Being a Third Culture Kid.....with Doni Aldine
Sep 24, 2021 Episode 27
Lisa Mulligan

Doni Aldine and I recorded this episode when she had just returned to her home in Denver Colarado from what she called “Adult Summer Camp”, in Peru and Chile. Basically a working holiday.  I was in Singapore during “heighted restrictions” when we were only allowed to be out with or have 2 people over for dinner. It’s fair to say I was a little envious of her getting to travel.

Doni, is the CEO & Founder of Culturs Global a Multi-Cultural, Philanthropic, Lifestyle Media Company.  Doni’s business Culturs celebrates cross-cultural and intersectional identity and focuses on 21st Century Diversity, She has consulted on multiculturalism and diversity for companies like Coca-Cola, Warner Bros, and Turner Network Television and has presented around the globe as a Keynote, at conferences, universities & in media. She is also on faculty at Colorado State University.

We talked a lot about culture and specifically about her experiences being a third culture kid and the lessons learned traveling the globe!

I had heard the term Third Culture Kids, because my kids are ones. They are being raised in a culture and country different to the ones that my husband and I were raised in,and are being exposed to a greater variety of cultural influences and experiences than if they had grown up in Australia.

What I didn’t know is that there is all sorts of different third culture or cross cultural kids. For example you could be a military brat, or a missionary kid, or a global nomad. Not only has Doni lived many of these but she has studied the advantages and challenges growing up in a global community.
