What's up, witches and bitches. I have missed you all so much and I have a lot of confessions for you here today. First up, I had recorded this for YouTube and listen, it's just not the podcast I wanted to put out. I need to work on that technology a little bit. So if you heard me say that, and you're a little disappointed you don't get to see my face doing this while I'm on YouTube.
I think it's a work in progress. I got to get a little, the studio set up or something so that I'm like comfortable sitting on the camera and just opening my heart to you like I like to do here on the podcast. It's a little different when you got the video and all the technology. Anyhow, I don't want to waste our podcast talking about all of that.
Just know that's in my plans and that's coming. All part of my big dreams will probably drop in this welcome back episode. You might have noticed a rebrand if you've been a long time HeartSingh podcast listener. Maybe you're just starting. Finding this podcast for the first time so I wanted to explain a little bit going from Hart's thing to Me first midlife badassery and we're going to talk about that this episode also my full confessions of buffering the shit out of everything and I finally am just Going explicit on this podcast and i'm not like I don't cuss every other words But I have had to censor myself quite a bit not having the explicit and it hasn't always been Ben, the case anyhow.
So I figure I'm just going to be me and hopefully you guys are cool with that. And you might get a little F bomb or an S bomb or whatever bombs are coming out and just want to be me, man. And isn't that what this is all about at this time in our lives, this midlife era where we're unlocking this magic, where we tend to not give a fly and flip about what anyone else thinks anymore.
And guess what I learned doing all this work. All right, Ben. Oh, doing so much since I spoke with you guys last. I'm going to try to rope it in here, but I feel like I roped it in too much on my prior recording. So you're going to get it from the heart here, right? I, first off, confessions, you guys, I feel like I've been making progress getting my life in order with my habits, my habit stacks, all of that stuff, but eating stuff that doesn't serve me, drinking stuff that doesn't serve me, still buffering Netflix, all of the things, just avoiding.
stepping into my greatness, and I see my spirit guides and they're like, you're right where you're supposed to be. And I'm like, but I'm an action person, right? I got to go, go, go do it and keep moving in that direction. And I don't want my weight to keep moving in the other direction. Right. I've been holding steady for a little while now, but since I saw you last, I've gained 30 pounds and I had already gained like 10, 15, somewhere at 20, somewhere in there.
So this is something like for me. Why my weight loss has been a path into my higher self is because when I am not buffering, when I'm not doing those things that don't serve me to where I'm gaining 30 pounds, I'm unlocking all this frigging magic that like lights the world up. And that is what I'm here to share with you.
And the renaming to the badassery, This is because so much of badassery is needed to step into this next version of yourself. And I found this really cool article about 15 characteristics of being a badass. And I want to go through that and explain why, like figuring out who your inner badass is, is so important on this journey and it's why I created Slayer.
So I created this alter ego. Back when I was 300 pounds, I couldn't even imagine being like down where I got this year, down under 200 pounds or 170. I couldn't even imagine being 200 pounds at that point. Right now at sitting at 250, I can imagine it, right? I was just there. I know what it is. I know how I feel.
I can generate that emotion in my body. But back when I was 300 pounds, I couldn't, and you will hear me talk a lot on this podcast about Weight and food and hormones and health and all of this because for me, it's all tied together just like how we care for our money and abundance and not coming from a restriction and being in vibes of gratitude and joy and Love is all connected and you know where it all comes together for me You guys if you just get really clear on that vision that big ass crazy vision of, myself living in this high rise overlooking the ocean.
It's all clean and neat and like I get up and I do my thing and I do yoga overlooking it and maybe I walk down and go to my yoga studio. I pop over to Whole Foods and I walk the beach and I record some things and I write a little bit, seeing that and feeling that energy being like, wow, is that crazy?
That could really be my life. That's how traveling around the world in the RV happened, right? It wasn't like I thought, oh, I'm really gonna go do this. I was just live talking about my life telling you guys. I'm like, you know what, would be really cool. I could be the coolest mom ever across the ocean if I had an RV and could travel and show her the U.
S. like kids that grow up in the Hawaii don't get to see. Right? Like you just don't have time when you get over here to do that. Like we get to road trip when you live over here. So anyhow, whew, there's so much today to tell you guys, but those are my full confessions. The weight gain, all of this stuff.
Now for the greatness, because don't ever forget to celebrate, because it's more about creating that vision and unlocking that magic inside to step into that future. Believing in yourself enough that you can be the badass and the worthiness, the stepping into it right now, not having to wait until you're at the goal weight or until you got the thing.
Like you are in it now, you're living it now. I'm living my most. life right now in this moment, sharing with you here on the podcast, doing something I love, stepping out of my comfort zone. I woke up this morning, you guys, and I wanted to binge some Netflix. I took the day off because we had our planning session this weekend, which I have a lot of magic stuff from that to share with you today.
I just made myself get out of bed and start my morning routine, which involves writing my magic pages and a plan. And I didn't even get past the magic morning pages before I determined I needed to rerecord and show up a little bit differently in this podcast. So let's get into it. All of that, background being updated.
And if you don't know my full story, episode one is a really good breakdown of where I started, but it's been a journey since then. And it's been that process, right? You get a goal, you get a vision and you move toward it and things change and you're constantly redirecting and re adapting yourself toward the goal.
And this is why our badass self is needed. When I burn this out, podcast, right, in November, I was just really feeling lost. And like I had to make room and space to hear my direction, right? I just felt like I had so much stuff, the new job in commuting, figuring out how to take care of myself and my health and my body.
So since then, some actions I've taken, I want to share with you all. I think I had like started tracking my food on Weight Watchers app just to track and that was cool and fun for like a month and really helped me see like some points in things I was eating, but that I fell off the wagon with that, so to speak, right?
And just really knowing how important it is to write down what you are actually eating when you're in a phase where you're not free from food. I've been in phases where I'm free from food and that's where I want to be, like to release that desire from food. So I'm working my way back there. But meanwhile, I've got all these obstacles I'm overcoming, right?
The break room, the lunches at work, just not having as much control of my environment. But of course we know we have control of our minds, right? It's like really working to see, Hey, what do I want this life to look like? Where I'm at now and where I want to go and how can I live it now? So I have gotten a glucose monitor, which has been really eye opening.
Just seeing my glucose levels. I want to get my fasting blood sugar down, my resting blood sugar to like between 70 and 90. So when I wake up in the morning, It's there and it's a little elevated from that. And then I also got a ketone monitor and I am keeping track of when I'm getting into ketosis or working on that.
That's what I'm doing. This 90 day plan, which just started for July is really just. figuring out my body and when I'm getting ketosis or into fat burning, right? Going, learning this metabolic switching when you are in menopause, perimenopause, wherever you're at in life. Even my 30 year old daughter, I'm like, this stuff is so So important for you to understand what is going on with your hormones in your body and how to switch and adapt between when you need to eat and feed and what you should do that with, what kind of foods and when you need to, like when you could extend your fasting and really get into the fat burning mode and bust it out.
You guys notice that in your cycle? Like you're like, Oh, I'm doing great. I feel so good. Totally on track. And then carb cravings come in. And that is typically your body needing progesterone. And where all this information is coming from, I got in a wormhole as I do. This is why we're here. And I ended, I did a webinar by Dr.
Mindy Pels, who does the Resetters podcast. I found her through Dave Asprey and some biohacking stuff on, and she is like doing so much for women's health and hormones, which is a highly understudied area, and people are just starting to talk about menopause and women's brains and all of this. So I ended up doing her certification course.
So I got her coaching certification because I wanted more information. You guys, it was like a PhD in hormones. So we're going to be talking about that probably quite a bit this season as I'm hacking my body, if you will, really understanding the glucose and the ketones. So I know. When I'm getting in and out of it and if I eat some crap like learning the other day, I learned this more confessions I ate some chicken and then I had a pint of ben and jerry's and I had no blood spike and no weight gain I don't know if that's information I want to know, but it's true.
So it's really fascinating to me to be able to see that and my flexible spending account covers the glucose monitor and I'm, not diabetic or pre diabetic just to let you guys know out there and regardless you should work with your doctor on it, too Even doing the coaching certification with Dr.
Minnie. She talks about that us being lifestyle coaches I'm, like well, that's what i've been doing. Anyway, that's what the whole me first guide process is is, is creating a lifestyle for yourself that works for you. And this is why none of this other shit works, right? All these quick pills, quick fixes, all these diets we've been on our whole lives because it's lifestyle.
It's like, how are you going to get up and feel good for yourself and fuel your body? What works in your body is different than mine. We have different microbiomes getting into the gut health, which we've done a lot on this podcast. So, so I did that. I got a whole nother coaching degree since I saw you guys last.
What else have I done? I got the glucose monitor. I'm into the ketones, like really starting to do that. I signed up for yoga teacher training. If you've been following me a while, this is one of my, I, we do this activity and I want you to do this if you haven't done it. And even if you have, ask yourself if it's the same.
If you were to die and come back and they say, Hey, you could be whatever careers in the whole wide world you can pick. And you can have as much money, any of that. It doesn't matter. You have no restrictions, right? You're a baby and you get, you get to choose coming into this next world. And yoga instructor was always on my, I'm like, how cool that just be on my yoga mat all day.
Right. And just teaching and like how, what it just. Sounds wonderful to me. So that was always one of them and being an author These two are coming up again. The other ones were like motivational speaker and TV personality Which I kind of get my fix doing Facebook lives and being here talking with you guys and now going into the YouTube, right?
It's like those things daring to say what would you dare to do? If you could choose, because so many of us think we can't choose, and we can, right? And what if you dared to think you could choose? What if you dared to think you could be that seven year old that becomes a world famous fashion designer because she didn't tell herself she couldn't, right?
We like to tell ourselves, oh, that's great for them, but I couldn't do that. Yes, you can! We can dream big and be anything we want to be just like our parents used to tell us when we're little, right? This is what the universe is for. Oh, this is good, you guys. I was listening to Elizabeth Gilbert. You know, she has this, it's called Letters from Love.
It's an email subscription and she has a little group. I didn't join the paid group yet. I don't know, I might. I really love Elizabeth Gilbert and how she just lives with her heart open. And in this one, she shared her letter. From love that morning. So every morning, she says, What is dear love? What do you have to tell me today?
And today, love told her that, Oh, you're all about these goals and getting goals. But what if goals are just guesses? Like, it was like, love was like, dear Lizzie, look back at your past and you can see from your five failed marriages or whatever she said, that like, the goal, the end goal wasn't it, but your life is exactly how it was supposed to be.
What if these are just guesses and you get to have some fun with it? I'm like, yes, right. Remembering and reminding ourselves, you guys, that this is play. And how can you play more at life? How can you create in this world? Like, let's say we are souls that decided to come experience this time. You know, what, what, what do you want to do to have fun and experience it?
What does that look like for you? And I think ultimately when it gets down to it, when we seek that thing that we desire, whether it's, high rise condo overlooking the ocean or RV travel in the country. When you seek that thing that you desire, you end up finding your purpose within it. It ends up serving other people in some way.
Just like my journey served other people when I was like, Oh, well maybe I'll just share my life out here. Maybe I'll just share the weight loss. And it inspired and helped other people change their lives too. Right? That's crazy to me. And all I did was share my story. Right? So what can it look like for you?
And here's the thing. If you don't dare to dream, it's not ever, you're not going to change. You have to have a new reality you're going to and it should be a little scary. So this is all about fear and stepping into it and daring to dream big. That's what we do here at the Me First Midlife Badassery Podcast.
That and learning to put yourself first, you guys. I love you. Was not putting myself first again for a long time. I just really figured this out at work again like a few months ago. I think it just really where I was like saw myself going all in and caring too much about the wrong things. The wrong things being not me first.
Right, like thinking about everyone else again before myself and that doesn't work and it's so innate in us because we were, have been trained this way. We've been put in this box and how are we going to break outside of this box? So I want to talk about why you want to unlock some of this badass within you, and how that can really help on any achievement to goal in anything you're doing in your life, right?
This is why we need to let our inner badass be unleashed a little bit, you know, so here I found this on theglowingedge. com. It was a cute little article about 15 characteristics of a badass and I thought I was reading I'm like, yeah, yes, yeah, that's why, that's why badassery. Here's number one, a badass never backs down from a fight worth having.
This is means to me a fight worth having for myself. And I think of the wine wench. I think of fast food takeout. I think of like, these are archetypes. I have battled like my nemesis is right. And like, I need my bad ass to step up to the plate and say, huh, not today. Wine wench. Nope. We're choosing Shreya over Preya.
Right. And if you aren't familiar with the Preya to Shreya saga. There's several podcasts on here that tell you about it, but real quick for you guys just catching up. The Apinashads is an Indian spirituality book and there's a story that it starts out with about a teenager trying to find the meaning of life.
So he goes to the King of death. And the king of death tells him, listen, if you just know this one thing, you will know the secret to life. Basically, in every moment you have two choices, the path of prayer and the path of Shreya. The path of prayer being the quick, sexy dopamine hits, the ones that feel good now.
That's our favorite, watching our favorite Netflix show, eating the ice cream, having the glass of wine, Eating the french fries like those quick things that go to our brain It's a physical thing that happens to you when you eat this food, right? and the food is made that way for that and there's so much stuff like now they're even putting things in food to Addict us to the food They spray it with stuff.
It's just crazy. Like our food industry is, don't even get me started on that. So anyhow, the Shreya choice is the longterm good choice. It's eating the salad and chicken when they ordered in for lunch takeout from CPK. That's a bunch of pizza and a bunch of crap salad, right? That's what I call it. Cause it's got all the dressings and all that stuff on it.
So it's like making that choice to honor what, right? I decided at the beginning of the day versus what happens to me during the day, right? It's that, it's that choice. And my badass, she makes the choice that I decided in the beginning of the day or the week or whenever I made my plan that was good for me.
She gets to yoga instead of going to happy hour. She goes to bed instead of watching Netflix all night, right? That's what your badass does. So the next one, your badass is an ordinary sinner. I love this one, you guys, because is that we're an ordinary sinner. This to me means, you know, your heart is good, but you F it up quite a bit, right?
Like I'm screwing up all the time. I'm not, I'm not some perfect angel over here. I guess the difference with an ordinary sinner is that they don't admit it. So a badass lives on the edge, right? This, this is the badass in you that wants to pursue that dream or that goal that's beyond your current circumstance.
Because when you do that, you're on the edge, you're stepping into fear, right? We don't accept the limits put on us by society. We don't want to stay in the box they told us that was where we should be. All right, we want to be out there exploring and pushing the limits and daring to try something new.
This is your badass and this can be all different levels for all of us depending on what we grew up with. You know, we've all been socialized and conditioned in different ways. So just being able to see and recognize your box is the first step. That could be taken the wrong way, and that's kind of funny.
But anyhow, we're gonna go over that. If you got that, good. Have a laugh. Okay, a badass is absolutely authentic. And this is what is so powerful and I started to tell you earlier and I didn't finish this when I was doing the Dr. Mindy stuff learning about all the hormones. We're talking about the female brain and what happens as we go through all these changes with hormones in our brains.
So when you're going through puberty, your brain's being ripped apart, right? You're being ripped apart. You're being ripped apart. created into this being that is going to want all this acceptance and to be part of it and So she can get out there and be loved and liked and have babies, right? That's why her brains were changed and then in midlife they decide, you know, we don't need to do that anymore We don't need to do babies anymore So we're gonna move you into the empathy leadership role Because we used to be the ones left back at camp taking care of shit while the men were off hunting So The younger women and kids were all having babies and doing that thing.
We had to make sure things were running. And this is what we're stepping into right now. If you can think of your brain like that, if you're going through menopause, perimenopause, and it feels like you're just being ripped apart, well, because you are in a lot of ways, your brain is, your hormones are, all of them.
We'll, we'll have some episodes on hormones. I want to get into that now that I got my PhD on hormones. Just can talk to your doctor. I'm not a doctor, but knowing that, knowing that you're going through this and that you can come out the other side and you're going to step into this place where you have more empathy.
Where, but you also care less what other people think about you because you don't need to care anymore because you don't need to be out there making a bunch of babies. So this is why it's so true when they talk about us getting into our fifties, our sixties, like as you step into this place where you don't have that hormonal reaction, you're like, yeah, whatever, dude, I don't care.
I just don't care. And a badass though is not a jerk. So it doesn't mean you don't care. And, and be a jerk about it, right? Like, you just aren't, you're, you come from love and you stand up for other people. You just don't need to quite brag about what a badass you are, but you know what you are. A badass acts despite the Fear so they're stepping up in the face of adversity, right?
It's like when I want to just hide under my covers and not record a podcast make a post like it's Dare to like do something outside my normal at everyday activity That's acting in spite of fear, right? One little movement you can make each day. What's that one little thing you can do? Just go do that, right?
A badass is a little bit mysterious, and I think this comes from us not caring so much anymore so we don't participate in a lot of conversations that we probably used to and we appear mysterious because we're like, Oh, all right. Well, whatever. Right? Get that aloof thing. So I thought that one was kind of, interesting.
A badass doesn't tolerate bullshit. Do we even need to get into that? Let's talk about boundaries and why maybe, like, so many divorces happen in midlife. Right? Like, that maybe just weren't good relationships or maybe the hormonal change. Who knows why, right? But it's a statistic now. So, no more tolerating bullshit for us badasses.
Badass has a tribe. Hello, witches and bitches. Welcome to our badass tribe. Badass accepts that blood happens. This means we know stepping into war, when I'm going to war with my food, with the wine wench, with stopping smoking in my life, with stopping eating crap food, when, like when I'm going to war with those things, there's going to be war wounds.
I'm not going to be perfect, right? Like, and it's, I'm going to get hurt along the way, myself. I'm going to have to manage myself through that. So we just know and we accept it though. We just accept that. Okay. That's part of it. Now what? A badass gets what they want. All right. And you know why they get what they want?
Because they get up over and over because they step into fear because they face that adversity because they dare to dream. They dare to say no and set limits and boundaries and step outside the box society put them in. Okay. That's why. Here's my favorite. A badass has swagger. My kids would like roll their eyes so badly at me right now.
I'm like, I didn't, the article wrote that. Okay. That is not Addy speak. I do love it though. Here's the important part about this having swagger. Having swagger means you know where you're going, right? Like you are living with purpose. You're stepping with purpose. You're taking action with purpose. And the more and more.
We step into taking purposeful action in growing ourselves, listening to ourselves, moving toward a goal we want. The more and more we do that, we act with confidence that gives us that swagger, right? That's why I can live my most fantastic life at any weight I am. It's all a mindset, right? You don't have to wait to get there to be the magic now.
You live it now. You create this lifestyle now that you love so much it doesn't even really matter in the end. And this is why we say the weight loss doesn't matter. But it does because when you're not buffering is when you get there, right? Okay, a badass is a natural leader. So again, this comes from cultivating that confidence, right?
You got the direction, you got the swagger, you're making definitions. It puts you into, you're moving yourself into a leadership role. Okay, and finally, the last characteristic of being a badass is that you speak with confidence and power. And to me, this is more about myself. All of this is, right? Like being the badass, having that slayer, this alter ego, which makes decision making and judgment So much easier, right?
Because you're not doing it to yourself, so to speak. It's this crazy, it's this fantastical alter ego you've created that she's just a badass, right? So if Slayer says, I'm not eating the shit, I'm not eating the shit, right? And when I can call on that, that superpower within me, I can stand up in the face of all of it.
So here's where we are with that. I hope you guys enjoyed kind of just getting into the definition of badass a little bit more. We probably won't have badass said this many times in another episode of the podcast. So just hang in there if that was overwhelming for you. You will hear Slayer a lot and we will also be looking at calling on this alter ego.
I really want to have some fun with that this season on the podcast about creating from our future selves, alter egos, visioning, mixed in of course with all, whatever I'm going through at the moment, whether it's hormones, weight loss, we're talking about menopause a little bit, all of the things that are affecting us in midlife.
And as I spoke with my Spirit Guides this week, I had a meeting with Renee Spears my spiritual guide and mentor and I go and talk with my Spirit Guides, right, and get confirmation. And it was just like, yeah, Ad, this is all good and great, but you just need to receive love. Receive love from all those around you, whether it's my daughters, whether it's people I work with.
People that listen to the podcast even, she said, that I meet online like accepting and receiving love. And I, I said, well, I write that every day in my guide. I am open to receiving love, money, infinite resources, doors opening. Like I'm really trying to be open more to receiving. Do any of, any of you struggle with receiving more than giving?
I feel like we spend our lives, especially as women, give, give, giving. So I'm like, okay, spirit, I'm still working on it. But also I like to go toward a goal. And if you know me, the book thing has been on the agenda forever. So I'm like, is this the time for the book? I'm dialing, I've dialed back like so much of the other things.
The Me First Guide Planner, like we just had the quarterly event. This weekend and we had a really small group which was amazing and I got to do it with everybody So that was super cool And I came out with this vision that i've been talking about about Me and the high rise downtown and pay attention because when i'm living in this it might be a few years from now Might be whenever but it's the dare to dream thing that looks like and i'm on this three year plan here with millie now Right, like she graduates in three years.
What does my life look like that at three years? I like when they, we talk about goal setting, they say that we underestimate what we can do in three years and we overestimate what we can do in a year. Think about that, right? Like we're like, okay, I'm going to lose a hundred pounds this year, 150 pounds, like whatever.
Right. And. That's great. I love a big ass goal and I will not stop making them. Even my weight loss goal this quarter, I am to get back in the two twenties. So it's about, it's almost like 30 pounds again. And, but it's who I become in that process of trying to get to that goal. And I'm also measuring my sugar and my ketones.
Those are more of a priority measurement for me, but I still keep an eye. I still get on the scale every day. And it's not, I don't get on there and cry, I, it's just a part of what I do now. Like I just get on the scale. Okay. How do I adjust? What do I want to do today? And see myself watching myself because now I'm this observer of self, which came back when I started meditation.
You guys, meditation is one of the greatest ways you can become an observer of self. And it also teaches you to sit through urges. There's no greater practice of sitting through urges than meditation. Because the entire time you're sitting there, your brain's going, until you train yourself, your brain's going, Oh, I should roll the laundry.
Oh, I could be brushing my teeth. I should do this. I should like what your brain just starts going, right? And then you just rope it back to your mantra or whatever type of meditation you're doing. And So what else do I want to share with you guys today? So this season on the podcast, really getting into this future self, this vision, this dreaming, because this is where, like, bringing in some of that manifestation fun into who you want to be, and also understanding that when you are through menopause, when you're on the other side, and I think a lot of you are already, I know a lot of you, I'm familiar with, Friends with, and were on the other side of that.
I went through menopause early, but my brain is still developing. Apparently that's what I learned. It takes about 10 years for your brain to fully go through the change, but I've also realized like that's why it's part of an awakening, it's a physiological thing as well. Okay, my loves. I wanna leave you this episode of our first season kickoff since the hiatus , we'll call this one the resurrection, shall we?
After I burned it all down, I pulled the heart chakra card. I use the yogic pack, the path deck. I have some other decks, but this is, this one is always in my draw in the morning. And it's part of the process I do to get my head out of the ass in the morning, right? Like, so I pulled this card asking, Hey, what direction do I need with this podcast?
Where am I going with this? And it says here. Your heart has opened its chambers to new possibilities and the light is coming through to soothe its once dark corners. This love heals all and allows you to see all people for their greatest potential, including yourself. By putting your armor down, you're able to truly see the intelligence of your heart, which will guide you in the right direction.
Trust the journey of the heart. It may not always make sense to the mind, but it is aware of the possibilities the mind cannot yet envision. When you truly live a heart centered life, there is nothing left to fear. Meditate on the color green and practice heart opening yoga poses to aid the journey. So you get that you guys, when you truly live a heart centered life, there's nothing left to fear and trust the journey of the heart.
After my spirit guides are like you need to receive, it's all about love, opening the heart. Look at this new possibilities. Like what did you take from that for yourself? Because this card was as much for you, dear listener. That reminds me of Bridgerton, right? Anyone else finish that binge? Oh my god, now I got the House of Dragons thing going on and it's just managing the buffering, right?
That's like what we're doing at this point because I'm not missing these shows, there's certain things but I also know I start I get more planned with that type of stuff as I Unlock my inner badass. So I hope you guys are excited to be on this ride with me this season I would love to hear about it Reviews, reviews, reviews.
I cannot get enough of them. If you already left one, if you want to leave another one, please do especially on a relaunch. It helps people see and find us like share it with your other badass friends. We're all headed into this segment of life together. And my goal is to leave you with one little thing that will inspire each week and take an action item for this week, daring to dream big and thinking about what is your inner badass look like?
And maybe next week we'll get into our alter egos a little bit and creating that vision for yourself. What are the roadblocks and how can we overcome them? Perhaps we'll have that up next. So let me know what you think. It has been so great to be back here with you guys. I will see you next week.
Hopefully lighter and later as my Weight Watcher coach used to say. I'll see you later and later. Slayer out!
