in its portrayal of cannibalistic flesh-eating corpses, Night of the Living Dead is also lauded as the first movie to cast an African-American in the leading role (Duane Jones as Ben).
