Jewel Staite
Jewel Staite was five-years-old when an agent stopped her and her mom walking through a mall. Did the girl want to be in a TV commercial, the agent asked? Staite had no interest until her mom suggested that if she did it, she'd buy her some new outfits with the money.
And she's been working in TV and films ever since.
Mainly, she's been doing sci-fi shows that became cult favourites with fans, including Firefly with fellow Canadian Nathan Fillion, the spinoff feature "Serenity," and Stargate Atlantis. Since then, she's starred in The LA Complex, had a recurring role opposite Joel Kinnaman on The Killing and starred in the feature, "How to Have an Orgy in a Small Town."
Her latest project is Family Law. Global's new Friday night drama is set and shot in Vancouver and stars Staite as Abigail Bianchi, a once promising lawyer who hits rock bottom after another booze binge until only one firm is willing to take a chance on her -- her father's. He's played by Victor Garber, and the two and the rest of the cast have already completed work on the series' first two seasons.
Staite also shares what she's watching now, sings a bit of her all-time favourite TV theme song and answers whether or not she'd encourage her own five-year-old to get into the biz.
