Mothers' Day Expectations Make Our Day
If the greeting Happy Mothers' Day evokes any negative emotions for you, you are not alone. No need to feel guilty about this, first of all. Like most holidays we have mixed emotions that come from high expectations, predisposed ideas about what should or should not happen and long-standing customs from our families and culture. With our thoughts, some of us are creating in our minds an attachment to certain rules of engagement that we've just made up in our minds, or we are focusing on loss or what we think "should" be. This is standard operating procedure for our brains, but also completely optional for us to agree to. In this episode we talk about a way to decide instead ahead of time HOW WE DO WANT TO FEEL and what thoughts we want to think in order to feel that way on Mothers' Day or any day! IF Mother's Day is a day you dread, but you wish you didn't, this episode is especially for you.
