Natural remedies for Kidney stone | Dr. Pratim Sengupta

DR.PRATIM SENGUPTA Season 3 Episode 24

Kidney stones can be a painful condition, and while natural remedies may help alleviate some symptoms or aid in the prevention of kidney stones, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment. Here are a few natural remedies that may be considered:

  1. Hydration: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help flush out the kidneys and dilute urine, which can reduce the risk of stone formation. Aim for at least 8-10 glasses of water daily, or more if advised by your doctor.
  2. Lemon juice: Citric acid present in lemons may help prevent kidney stone formation. Squeeze fresh lemon juice into a glass of water and drink it regularly. However, if you have a history of calcium oxalate stones, consult your doctor before increasing your citrus intake.
  3. Dietary modifications: Depending on the type of kidney stones you have, dietary changes may be beneficial. For instance, if you have calcium oxalate stones, reducing the intake of foods high in oxalates, such as spinach, rhubarb, beetroot, and nuts, may be recommended. If you have uric acid stones, limiting purine-rich foods like organ meats, shellfish, and beer can be helpful.
  4. Physical activity: Regular exercise and physical activity can contribute to overall kidney health. It helps improve blood circulation, maintain a healthy weight, and reduce the risk of certain health conditions that may contribute to kidney stone formation.

Remember, natural remedies should not replace medical treatment. If you suspect you have kidney stones or have been diagnosed with them, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and guidance on the most appropriate treatment options for your specific situation.
