00:00 - 00:04
Hello and good day. Welcome to the Super Good Camping podcast. My name is Pamela.

00:04 - 00:04
I'm Tim.

00:04 - 00:05
And we are from supergoodcamping.com.

00:06 - 00:10
We're here because we're on a mission to inspire other people to enjoy camping adventures such

00:10 - 00:11
as we have as a family.

00:12 - 00:17
And today, we just it's just Tim and I, and we're just gonna talk a little bit about what we've been

00:18 - 00:23
doing. Yeah. It's a basically, it's a a kind of a a catch up. We're back. Ketchup.

00:23 - 00:29
And, and and we'll we'll preview some of the some of the guests we're gonna have on this year.

00:29 - 00:32
So what did we do this year?

00:32 - 00:36
Well, I have not done any camping yet this year, but that's gonna change soon.

00:36 - 00:37
It is.

00:37 - 00:42
And we did go to a cottage for a week, up in the Muskokas, which is really beautiful.

00:42 - 00:45
We love it up there for camping or for cottaging.

00:46 - 00:52
And we did some boating, and we did some fishing, and somebody caught fish, somebody didn't catch any fish. And,

00:56 - 00:58
We did some swimming. We did some,

00:59 - 01:01
some hanging out and chilling stuff.

01:01 - 01:05
Chilling, sitting in the Muskoka chairs, looking at the lake.

01:05 - 01:07
Yep. Yep. And then reading.

01:07 - 01:09
What else did we play? Board games?

01:09 - 01:10
A little bit of board game.

01:10 - 01:11
Went to farmer's market.

01:11 - 01:17
Oh, we went over to so, we managed to when Thomas and I so okay.

01:17 - 01:25
Well, one of the other things we did was, Thomas and I went and did the, what's it called, lift lift and paddle? No. Paddle and lift?

01:26 - 01:27
Lock and paddle.

01:27 - 01:30
Lock and paddle. That's it in Peterborough, which is a very cool thing.

01:30 - 01:31
You should check it out.

01:33 - 01:39
And we managed to hook up with Corey from, Halliburton Paddle Shop because I have I'm sure I've talked about it before.

01:39 - 01:43
I I've got a paddle I made back when I was young enough to be in scouts.

01:44 - 01:49
And it was getting pretty binged up around the edges, and it was starting to get some water penetration in.

01:49 - 01:55
So I thought I was gonna end up having to, to strip it down and stuff, and it wasn't particularly interested in doing that.

01:55 - 01:57
So, Corey said he could fix it up for me.

01:58 - 02:05
I so we we met up with them, there and handed off the paddle, and and we because we were already

02:05 - 02:09
up in Muskoka, it wasn't that big of a deal to get over to his shop.

02:09 - 02:12
So an hour, hour and change, something like that. So we did. We went over.

02:12 - 02:16
It's my paddle is beautiful. It's no longer gloss.

02:16 - 02:19
It's it's a the satin finish to it looks fantastic.

02:19 - 02:27
It's just just and all the edges aren't beat to crap anymore. So that was cool. Smooth. Anyone else?

02:27 - 02:37
Oh, Thomas and I did a went with some 2 other people and did a a 8, 7, 7 night, 8 day in, in

02:37 - 02:44
Killarney, a sort of a sort of a loop around the the mountain that the the crack, is on.

02:45 - 02:47
That was, was an interesting experience.

02:49 - 02:50
That's that's all I will say.

02:50 - 02:54
It's always good to get outside, so that's that's it for that.

02:54 - 02:57
I've seen some beautiful photos from it.

02:57 - 02:59
Yeah. It was a mix of weather, though. Wow.

02:59 - 03:00
We had we had some downpours.

03:00 - 03:07
We had there was one point where it was raining so hard that in very short order, 15 minutes

03:07 - 03:12
maybe, there was more more water than I'd ever seen in a canoe that hadn't capsized.

03:12 - 03:15
I couldn't bail as fast as the water was coming down.

03:15 - 03:16
It was it was insane.

03:19 - 03:28
On the Halliburton Peddle Shop trip, we, went to the Wolf Center, which was, at Halliburton Forest, is it?

03:28 - 03:29
I think it's called Halliburton Forest.

03:29 - 03:32
Forest yeah. Reserve or preserver or something like that.

03:32 - 03:35
Right. And so, wolf center is really cool.

03:35 - 03:37
So if you get a chance to go there, it's it's pretty neat.

03:37 - 03:44
We, there's lots of, like, displays about wolves, and then there's a enclosure where you can,

03:44 - 03:46
through glass, you can see the wolves.

03:46 - 03:48
And we were fortunate enough that they were

03:48 - 03:49
hanging around yeah.

03:49 - 03:52
Hanging around outside the enclosure as we were as we were there.

03:52 - 03:54
So it was pretty neat to be able to see them up close like that.

03:54 - 04:00
Yeah. It's got a it's got a nice little center inside too where, you know, it describes whether

04:00 - 04:06
it's whether it's different types of birds, other types of, you know, like, rodents, other small

04:06 - 04:13
animals, what have you, in the that they would would find in their natural habitat. It was pretty cool.

04:13 - 04:18
Did you know that wolves can consume £20 of meat in one sitting?

04:19 - 04:25
I was just we went to the keg for Brenda's birthday recently, and I was looking at that and going, how?

04:25 - 04:29
Like, do you even force that much food into your because they can sometimes go long, long stretches

04:29 - 04:32
without eating, so they have to kind of gorge at once.

04:32 - 04:34
But Not our kids.

04:35 - 04:38
But but, yeah, £20 of meat all at once.

04:38 - 04:40
Yeah. And they don't I I so I happened to ask.

04:40 - 04:43
I didn't see any bowls of water or any, you know, natural

04:45 - 04:46
Springs or Yeah.

04:46 - 04:49
Or anything like that. And, apparently, they they really don't drink in between.

04:49 - 04:56
They get they get enough moisture from their eating to keep them going.

04:56 - 04:57
That's which is pretty wild.

04:57 - 04:58
Pretty neat.

04:58 - 05:06
There you go. I think that's pretty much all we've did this summer. We've did. We've did. We've did.

05:06 - 05:08
To use your words, Tim, good English.

05:09 - 05:14
We did, we are panelist panelist is actually gonna go go camping with me. He's dragging

05:14 - 05:16
me into the backcountry again.

05:16 - 05:19
We're gonna we're gonna take another shot at just a just a light duty one.

05:19 - 05:23
We're gonna go, I actually literally just booked it, today.

05:24 - 05:28
We're gonna do the, the Massasauga, 3 nights.

05:29 - 05:34
I think that's what I booked. Yeah. I don't care. Just go. Yeah. 3 nights easy.

05:34 - 05:42
You know, there's a it's a single portage, 300 some odd, meters, so pretty easy. Yeah.

05:42 - 05:47
Just hang out in our new tent.

05:47 - 05:51
And we hope it's going to be nice weather and not downpours And

05:52 - 05:55
And we don't care. We are happy to just be out there.

05:56 - 05:58
Somebody else might hope hope it's gonna be nice. Yeah.

05:58 - 06:01
And we'll see we'll see if we get lucky. Falls.

06:01 - 06:04
Fall's looking like it might be a little bit weird. It's kinda already started.

06:04 - 06:11
It's today today being Sunday, the what is it? 15th today? September 15th?

06:11 - 06:12
Something like that.

06:12 - 06:17
Something like that. Yeah. It's, like, 20 I think we're in a high of 26 degrees or 27 degrees

06:17 - 06:22
Celsius, which is pretty nuts for the middle of September. Yeah.

06:22 - 06:30
And and we what else do we so we got some new gear this year, not not a ton, not because we already own a ton. We I.

06:30 - 06:32
But we got had to get a new tent.

06:32 - 06:40
Thomas and I did a, I don't know if that was before we went into hiatus or or what.

06:41 - 06:50
We did so we did Thomas and I went and did a ORCA course, got our level 4, with, with Greg from the organic boat shop.

06:52 - 06:55
And then we went and did a a wilderness first aid.

06:55 - 07:03
It was like a 40 hours, 2 2 solid weekends, up in, oh, Albion Hills conservation area.

07:03 - 07:11
We took we took our our our trusty orange, black diamond tent, and I had resealed the seams

07:11 - 07:14
in it because I had noticed that they were peeling last year.

07:14 - 07:16
That's about the only place it didn't leak from.

07:16 - 07:19
So, we ended up having to buy a new tent.

07:19 - 07:20
I figured, you know what?

07:20 - 07:24
We'll get we'll get one that's that's lighter and, you know, we'll upscale a little bit.

07:24 - 07:27
So we bought a I couldn't tell you what model it is.

07:27 - 07:30
It's a 3 man, Nemo tent.

07:32 - 07:34
Ridiculous amount of money, just for the record.

07:34 - 07:36
But, man, it weighs nothing.

07:36 - 07:41
It's it's it's incredibly, incredibly light. Feels feels pretty durable.

07:41 - 07:47
I'll do a review on it at some point, but we're gonna we'll take that on our backcountry trip.

07:47 - 07:50
And and I literally just bought

07:53 - 07:57
Eureka Eureka No Bug Zone, through Amazon.

07:57 - 07:58
They had them on sale.

07:58 - 08:07
And, Dennis Canoe Hounds, Dennis Rogers, he he had, I don't know what you call it, an associate

08:07 - 08:08
link or something like that.

08:08 - 08:14
But he he gets he makes a couple of nickels off of it, and it doesn't cost me anymore. So there you go.

08:14 - 08:18
I use that as totally as an excuse to go and buy the bug no bugs on.

08:18 - 08:23
Also, more reason to get the young lady out with me because she's a bit of a bug magnet.

08:23 - 08:25
Not that I expected to see any in in October.

08:28 - 08:34
And then we've got some of our returning guests that we that we love, and we've got some new people coming.

08:34 - 08:43
Yeah. We do. We've got, so the next episode that will air is, Woody Ellis. Pretty cool dude.

08:43 - 08:46
He's got a a thing called Woody Walks.

08:46 - 08:53
He's doing a trek 2,000 plus miles, in order to raise awareness and and and money for charities

08:54 - 08:56
related to mental health, which is a fabulous thing.

08:56 - 09:01
We it's close close to certainly close to our our hearts.

09:02 - 09:04
Man, we oh, you know what?

09:04 - 09:10
We might we might even try to do a, a live stream at some point or or maybe 2 if it's successful. I don't know.

09:11 - 09:17
Any any if you have any suggestions along that because I don't know when we would we try to

09:17 - 09:21
not interfere with other people's livestreams, so I don't know what day we try to do it.

09:21 - 09:29
But if you have any suggestions, shoot us an email, hi at supergoodcamping.com. That's hi@supergoodcamping.com. That's my wife.

09:29 - 09:31
You're here at your job now.

09:33 - 09:39
Or you can, if you happen to be listening to us on Spotify, I don't know exactly how the deal

09:39 - 09:42
works, but you can text us and we can actually respond to that one.

09:43 - 09:52
Or you can send us a text on Buzzsprout as well, but we can only respond to it by taping it into the next episode.

09:52 - 09:56
I still haven't I'm still not loving that, but whatever. Yeah.

09:56 - 10:03
We're gonna talk to we've I've loose we've loosely set up a lot of things. We haven't booked them.

10:03 - 10:05
We've only got well, camper Christina, we've got her booked.

10:05 - 10:09
She's we're gonna tape her episode, this coming week.

10:09 - 10:12
She'll air in 2 or 3 weeks probably.

10:12 - 10:17
And, Dennis, Dennis Rogers, is gonna come have a yak with us.

10:17 - 10:25
And then and then, you know, we're I'm hoping to do a bunch of we we talked to Tory Baird, Paddle like a girl. Oh, man.

10:25 - 10:31
I can't even I think Rob from in the outside, we were talking about some other activities, not

10:31 - 10:35
just necessarily backcountry camping, that you might do.

10:37 - 10:46
Oh, I'm hoping we can get couple of campers or, yeah, couple of campers, Nate and Jen on. Tyler from Kamp Kitch.

10:47 - 10:56
I spoke to Cliff Jacobson, who's who's kind of I I always liken him to, like, the Americans

10:56 - 11:02
version of Kevin Callen or or or, you know, like, some some sort of thing like that. He's extremely knowledgeable.

11:06 - 11:07
What else we're gonna do?

11:07 - 11:16
Oh, I also am hoping we're gonna we can have a have a yak with so we've done we do the Toronto, Outdoor Adventure Show.

11:16 - 11:27
We do an episode with Fred every year, and I'm hoping there's a there's a new show coming, the Hamilton Adventure Expo.

11:27 - 11:36
It's it looks like it's probably a little more specialized in in that sort of backcountry or adventure sort of thing.

11:37 - 11:40
So I'm hoping we can have a yak with them at some point.

11:41 - 11:43
And maybe we'll end up going to some of these.

11:45 - 11:54
What? Maybe. That's I've already booked my time off work to go, man. Yeah. I don't know.

11:54 - 11:56
That's that's probably about it for me.

11:56 - 11:57
Yeah. I think that's it for us for today.

11:57 - 12:00
Alright. Cool. So there you go.

12:00 - 12:03
We're back and, We're back. Yeah.

12:03 - 12:05
New episodes coming out shortly.

12:05 - 12:14
For the after our record breaking 1st season in terms of duration, endurance. Yeah.

12:14 - 12:15
This one may not be quite as long.

12:15 - 12:17
It won't be 3 and a half years long.

12:17 - 12:19
I can I can guarantee that?

12:19 - 12:21
They I I will be completely honest.

12:21 - 12:22
I was getting pretty burnt out.

12:22 - 12:27
Just life in general, between work, the podcast is quite a bit of work.

12:27 - 12:33
And and because I had so many guest episodes sitting in the bank, they're they're they're they

12:33 - 12:37
take a lot more work, a lot more time, to edit and and publish and whatnot.

12:38 - 12:41
So we're not gonna do that this this time.

12:41 - 12:45
This is probably gonna be I would hazard it's gonna be a 9 or 10 months run for this one and

12:45 - 12:48
we'll take probably take the summer off again.

12:49 - 12:50
And I won't be yeah.

12:50 - 12:56
We I I will try be trying to put out 2 or 3 weeks tops from the time we record somebody, like

12:56 - 12:59
a guest episode, to the time that we air that episode.

13:00 - 13:03
So it's be I'm gonna gonna pace myself a little bit this year.

13:03 - 13:06
We'll see if I may I may not. I'm I'm an idiot.

13:06 - 13:08
I may just go, ah, it's fine. It's fine.

13:10 - 13:13
Alright. On that note, that's it for us for today.

13:14 - 13:15
