Sarah Elizabeth Smith Season 1 Episode 20
Jennifer Knapp is a beloved singer-songwriter who got her start in 90s Contemporary Christian Music scene. She received four Dove Awards and two Grammy nominations during her CCM career then left abruptly leaving her successful albeit stressful career behind. Seven years later Knapp came back with news that she was gay and wrote a lovely memoir about her childhood growing up in rural Kansas to her path to the CCM world, why she left and her how faith never ceased during her self discovery of her sexuality. Now Jennifer is an advocate for LGBT issues in the church and she just released her 3rd album post-sabbatical called Love Comes Back Around. She begins her tour for the album this weekend in Waco and travels mostly around the midwest and east coast. In this interview, Jennifer and I discuss the impact her music has had on people’s lives, her career in the CCM world and her spiritual journey amidst her discovering her sexuality.
