The spiritual life is all about ENTRUSTING when it is HARD. If it was easy, anybody could do it. Hagar is asked to do the hardest thing: SUBMIT. She's also asked to give evidence of it by returning. Along with forgiveness, these make the top-five of spiritual difficulty.

Hagar will beautifully adorns herself in submission. I think she teaches the concept to Sarai who is later lauded for demonstrating it. In so doing these hard things, Hagar helps Sarai, and all of us who admire her.

Two hard things: return & submit s1e82 Gen 16:4

Entrust when it is hard.******* frankly just bad examples x 3 here

Ab, Sarai, and Hagar all doing bad things. Nothing to be proud of

Impatient for an heir

Abdication of responsibility; leadership

Jealosy

Blame

Everybody doing something wrong.

People doing stuff wrong with their nakedness

People doing stuff wrong with their marriage commitment exclusiveness

People doing stuff wrong with their actions and attitudes

                  Deal harshly

Upside down family dynamics.

WHY STUDY THIS? What kind of PEOPLE are we?

What kind of GOD do we have********

Gen 16: . 4 And he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, she looked with contempt on her mistress. 5 And Sarai said to Abram, “May the wrong done to me be on you! I gave my servant to your embrace, and when she saw that she had conceived, she looked on me with contempt. May the Lord judge between you and me!” 6 But Abram said to Sarai, “Behold, your servant is in your power; do to her as you please.” Then Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her.

7 The angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur. 8 And he said, “Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from my mistress Sarai.” 9 The angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress and submit to her.” 10 The angel of the Lord also said to her, “I will surely multiply your offspring so that they cannot be numbered for multitude.” 11 And the angel of the Lord said to her,                    “Behold, you are pregnant

and shall bear a son.

You shall call his name Ishmael,

because the Lord has listened to your affliction.

Just because a relative, let’s say a spouse has a bad idea

Doesnot mean you have do it…Ab lisened to the voice of Sarai2

Bible does not endorse polygamy—not design

Guess what, because of the power of sexual union,

Having sex outside your marriage will adversely complicat

This is an argument AGAINST Poly: strife, complex.

Hagar is in YOUR POWER. No, you have leadership.

This is not helping your spouse through difficult decisions

Do to her as YOU please, vs. do to her as God please

Treat others as you’d have them do to you.

Treat others as God would have you do to them

God remembers Hagar. Lord listens.

Lord always has some difficult stuff:

Love the courage of people of God YOU ARE NOT OK

Sunday am: you are not God—owe worship and gift

You are not OK: likely character that needs work

For Hagar: submission: huge theme of the Bible if you are a child, a woman, a wife, a worker, a citizen, a church member, or a man

It is everybody’s issues and her issue

Submission is my voluntary relational attachment under a designated person, who is acting in a designated role, that demonstrates by word and action an imperishable, internal adornment before GOD.

Shows in relational lpractice what is true in spiritual reality

Never works unless you get spiritual component right “as to the Lord”, for the Lord’s sake, “as you would Christ part right.

GO BACK AND SUBMIT. Hardest things in world.

Ironically , this is what is praised specifically of Sarai.  How did Sarai learn it? Maybe here from Hagar!

1 Peter 3: 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentleand quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. 5 For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening.

Adorning self in submission; does she help Sarai’s faith? Example

Conclusions

Do you have anyone authoritatively below you that you could treat with contempt or kindness? Sure. Let’s try kindness.

Do you know where you are going? Or are you letting blame, and anger and consequences drive that bus?

Are you involved in a sexual situation that you shouldn’t be? It is powerful, will compromise judgement, as it did here for love triange

         Authority. Submission. Sex

Two hard things: return & submit.  Why? Example. Heritage. Biggest of big deals. Help generations. Learn. Help Ab and Sarai w it.
