On Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 1:00 PM CT, the Innovation Institute for Fan Experience (IIFX) hosted a virtual town hall titled "Best Practices for Sports & Entertainment Venue Emergency Medical Response." 

A distinguished panel of Sports & Entertainment industry leaders joined the IIFX Medical Advisory Board’s experts to discuss best practices for responding to a medical emergency during a sports or entertainment event.
    
The very public, sudden cardiac arrest incident and hospitalization of 24-year-old Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin illustrated the importance of having well-trained staff, trainers, and a medical team available to provide emergency medical response. 

This Virtual Town Hall event focused on the key elements of emergency medical response. Expert panelists discussed:

  • Field response to critical medical incidents
  • Standards for field response applicable to smaller venues with fewer resources
  • Venue response to critical incidents
  • Importance of CPR and AED training, and stop the bleed training
  • Planning and exercises
  • Coordination with nonmedical resources and leadership
  • Public communications – during and after incident
  • Legal considerations and Duty of Care
