This summer we are doing a series called Mindset Camp. It will be made up of mostly simple, thought-provoking episodes to give you something short + sweet to take action on right away!

Today is Episode 9 of that series.

What do you do when you’re feeling overwhelmed?

The conventional thinking is that there are three main reactions to feeling overwhelmed: fight, flight, or freeze.

This makes sense, but when you’re in the thick of overwhelm, this kind of information doesn’t do you much good.

In today’s episode, I’ll share with you a simple phrase to repeat to yourself whenever you feel overwhelmed and stressed.

This episode is the ninth and final episode in our summer Mindcamp series. In this 5 minute episode, you’ll learn what to say to yourself when you’re being extra hard on yourself, overwhelmed, and frustrated.

As you learn to calm your mind…

  • stress will reduce and
  • you’ll know how to soothe your heart as well as your jangled nerves, and
  • you’ll shift your approach to the situations that have you feeling overwhelmed.

Get ready for a simple, easy, effective way to take yourself from feeling overwhelmed to feeling better in minutes.

Enjoy!

Speaker 1:

I'm Carla Reeves, and this is Differently. What if you worried less about the bumps in the road and instead got equipped for the journey? Get ready to rethink what's possible. Summer is here and for the summer, here on the podcast, we are doing something a little different. This summer series will be made up of mostly simple, short, thought provoking episodes to give you something short and sweet to apply right to your life. We will talk mindset, productivity, relationships and more.

Speaker 1:

If you're finding summer slipping by way too fast with a whole lot of doing, may today's episode be a reminder to slow down, let go of the urgency. I'm a firm believer that you can build the feeling of summer right into your life with consistent effort over time, and we've created Mindset Camp to spread some simple thinking tools to help you start living at the steering wheel of your life. Today's episode is a client favorite and just a simple prescription that you can use again and again when you feel stressed and overwhelmed. Your prescription is release pressure, apply love. We have a tendency to be very hard on ourselves and place enormous amounts of pressure that weigh us down and slow our mobility. When you find yourself overwhelmed, remember that you have the ability to step back. Apply love and remove pressure, which will allow you to feel better and move more freely. There's a quote that I love that says we all carry a load. The heavy is in our head, meaning that sense of urgency and pressure that we feel is often fabricated in our mind and unnecessary. Continuing down that road makes us feel frantic and hurried and already behind. Take a moment to check in and discern for yourself. I often ask myself this question what is real urgency and what urgency have I fabricated? That isn't necessary. Have I fabricated? That isn't necessary? This releases pressure and then applying love helps to shift my entire approach, which helps me to pause, breathe deeper, remember the big picture and reset my course of action, and the outcome is always far better than muscling through stressed and overwhelmed. You know, when we were raising our boys, this was super helpful in parenting. I saw early on that my role as their parent was not to add pressure. They did plenty of that on their own. My role was to help remove pressure so that they could move more freely. So this can be applied to yourself and others.

Speaker 1:

As you know, we're all about using writing as a tool to navigate your life. So when you're in a place to do so, grab a sheet of paper or open a Google Doc and ask yourself these questions when are you placing unnecessary pressure on yourself? And what becomes possible when you release pressure and apply love? Repeat practice, repeat practice.

Speaker 1:

You know I'm here in my studio just me, my microphone and my hopes and prayers that this content you're hearing is making a difference in your life. Speaker 1:

Stay tuned and, in the meantime, remember release pressure, apply love a prescription you can use again and again. Apply Love a prescription you can use again and again. Thank you for tuning in to this episode of Differently. It's been an honor to share this conversation with you. You know, one of the keys to living fully is to take action when you're inspired to do so. I hope you found that spark of inspiration today and would you help us spread the word.
