This episode features Balazs Parkanyi, Counsellor for Economic and Financial Affairs at the Delegation of the European Union to the United States, in conversation with Yvonne Bendinger-Rothschild, Executive Director of the EACCNY. Their discussion centers around the European Union’s Summer 2022 Economic Forecast and offers an overview of the toll of the war in Ukraine, a deep-dive into inflation (its causes and effects), the EU labor market, EU policy responses, including a look ahead into 2023.

Balazs Parkanyi is Counsellor for Economic and Financial Affairs at the DELEGATION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION TO THE U.S. His primary areas of responsibility include US economic and economic policy developments, transatlantic economic relations and relations between the EU and multilateral financial institutions, mainly the IMF. Prior to joining the Delegation, Balazs held various positions in the European Commission Directorate General for Economic and Financial affairs (DG ECFIN).

He spent five years at the International Monetary Fund as Advisor to European Executive Directors. Prior to joining the European Commission, he was a macroeconomic modeller at the central bank of Hungary.  Balazs holds a Master's Degree in Economics from the Corvinus University of Budapest and an MPhil Degree in Economics from the Central European University.
