Let's have a look at what's making news around the world this week in mass timber construction land. And the big news this week is the announcement that you can have a look inside Google's head office. Now Google's head office is made of mass timber and there is an amazing video which walks through the project so you can have a look at it. It talks about all the sustainability benefits of using bio-based materials wood materials, natural daylighting, the use of biophilic treatments, the well-being, the performance and the increased aesthetic that is created from having cross laminated and glue laminated timber within the building. If you'd like to check out more, please head to our LinkedIn feed to see the videos, and there's a couple of articles as well, with some amazing photos. And Timber House kicks off its mission to advance wood construction in europe, aiming to slash the built environment carbon footprint. And in early november, timber house the research and innovation project, kicked off in copenhagen. It was led by danish technology institute and timber house aims to significantly reduce co2 in the construction sector, which is responsible for about 40 percent of global CO2 emissions when you consider operational carbon as well. Despite its recognized climate and carbon benefits, widespread adoption of timber materials is still slow and Timberhouse seeks to accelerate this with the uptake in construction, harnessing potential current underutilized wood species, post-consumer wood to create sustainable, high-performance construction products and designs.

To Germany Now, and an innovation factory by Hellebron, by Vekler. Vekler consists of a cube with scaled glass facade is reflected on the water where it's located, with a striking white glazed timber construction, v-shaped column and clear, visible use of transparent materials in the baffle palette to the double facade. And the architecture of the new business incubator is intended to radiate sustainability, engineering skills and inventiveness inside the cube. It creates spaces for startups of different sizes to achieve even better results and is part of the architect's idea to make grouped workspaces around a five-story atrium. Tea rooms in the galleries encourage dialogue and the fire protection concept with sprinkler system allows transparent views through to the building. The eight-meter-deep column-free office are spanned by prefabricated timber composite ceilings and the timber frames of the external walls, using V columns to stiffen them, and the delivery of the site is prefabde. And look at the Innovation Factory article. Detailde. And look at the Innovation Factory article.

In Peru have created wooden pergolas that fuel a 700 square meter courtyard behind a neoclassic mansion in the district, near the home of the headquarters of the French Cultural Association, allianz Francisca de Lima. Standing over 7 metres tall and attaching a roofline of its neighbouring building. It was given heritage status in 2007 and the contemporary shelter now aims to give the association a new presence on the street and act as a meeting place for people in the French Peruvian community. The building consists of a structure that's covered with fixed translucent carbonate sheets, protects the space from the sun and the rain, but features amazing red glulam structures that shine as a bold contrast in the pavilion area. That creates a dialogue between the neighboring community and the height and the rhythm of the vertical elements within the building. According to the report on Dazeen, if you'd like to have a look at more at K&M Architectures' pergola that has a historic building in Peru attached to it, please head to our LinkedIn feed or to the Dazeen magazine online.

But just as a reminder, the new commercial timber guide handbook launched in the uk is a collaboration between property developers, insurers, technical experts and set to launch the uk's first commercial timber guidebook. The guidebook is an initiative by Elliot Wood of Warthysselton Architects, ofr Consultants, working with specialist insurance companies, lignum Risk Partners to engage in the wider sector. The project kickstarted with £200,000 as a grant from Built by Nature. The guidebook aims to drive the adoption of timber by demonstrating both its technical viability and its insurability. The project team worked directly with architects, developers and engineers to create a consensus of good practice on how to incorporate structural timber into new buildings. The guidebook has input from the country's leading fire engineers, resulting in unprecedented cross-industry consensus around how to achieve fire safety in timber office buildings of various typologies. If you'd like to see more, you can head to the UK First Commercial Timber Guidebook, or you can go to the Build by Nature site and have a look at the project. You can download and register it, and Timber Development UK is also another place you can go to go and grab the guide.
