Let's have a look at what's making news around the world this week. In mass timber construction land, there's some news out this week from intelligent city, which consider themselves to be a new generation in industrialized construction and advanced manufacturing, and it's marching towards a carbon-neutral future. According to the spokesperson, they've commenced manufacturing of certified building systems compliant with high-rise mass timber building codes using AI through data integration, software automation and advanced robotics. With only a few months to go and the timber aquatic center in paris is ready for the 2024 olympics.

The construction of the new Aquatic Centre, designed by Venhoven CS and Ateliers 234, featuring an undulating timber appearance, has reached completion and awaits its debut at the Paris Olympics. The Aquatic Centre is one of the only permanent buildings constructed for major sport events, which begins on the 26th of July. The Aquatic Centre is a world-winning multifunctional design that aims to create a memorable experience for games and leave a lasting legacy for the neighbourhood and beyond to promote healthy lifestyle beyond the games. The building will be open and transparent, offering for a range of indoor and outdoor sports. Through the Aquatic Centre, people can come together and enjoy the leisure activities and also bridge themselves between different cultures and districts. And to Portland now. An eight-storey 72,000 square foot mass timber apartment building in Portland topped out this winter and will soon be available for 100 affordable units. We have spoken about this particular project before glulam beams, column CLT floor plates and steel frame brace system, and utilizes a five inch ply CLT floor plate, which is two hour fire rated and the height of steel ceramic braced frames for the lateral system. The building's exposed mass timber design will allow residents and those passing by to see the beauty of the mass timber inside and outside. And why? How's? The company has partnered with faye jones school of architecture and design at the? U of a for a new research fellows program that supports the development of innovative wood products and sustainable-based construction. The newly formed Research Fellows Program includes two simultaneous applied research and design units at the? U of A. One is focused on prototyping in 3D printed wood composite house and the other on engineering mass timber to support three common housing typologies important for rural communities. The two-year program expands on the previously established partnership between Weyerhaeuser and Fay Jones School and will run through 2025. It directly supports Weyerhaeuser's three by 30 sustainability ambitions, and work advancing in the future for everyone has been to quality, affordability and sustainability in homes for all.
