Spiral Dynamics- The Graves Theory of Consciousness
Hello my friends, and welcome back to episode #5 of The Conscious Café! This week we are diving deep into our first theory of consciousness on the show- Spiral Dynamics! First developed in the 1950s by psychologist Clare Graves, Spiral Dynamics was originally proposed as a way to categorize people based on their pattern of thinking, rather than their personality.
As it was first used, Spiral Dynamics was created to apply in managerial or business scenarios. However, when you look at the model, you can see how it is a spirituality and consciousness playground.
Spiral Dynamics is composed of eight colors (or 'V-memes') that each correspond to a different level of consciousness. These levels play out both on an individual level and a societal level. Each level alternates between being focused on the individual ('I') or the group ('us').
I hope you love the episode as much as I loved recording it! I've included some links below to great articles, and a book, on Spiral Dynamics in case you are more of a reader.
