Good News for the Tired, Sick and Weary
Episode 21: Our world today is in turmoil. Freedoms are threatened and godly principles are under attack. But take heart! God sees you and he has a plan. Let's talk today about finding peace in the midst of this crazy storm we find ourselves in.
Hello, everybody. Welcome to the Dona Watson Show. I'm your host, Dona Watson. I'm just an average American Patriot who loves God, her family, her country. I try really hard to listen to God's voice. Sometimes I write stuff. Come with me, together let's explore this a crazy experience we call life. Welcome to the show. Hello everybody. Welcome to podcast. 21:"Good News for the Tired, Sick and Weary." As I'm recording this podcast, the world is a raging mess. I don't think many people will disagree with me on that. Just as a marker, the date is April 16th, 2021. As of today, our lives have been irrevocably altered by a questionable virus and a fraudulent president election. We've gone so quickly from a short period of relative peace and quiet to days, weeks and months marked by heavy handed government, restrictions on free speech and our constitutional rights, and an international scenario where nation rises up against nation to where the entire world seems to be caught up in a frenzy of riots and military posturing. Even to the point in some corners of the world to bombings, attacks, and loss of life, tragically, it's not pretty, it's not a pretty scenario we find ourselves in and if we're not careful, the stress of every day could wear us down and cause us to cower in fear. But you know what? That is exactly our enemy's goal. That's what he wants us to do. So today I want to bring you some good news and hope. With all of this turmoil roiling around in my mind, I opened my Bible today to Psalm, second chapter. And when I read the first few verses, I actually laughed out loud. Let's look at these verses together. Psalm two verses one through three reads:"Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers conspire together against the LORD and his Anointed One.'Let's tear off their chains and throw their ropes off of us.'" Doesn't that sound familiar? Nearly everywhere we look, we see evil rising up against godly principles. In some parts of Canada, our Christian brothers and sisters have had to start meeting in secret because the authorities won't allow them to meet in public. I would imagine this to be true in other nations as well, where the civic authorities have locked everything down and the churches are having to go underground. Unless something changes, I also fear we're in for a season of riots over the next few months, riots that have already been planned in advance, I'm afraid, all to further their own agenda. But Psalm two verse one says,"the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain." God sees what they're doing. It says,"The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers conspire together against the LORD and his Anointed One.'Let's tear off their chains and throw their ropes off of us.'" They don't want to be bound by godly principles. And what's God's response? This is where I had to laugh. Look at verse four:"The one enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord ridicules them. Then he speaks to them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath:'I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.'" I'm going to continue in verse seven, it says:"I will declare the LORD's decree. He said to me,'You are my Son; today I have become your Father. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance and the ends of the earth your possession. You will break them with an iron scepter; you will shatter them like pottery." So now, kings, be wise; receive instruction, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with reverential awe and rejoice with trembling. Pay homage to the Son or he will be angry and you will perish in your rebellion, for his anger may ignite any moment. All who take refuge in him are happy." I love the contrast of that last line in Psalm two:"All who take refuge in him are happy." Are you taking refuge in God? Take heart, my friends. God knew about today. God knew about 2020. He knows what's going to happen this summer. He's not surprised and he's not worried. He has so much compassion for you that he sent his son Jesus Christ to make a way to be reconciled to him. In the gospels(Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) we find instance after instance of Christ reaching out in compassion. In Mark 2, the Pharisees asked why Christ would eat with sinners and tax collectors. And Jesus told them,"It is not those who are well, who need a doctor, but those who are sick. I didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners." Yes, Jesus came to heal the sick and set the captives free. And that's us. That's you. That's me. He sees you. He loves you. So take a deep breath. It might seem like the world's going to hell in a handbasket. Good Lord! But yes, the Lord is good and he has a plan and he wants to shelter you in the palm of his hand. Trust him and do not be afraid. It's gonna be okay. Stand up for what you know to be true and godly. And remember that all of God's might and power is backing you up. That's all I have for today, you guys, I hope this word encourages you. Be strong. Don't be afraid. God is in control. I love you guys! Until next time, take care. Bye!
