Get ready to navigate the stormy seas of US politics as we dissect the recent upheaval in the House of Representatives, in the race for the Speaker's chair. We promise to leave no stone unturned as we examine how Kevin McCarthy lost his seat and the intriguing dynamics that have followed his ousting. Discover the concessions that McCarthy made to Congressman Gates, and how these actions led to his downfall. Strap in as we analyze the challenges that Scalise had to face in his bid for the position, and the factors that played a significant role in securing his victory.

But the political whiplash doesn't stop there. We'll take a hard look at the fallout from McCarthy's decision to partner with Democrats on an appropriations bill, and the implications this has had on the Republican party. By zooming out, we'll assess the broader picture of Arizona's dire need for sturdy leadership amidst a polarized political climate. We'll also shed light on the staggering national debt and its astronomical interest payments. The conversation then takes a turn towards the important issue of term limits in politics and the fresh perspectives they can bring. Lastly, our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by international crises in Israel and Ukraine as we examine these situations. Tune in for a no-holds-barred exploration of these pressing issues.

Today we're going to be talking about the battle for the speaker's chair, and that's not the dinner chair, that is the chair up in Washington DC. We're going to be talking about how Kevin McCarthy lost his seat and how the two new contenders, jordan and Scalise, are fighting for that. And actually we're going to be talking about do they have enough votes on the subject of having the speaker chair, do they have enough votes to become speaker? And, at last count, they really don't. However, they did pick somebody who they want to be their speaker, and that's Scalise. He is. He was nominated the other day. We're going to be talking about that and more on the Walt Blackman show after these words from our sponsor.

Speaker 3:

Welcome back everybody. It's Walt Blackman, and welcome to the Walt Blackman show. Today we're going to be diving deep into the recent shakeup at the US House of Representatives, and that shakeup is the removal of the former speaker, kevin McCarthy. He was removed last week by representative Gates out of Florida and, first of all, with that, that was a move that has never taken place in the US House of Representatives never. And the over 200 years of sessions that has never happened. Now, how it did happen, kevin McCarthy, if you remember, wanted to be speaking. He'd been wanting to be speaker since he was probably able to walk, I don't know, but he wanted to be speaker so bad that he gave up a lot of concessions, and how and when he did that. He actually gave up a concession to the congressman from Florida, gates, that one person, one person in the conference, could make a motion to vacate the chair. So it seems like that the former speaker McCarthy made a lot of promises to the conference and he just couldn't keep them, and the particular ones that he made to Gates was a single item bill, voting on a single item issue or single item bill. He spoke about that, he wanted that to be in it, and then he wanted to cut back on some of the spending, so on and so forth. I got it All right At the bottom line. At the end of the day, he wanted him out of the speaker chair, based on I don't know. He maybe didn't like him, so he did a motion and eight or seven other Republicans in the conference voted, along with the congressman from Florida. After they did that, guess who? Jumped on board. The Democrats jumped on board and voted as a block and because they voted as a block, plus the eight that voted to speak out, he had to vacate his chair.

Speaker 3:

Fast forward to this week, they're looking for a new speaker and what? Everything that's going on down at the Capitol and in the world. We have the war that's going on in Israel. We've got the war that's going on in Ukraine. We've got Russia acting up. We got China doing their thing. You know Taiwan is pissed off at somebody. I don't know who they're pissed off at, but guess what? We have a lot of problems in this country and there's nobody in the driver's seat. There's nobody down in the driver's seat. They're all mad at each other, acting like a bunch of kids throwing rocks at each other, and we don't have a speaker, we don't have a house to do the business and, as you know, the legislative branch is the branch the Congress that's allocates dollars, allocates funds to other countries when they need help, and right now Israel and Ukraine are looking for help from the most powerful country in the world. So here let's talk about this a little bit now.

Speaker 3:

It's been a whirlwind of events since Kevin McCarthy, who was a speaker, as I said, was ousted, gone. They let him go. Dog, they said you got to go, you don't have to go home, but you cannot stay here and he had to go. So the Republicans, republican caucus since they are the majority nominated representatives Kelly's now I Was able to meet Representatives Kelly's some years ago. Nice guy. He's a guy who got shot while playing softball at the Capitol baseball field when there was a mass shooter out there. And Right now I mean this guy's been through it all. He's been shot, he's had to go through this. He has blood cancer now Prayers out to him. But this guy's been through a lot.

Speaker 3:

But what is fascinating about Scalise is the victory that he secured to get the nomination to be the speaker. Now it's just a nomination. He hasn't been voted in. Yet it's just a nomination, and and the victory wasn't without its challenges. Because so when somebody spokes, came out to talk about His victory, and they are his nominations, the ones that were not supporting him. So they weren't supporting him because of his illness, they weren't supporting him because they didn't like his platform, so on and so forth, and that is what happened to him.

Speaker 3:

Now his competitor, jim Jordan, who is the chair of judiciary, he's a known figure in a Republican Party. He's one of those guys hugging Trump and all up on Trump. And he's one of those guys and I've never met him. I've seen him on TV as a judiciary chair. He really lays in the people. But you know, it is what it is now.

Speaker 3:

After a secret ballot, as they do, scalise secured a nomination of 113 votes against Jordan's 99. So it was. You know, it's kind of a squeaker there. It was kind of a squeaker there. The problem with that is it's a razor thin majority. Now he has 113. He needs Scalise 212 votes to be speaker. So that means when they went in the conference the other day, 113 voted said yeah, we want Scalise to be the speaker, and 90 and and a significant number said no, we ain't doing it. So here we go Around the clown show again at the United States Congress, where they can't get their stop together, and all the while, the world Continues to move. The world ain't stopping for these clowns and that's what we're seeing right now. So we're gonna be talking about that and how the Republicans control the house. However, they are Driving lost right now. We're gonna be talking about that and more after these messages from our sponsor.

Speaker 3:

Welcome back everybody. This is Walt Blackman and we are talking about the world-win events at the United States Congress and how they fired the past speaker, kevin McCarthy, and they nominated a new one, scalise, and he still doesn't have enough votes. He needs 212 votes. To put and to put this all into context, everybody they can only afford, and in a Republican conference they can only afford. A few knows. So basically, they need just about everybody in a Republican conference to vote yes for this guy, and if they want to have their way, that's that needs to happen now.

Speaker 3:

After Scalise's nomination, several of Jordan supporters made it clear that they wouldn't back Scalise, and I think about that man. The country is stalled because our Congress is broken and the Congress has been broken forever. It's been broken forever. The country is stalled because the Congress is broken and now, since some of the folks who supported Jordan Didn't get their way, they're not going to back Scalise In a full chamber vote. Then that means guess what? The clock is still ticking. We are coming close to the another government or a possible government shutdown, because it was kicked down the road about 45 days and they still don't have enough votes.

Speaker 3:

And the clowns who made this stuff happen. Where are they to be found? We've got a week, so so here. So here it is. Here it is. Here it is taxpayers like you and I. We pay these folks a salary. They get paid $174,000 a year, $174,000 a year. They've taken more breaks in vacations than you know anybody that. I've seen work and I'm a business owner and I own a consulting form, and these people take a lot of breaks when they're still getting paid.

Speaker 3:

And then they pulled this move to get rid of the speaker, and when they got rid of the speaker I guess they didn't think forward and know that the government was going to, or the Congress, the legislative branch of our government was going to shut down because it can't do anything without speaker. We got a speaker pro tem, but the speaker pro tem is very limited in what they can do. He was pissed off when he hit that gavel Boo, it almost fell off his hand. But here we are right now, and now we've got folks that are not going to back Scalise and he needs. He needs all the votes that he can get and, as I said, the clock is really, really ticking.

Speaker 3:

Now Mints all this political jousting that we see there are bigger issues at stake and I've kind of mentioned that before and that's Israel and Ukraine and the spending bills. They haven't even gotten to the spending bills and what they're going to do, and the house right now has this plate full but there's nobody sitting at the table to start eating it, and that's a problem, particularly for me, since we're still paying taxpayer dollars to these fools. Now Scalise has voiced that his first move would be to pass a resolution in support of Israel and the conflict that we've been hearing and seeing on the news. That's what he wants to do, first, because of the issues that are going on over there by the militants in the Gaza Strip, and that's a good thing to do. However, some folks aren't for that Now. But now, perhaps the most Important issue that has come up, or the Pugnant issue in a moment that came up when Scalise remarked and this is a this is a quote from Representative Scalise, who's been nominated to be the new speaker we're working hard to get unified. We need to get unified because the world is not waiting.

Speaker 3:

Didn't I just say that the world didn't stop because these clowns couldn't get along? I mean, it's like a bunch of kids, man. I mean, if you got kids. You understand what I'm talking about. So when you when these kids, when you have kids and they can't get along, what do you do? You straighten them up, you take away their toys, you put them on time out. Whatever you do, these are a bunch of kids up here in Congress, y'all. They are a bunch of kids and I never seen anything like this before in my life. Now I don't know where they're. I hope they're back up there doing their job, but apparently they're not. However, the world's not going to stop and that is actually quoted from Scalise, and he actually said that and they need to be unified.

Speaker 3:

And here's the thing about the Republican Party we are not unified. Even on even down at the precinct level, we're not really Unified, and we need to get unified and they need to figure out what they're going to do. As soon as he gets out, now perhaps what's going to happen? We need to think about the other added drama that's gone on with that. Now, the first time in history, the Republican Party has been in such a tumultral situation to where and think about this, ladies and gentlemen, when I say tumultuous, and in the negative and bad situation they're in, we only control half of the house, half of the government, not even half we, because because Congress is controlled by the Republicans, in the Senate it's controlled by the Democrats and we obviously know who Sleepy Joe is. But we can't even get that right as Republicans to make sure that we can control or take care of our business. Now, I'm a Republican, I'm a conservative and we can't even take care of our business as Republicans. And the highest, highest level of government, the federal government that we see, the these folks are congressmen, they are elected officials and we can't even get that straight. But we want people to come out and vote for us.

Speaker 3:

Now, this started at the beginning of the year, in January, when McCarthy ran for Speaker and, if you're not familiar with that, it took him 15 rounds of voting before he could secure the speakership. Now, if it takes 15 times to get elected as a speaker from your own caucus 15 times, you know something happening. You know you're going to get in trouble. I mean, come on, man, you go up there and you say, okay, I want to be the speaker of the House and 15 rounds later you're still not the speaker. You might need to get another job.

Speaker 3:

He went through 15 rounds of voting before securing that seat early in his past year, and this leadership has avoided a larger, larger issue and other implications by doing this. And then, when they ousted the old speaker, mccarthy just by, you know, eight Republicans did that, you know. So we got I don't, you know, I think we got 500 and something or 430 people in Congress, something like that. I should know it, but I don't know it and I'll look that up Eight people in the caucus was able to do something like that. That is crazy. Everybody. We're going to continue to talk about some of the crisis that we see in our Congress as soon as we hear these messages from our sponsor.

Speaker 2:

Arizona. Are you ready for a leader who knows what it takes to serve both on the battlefield and in the halls of government? Meet Walt Blackman. Walt is not just any leader. He's a decorated combat veteran, awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his extraordinary actions in Iraq. Walt has also served honorably in Afghanistan, putting his life on the line to defend our freedoms. But Walt's service to his country didn't end overseas. He brought his dedication and leadership skills back home to Arizona, where he made history as the first black American elected as a Republican to the Arizona House of Representatives. Walt has already served two terms and he's not done yet. He's running to return to the Arizona House of Representatives to continue his dedicated service to the people of Arizona. Walt Blackman understands the challenges we face in healthcare, education and the economy. He's not just talking about change, he's actively working towards it.

Speaker 3:

Hello Arizona. I'm Walt Blackman and I'm committed to representing you. As a combat veteran, I've faced adversity and know the meaning of sacrifice. I will bring that same dedication to fight for you and your families in the Arizona House. Let's make Arizona a beacon of opportunity and freedom. I'm Walt Blackman and I approve this message because Arizona deserves strong leadership, now more than ever.

Speaker 2:

So if you want to prove a leader who can fight for you on all fronts, vote Walt Blackman for Arizona House of Representatives. Don't miss this chance to make history again Arizona. Vote Walt Blackman for legislative district seven. Paid for by friends of Walt Blackman.

Speaker 3:

All right, everybody, this is Walt Blackman, and welcome back to the Walt Blackman Show and let's go ahead and kick off where we left off. And that brings us to the border issue, and there are a lot of questions about what's going to happen with the border and there's a lot of blame to go around when we're talking about the border. The border has never really been secured. Now a lot of people say that the border was secured on the bush, it wasn't secured under Obama, or it was, I mean. And then now they're saying oh, what's this? Biden is not secured. Now here's the. I live on the border state. I live in Arizona, as many of my listeners live in Arizona. I've been down to the border many times because I was a state legislator, I was in the Arizona House, and that thing is wide open. That border is just wide open. I don't care whose fault it is. Somebody shut the door. We're not living in a barn.

Speaker 3:

Now polls, recent polls have come out and 64% of Americans don't believe that the politicians in Washington can put aside their differences. Yeah, they can't. That's even at the precinct level, as I said, and that's not good for the nation. Everybody Now with such prevailing sentiments between parties and within parties. The question is everybody how do our representatives navigate this issue? Are these issues that we are seeing? And then try to find some common ground, because the reason why Gates, representative Gates, one of the reasons why Representative Gates actually wanted to do a vacation of a chair and I talked about it, I talked about the single issue bill, the overspending was working with the Democrats. They didn't want to work with the Democrats. Now here's the deal again. I am a Republican, I'm a conservative, but however, these folks that are Democrats, they were elected by their constituents to go up there and do something also. So just cutting them out, that's kind of I don't know, that's kind of hard. And some people they don't want to deal with it, and the eight members of this conference said they didn't want to do it. They did not want to work with the Democrats and McCarthy in order to keep the government open. What he did is he went to the Democrats and got them to sign on the appropriations bill so the government wouldn't shut down. The government didn't shut down, but he basically got consequence for that. Now they won't. Some of them won't come out and say it. Some of them won't come out and say that he didn't play. You know, he didn't give me his marbles, so I'm not going to play with him. He didn't come out like that. Some of them put a lot of other excuses up front before, before all this happened, and then they gave them a segue when it was time to vote. We call it cover in the political world. They got some cover and that cover was that they went to Democrats to get the bills passed because they didn't want to go back to their constituents and say that they signed on to a budget bill with Democrats.

Speaker 3:

Now I'm concerned about the spending bills because, as you know, $33 trillion in debt. Now, if I owed $33 trillion man, I'll not probably pass out, but our country owes $33 trillion. That's how much in debt we are. The interest alone on $33 trillion guess what, ladies and gentlemen, is $430 billion. With a B a day, a day a day. $430 billion a day. That we've got that we're paying an interest. Now, by the time we get into the next cycle, that $430 billion is going to be almost $430 billion, as much as some of the appropriations for federal agencies. That's how much the interest is right now $430 billion.

Speaker 3:

And they fighting about bullshit down there and I said it. Yeah, I hope. Yeah, I said it. They, they down there fighting on some bullshit.

Speaker 3:

Now again, when it's time for a government shutdown, I wonder if their paychecks going to be stopped, because I think this should be stopped. I think their patients do. You don't want to work, you don't want to come to work, you can't solve your problems. Cut them paychecks. That's why I could never be president, because because if I were president, these clowns wouldn't get paid. I say you got a choice, you get this thing started, I'll get your stuff together. Are you ain't getting paid if the government shuts down? Plain and simple, you're not getting paid.

Speaker 3:

And some of them, cats up there, need that money. They do like that one cat from New York he had. He got indicted again. George, george, somebody to do with the big old glasses and the you know it looked like Mr Rogers on a heavy set side. That dude from New York, the dude who was doing all the lines that he I don't know you, you, you know who I'm talking about that dude need the money because he, he conned people out of money. So he need that $174, $174,000 a year just to make sure that he can get by. But I'm telling you, if they're not doing their job and the government closes, how about we shut their? We shut their paychecks out, we turn them off so they can see what it really feels like. And every day, america, we don't have the luxury to number one, not go to work like some of these. They're not at work, we don't have the luxury to do that, and a lot of people live paycheck to paycheck and they don't have the luxury to do what these folks are doing up here and mess with other people's lives. And that's what. That's what I see that they're doing.

Speaker 3:

You got eight people that decided that they're that they are more. They are more conservative or more. What have you than anybody else? Now, this isn't from me. This is what Newt Gingrich said. They are more righteous in their politics, in their ideology, than anybody else. That they have decided to cripple the government, cripple the con, the Congress. And now this is where we're at Still don't have a speaker.

Speaker 3:

Scalise has been nominated, 112 votes. That's all he got. I'm sorry, 113 votes. He needs to 112. Can he get it? I don't know. You got a lot of the caucus said they're not going to vote for him because it's not Jordan, and so we're going to continue to see this. So that's why some of these folks need to go. They do, they need to go and that's.

Speaker 3:

You know, I'm a term limit guy. Some people aren't for term limits because they say, you know, a person gets in and they get used to, they become a good at what they're doing. You know, politics was never designed for somebody to be in there full time every day for 30, 40 years. Was that one lady out in California, senator something? I forget her name? She just passed away. She was like 90 something years old. Thank you for your service, but maybe it's time for you to go home, you know? And how do we know that this job didn't kill her? Please, if I had to deal with this every day that these folks are doing, it would probably kill me too. Hey, everybody, this is wall black man. I hope you enjoyed that segment on the wall black mucho.

Speaker 3:

As we're talking about the speaker, we'll be back here tomorrow talking about what's going on in Israel.

Speaker 3:

We know a lot of people are talking that noise over there. We're hoping and we want to make sure we send our prayers to those folks who have been targeted, that are victims, that they've lost their families and they are still trying to find them. We want to make sure that we send our prayers, our heartfelt prayers, to those folks and that they're able to return home, and return home safely, and we hope that our government can actually step in and do some things that they need to do, because Israel is an ally to help them as they move forward. And let's not forget about the people in Ukraine and Ukraine and you know, I've been to combat, I've seen countries that have been tore up and it's not a good thing. Everybody, this is wall black man, and I will see you on the flip side. Remember, as I always say, if you are not part of the solution, you are definitely part of the problem. Take care, everybody, and we'll see you on the flip side.
