Welcome to the Clearly Podcast Christmas Day special! This will be a short episode because we all have holiday festivities to attend.

The hosts discuss their ideal "data presents" for Christmas. Shailan would like a data migration and cleansing tool to streamline the process of moving data from on-prem to the cloud, especially for ERP systems. Andy's present is a perfect specification tool to ensure clear, unchanging project specifications. Tom wishes for a universal data dictionary so terms like revenue and profit are consistently defined across all organizations.

They acknowledge that these presents are unlikely to become reality but enjoy fantasizing about them. The episode concludes with holiday well-wishes and a reminder to enjoy the festivities. Merry Christmas and see you in the New Year!

Andy:

Hey everyone, welcome to the official Clearly Podcast Christmas Day special! We'll keep this short because we've got holiday festivities to get to, like eating too much and drinking too much.

Tom:

Yeah, this is going out on Christmas Day. If you hear jingling, that's the reindeer leaving.

Andy:

You'll add the sound effects later, right?

Tom:

Yeah, I'll remember.

Andy:

Perfect. Alright, for this Christmas special, we're giving ourselves "data presents." Shailan, let's start with you. What data present would you like for Christmas?

Shailan:

I'd love a data migration and cleansing tool. When migrating data from on-prem to the cloud, there's still a lot of manual work needed, especially when moving from an older version of ERP to a new one.

Andy:

You're stealing my present idea!

Shailan:

Oops, sorry! But it's true, we need better tools for data migration and cleansing.

Tom:

Sounds like Shailan opened the wrong present. Andy, why don't you take Shailan's present?

Andy:

Alright, my present is a perfect specification tool. We need clear, unchanging specifications for data projects, but they often get lost in the process.

Shailan:

Yeah, a perfect specification would save so much time and confusion. But it's hard to create because businesses change over time.

Tom:

That's true. Speaking of which, my present is a universal data dictionary—a set of data definitions that everyone can agree on, so terms like revenue, cost, and profit are defined the same way everywhere.

Andy:

A universal data dictionary sounds great but might reduce our consulting work!

Tom:

True, but it would let us focus on delivering polished projects.

Andy:

How likely is any of this to happen?

Tom:

Probably as likely as finding a pink unicorn!

Andy:

Exactly. But it's fun to dream. Let's wrap this up and enjoy our Christmas!

Shailan:

Yeah, time for mince pies. Merry Christmas everyone!

Andy:

Merry Christmas! Have a wonderful holiday.

Tom:

Merry Christmas! See you in the New Year!
