Jana Shelfer:

Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®.

Jason Shelfer:

Good morning.

Jana Shelfer:

We had such a wonderful experience yesterday.

Jason Shelfer:

At Backyard Farm Fresh.

Jana Shelfer:

We had no idea what we were in for. In fact, I had to Google what is aquaponics?

Jason Shelfer:

I wasn't sure if it was aquaponics or hydroponics.

Jana Shelfer:

We were so ignorant going into this. In fact, we had no idea why we were even going there.

Jason Shelfer:

I just knew it was above ground farming with water and I just wasn't sure if there were going to be fish or no fish. But I also didn't know, if it was, what the difference was.

Jana Shelfer:

Jason knows Mark Pester from his dream builders group and Mark Pester, his dream was to start aquaponics farms all over the world which does involve fish.

Jana Shelfer:

And we found that to be curious, because we always want to support people in their dreams. And then we happened to talk to Mark Pester at a party that we were at to support another friend, and as we started to talk to him we got a little more curious about okay, well, what is this all about? And oh, this sounds interesting. We're into health and we were doing our whole gut microbiome testing and so we kind of leaned in a little. More Tell us, more Tell us more.

Jana Shelfer:

Those are the three magic words. Tell us more.

Jason Shelfer:

So you've got some nutrient-rich vegetables on your farm, yes, Tell us more.

Jana Shelfer:

And then the magic, the real magic words were would you care if we came to check it out? And he gave us the invite.

Jason Shelfer:

Let me see what you do.

Jana Shelfer:

Yes, and so we decided all right, well, let's make this into an episode for our new upcoming show and let's go just get curious about aquaponics.

Jason Shelfer:

Yeah, and it was, it was magical to me.

Jana Shelfer:

Oh my gosh. We came away not only learning, growing, but the most important thing for me was that I made a connection with some amazing people. I learned so much about Mark and Rose who owns the land. I felt like God put us in the right place at the right time, meeting the right people, and it just felt divine.

Jason Shelfer:

It almost feels like our family grew and they're right in our backyard.

Jana Shelfer:

And you know, what's so interesting is it felt to me like we were going to learn about the land and how this all works and I came away, my soul grew. Oh yes, Would you agree? Absolutely. It felt like we had deep conversations that nourished my spirit.

Jason Shelfer:

Spirit and really about the way life works.

Jana Shelfer:

Because it all reflects.

Jason Shelfer:

Yes.

Jana Shelfer:

It all reflects and it feels to me there's so many lessons in everything that they're doing.

Jason Shelfer:

Relationships.

Jana Shelfer:

That reflects to life.

Jason Shelfer:

Connections Soul, like everything.

Jana Shelfer:

The ecosystem, everything, it just all is connected it's all one.

Jason Shelfer:

It was oneness. That was the exact word. That was coming to my mind was just oneness, and that's what it was. I just got goosebumps, literally from my toes all the way up through the top of my head so let's start from the beginning, because if you were like I was yesterday, you're going.

Jana Shelfer:

I have no idea what jan was talking about.

Jason Shelfer:

Aquaponics is really it's how it's where you sing without any instruments no, no, no, let's don't confuse people.

Jana Shelfer:

How would you explain it, jason?

Jason Shelfer:

aquaponics is a growing ecosystem where you involve fish that nutrient, that uh, that provide nutrients into water. That water is used to irrigate um a the water supply for.

Jana Shelfer:

The soil.

Jason Shelfer:

No soils used. Okay, well, the plants? Yeah. So all the plants that are suspended above the water and their roots literally just dangle in the water supply and then all that nutrient rich water just goes into their roots and then they grow. And they grow big and healthy, like all the vegetables, the broccoli, the kale, the cucumbers, the peppers, the tomatoes. All of it is just so rich, nutrient, dense and just amazingly tasty.

Jana Shelfer:

Oh my gosh, we were eating like we had no idea that we were going to go there for kale and coffee. We had no idea that we were going to go up and down the aisles and eat peppers and cucumbers and all sorts of things right off the vine fish are happy and healthy and they are like they are in the schooling mentality.

Jason Shelfer:

Yeah, they're just swimming around and the difference clean. When he was telling us about too few fish they compete, too many fish they compete but the right amount of fish they school it's just like goldilocks you know, oh, this porridge is too hot, this porridge is too cold, this porridge is just right it was. It was the whole environment in the ecosystem there is pretty amazing. And then the way they use anything that's left over feeds chickens, feeds goats.

Jana Shelfer:

I mean they have a whole grocery store.

Jason Shelfer:

Yeah, it's incredible.

Jana Shelfer:

Which that is the idea is eventually. I mean they're building these farms all over the world, I mean Australia.

Jason Shelfer:

This is farm number 11.

Jana Shelfer:

This is number 11, but they have many in the works and the ones that are coming up are having restaurants and education systems or centers that will be built in so people can learn and actually then go and build them themselves Living Lucky Studios in there when we can speak it is. It was just absolutely amazing. And then learning Mark's story, because he was actually in marketing, he was just a I don't want to say just a marketing person. He was a marketing person and he gets this download from God that says you know it's time for you.

Jason Shelfer:

There's something bigger and better for you.

Jana Shelfer:

Yes.

Jason Shelfer:

Get out of the boat.

Jana Shelfer:

Right Trust. Yeah, for him it was it was get out of the boat and walk on water. And he's like, oh my gosh, I'm a marketing person. How I know nothing about what you're saying and he just followed his calling. And you know, so many times we have an intuition or we have that little voice, that little whisper inside. So many times we ignore it or so many times we're inconvenienced by it. We want to stay comfortable. We either want to stay comfortable or we're too busy being busy.

Jason Shelfer:

Yeah, well, this is what I know. I'm comfortable with this level of discomfort.

Jana Shelfer:

So we don't follow this voice. However, it's that voice that is willing to make us great. It's that voice that is willing to change the world. It's that voice that is willing to take us to the extraordinary.

Jason Shelfer:

It's that voice that when we feel like we get up and do things every single day and then we wonder if we're mattering and all we feel like is I just want to matter, and it's that voice that says, hey, if I'll lean into this, I know I'm going to matter. Hey, if I'll lean into this, I know I'm going to matter. But I also feel like it's going to be more uncomfortable no-transcript.

Jana Shelfer:

And when you do follow that voice, there's going to be a journey.

Jason Shelfer:

There's going to be a new level of discomfort.

Jana Shelfer:

Yes, because for Mark it was telling his wife hey, here's my idea. Guess what? I'm no longer going to be in marketing. I am going to build aquaponic farms all over the world. I'm going to feed the nation with nutrient rich foods and guess what?

Jason Shelfer:

The level of security, that income that we were used to is not going to be available anymore. We're going to be reliant on this new project that I'm working on and we're going to be on faith.

Jana Shelfer:

Now for all you married folk out there, how do you think that conversation really went?

Jason Shelfer:

That's a fart in church is what it is, that's a turd in the punch bowl.

Jana Shelfer:

I mean.

Jason Shelfer:

I just know from, we were there.

Jana Shelfer:

I just know from Jason and I, when it comes to paying the bills on faith, that can sometimes I mean in public we can say, oh yeah, we got this, oh yeah, I support you, honey. And even if we say that out loud in our inside our heads, sometimes it can be a little more.

Jason Shelfer:

You're fighting the doubt, you're fighting the fear.

Jana Shelfer:

Yeah, because every time you go. Well, you know I really want to go get my nails done, but my husband, they don't take faith there. Is starting an aquaponics farm? No, and I'm not.

Jason Shelfer:

And this is just me, but that's real. Pretending in my.

Jana Shelfer:

That's the real deal yeah.

Jason Shelfer:

So I'm not saying this is Mark's story.

Jana Shelfer:

Yeah, so I'm not saying this is Mark's story. I'm just pretending in my head Well, $100 nail doesn't work. Like me, getting a massage for $130 doesn't happen when you're making that transition, so I'm just putting a realness to when your spouse decides to.

Jana Shelfer:

When your spouse decides to follow a dream because this happened in Jason in my life I was the one that said I'm doing this. And at first Jason was all for it. He's like, yeah, you go, you go. And he was still in the corporate world and he was like, yeah, you know, I'll be the provider, I'm secure and where I'm at. And then I saw how miserable he was and I said you know what? You? You're just as bad. Yeah, you gotta jump with me in the pool. Yeah, because you can do it, because I'm I'm flying out here and I can't fly without you. So we gotta both jump, both jump. And then we both jumped and now we both were flying without a net Bring out the ramen noodles. And now we're both paying the bills on faith. And then, when it came to, we both were like we need a massage, we just want someone to clean the house, we need a new car.

Jason Shelfer:

When you stick with it.

Jana Shelfer:

Yes.

Jason Shelfer:

You keep going, you keep going and you get through that growth.

Jason Shelfer:

You do, you keep you just keep swimming, sometimes the seed, when you, when you live in the faith and when you allow the space for that growth to happen yes, and when you are mattering, when you're living in that faith and that purpose, when the seed breaks through and you break through the top of the soil I know that we're talking about aquaponics right now and there's no soil but when that seed breaks through and you get to the sunlight, there's some growth that happens in there, that starts a whole new life and that life is powerful. So, mark and Backyard Farm Fresh they're on farm number 11 right now.

Jana Shelfer:

And it just is growing.

Jason Shelfer:

I mean, they have seeds for up to farm number 15. They were talking about farm number 15 right now, which is going to be incredible, and we're going to do another TV episode on farm number 15 when that gets completed, because I really want to do a show in that completely accessible um facility yeah, because they're gonna have a restaurant oh yeah, and we want to eat, and I want to eat, we want to sit down and eat with a chef making the food. That's right I love tasting. I mean, let's get real we like.

Jason Shelfer:

We like the four star it was delicious, right off the vine, not even needing to get washed.

Jana Shelfer:

Oh my gosh, it was, I was, but I want to go vine to chef, to table, to my plate, to my mouth no, I was eating a tomato and it was dripping down my chin and I didn't care, like I I did not care. And then I was on camera and I had. I had kale in my teeth and Jason was. He was giving me the signal Like you got kale in your teeth. I was like I don't care, we're here at the blah, blah, blah and I did not even care that I had, like, green stuff in my teeth. It was so awesome and I am just so grateful for the opportunity to learn to grow and, like I said, we had some deep conversations. Once the cameras turned off, it felt like we were meant to be there.

Jason Shelfer:

Yeah, well, that's part of living lucky is the right people the right opportunities in the right timing are going to show up in your life when you are aligned with your desires and your actions and your divine purpose.

Jana Shelfer:

And it just felt like he had the right wisdom to I know give to me in the perfect moment that I needed it, like some things that I was struggling with inside my soul. He just spoke to me, he spoke to my heart and then, at the very end, he just happened to mention a friend of his and I said that's our next episode. So it just feels like the breadcrumbs are leading us to exactly where we need to go and we just need to trust. We just need to trust that we're going to be fed.

Jana Shelfer:

And we'll keep bringing it to you, to trust that we're going to be fed and we'll keep bringing it to you. Oh, I love it. I love it Aquaponics. It really really just opened my mind to new ways of thinking, new ways of eating new ways of planting seeds and new ways of growing.

Jason Shelfer:

You know, what's funny about this farm is it uses 2% of the water. It'll produce 10 tons of vegetables this year on. I think it's half an acre of land.

Jana Shelfer:

It just feels like it's a win-win-win in so many ways.

Jason Shelfer:

It is.

Jana Shelfer:

And once we learned about it, it feels like why aren't we doing?

Jason Shelfer:

more of this. It's 47 feet by 100 feet and it produces 10 tons of vegetables and uses 2% of the water that the land would have used.

Jana Shelfer:

I feel blessed. Have a great day. Thanks for joining us. Bye-bye.
