Good morning, good afternoon or good evening wherever you are in the world today. Welcome to the Mass Timber Construction Podcast. My name is Paul Kramer, your host, and welcome to another week of exciting Mass Timber Construction news. Don't forget to hit the subscribe button so you never miss an episode, and we will be bringing you the news around the world each week, as it happens.

Speaker 1:

Let's have a look at what's making news around the world this week in mass timber construction land. Well, we do know that the news continues to still come in around BC's change with the height of mass timber construction buildings and also the 25 story mass timber constructed buildings and also the 25-story mass timber rental project that's happening at M5. But on top of that, we actually know that there is a lot of buzz around mass timber hybrid structures for high-rise and there is a hybrid tall timber, mass timber residential high-rise study which highlights the potential for mass timber specialists in the residential space in densely populated urban environments. If you'd like to read that particular study, it is on our mass timber construction journal linkedin feed and you'll be able to head straight there and find it. Interestingly, also the structural timber association and anthony thistleton, who's part of the Mass Timber Construction Journal, linkedin feed. Or you can go to structuraltimbercouk structuraltimbercouk and check out all of the news that is around that particular event. And to the US now, and there's growing support bipartisan support for a bill to boost mass timber construction across north america and a news release that's come out talking about the mass timber federal buildings act, which would create an incentive for the use of mass timber building materials by providing a preference in federal building contracts for mass timber products. This will give mass timber companies the ability to compete at a federal construction, renovation or acquisition of public buildings and military construction project level. The bill creates two-tier contracting preferences for mass timber. If you'd like to read more about the Mass Timber Federal Bill Act, you can go straight to the Mass timber construction journal linkedin feed.

And launched at the international mass timber conference, structure craft have released the branch 3d, a next generation of structural design and manufacturing software built by an incredibly talented team. In the lead was lucas epp, who hopefully I'll have on the show very soon to have a chat about this. The engine behind this is able to allow you to build structures resizing thousands of elements in real time as you change, massing grid lines, fire rating and enabling real-time cost and carbon feedback. The power of grasshopper sits behind this. Using custom built logic and the groundbreaking parametric object in Rhino, which embeds the grasshopper script within it to create a true family object, for Rhino provides you with a real-time structural analysis, revolutionizing the early stage feedback on building feasibility. It has open source collaboration with the development and analysis, the design algorithms and if you are in the market for looking at this, you can go and have a look at the software development on our LinkedIn page, where there is a video as well, or get in touch with StructureCraft.

Speaker 1:

And moving to France, and the Bordenares School in France becomes the first project completed using Stora Enzo's automated coating line for CLT. The production line is leveling up protection for mass timber against moisture, uv radiation and insects. The 2,150 cubic meter school designed by Form 6 or Forma 6, was constructed by making use of St Store Enzo's prefabricated kit of parts called Sylvia. The first time ever, these parts were automatically pre-coated with hydrophobic protection against moisture in a newly automated production line in Store Enzo's mills in Austria since the beginning of this year, and the coatings are applied as a prefabrication of the components to help streamline on-site construction, protect mass timber elements and increase the speed of projects.

Speaker 1:

And finally on the show, the museum's mass timber semester lecture series, which brings together key voices in mass timber movement to reflect its short history, current condition and promising future, holds an in-person event in Manhattan. Over the past decade, lever and Shop have continued to explore mass timber On the West Coast. Lever is completing several large-scale commissions, including the Adidas headquarters expansion in Portland and also the Shop's portfolio, which includes the tech headquarters across two continents in the headquarters of YouTube in San Marino in California and the award winning Atlassian in central Sydney. You can hear more about those projects if you go along to the event. Details on our Mass Timber Construction Journal LinkedIn feed. So that's it, folks. That's what we've got time for this week construction journal LinkedIn feed. So that's it, folks. That's what we've got time for this week.
