What can we do to improve life for blind people and their guide dogs?

Animal Therapies Ltd
More than 500,000 people in Australia are legally blind or vision impaired, yet only 5% of those have access to a guide dog due to a shortfall in funding. For those fortunate enough to receive a guide dog, they face multiple challenges on a daily basis, including being rejected by taxi and Uber drivers, turned away from retail outlets, and often sidelined in the rental market.

There have been gains however, as our two guests point out in this month's podcast, brought to you by Animal Therapies Ltd.

Michael Hutchison discusses his journey after losing his sight in 2015 and the enormous difference that his two guide dogs - first, Roy, and more recently Stirling - have made to his life.

We are also joined by Sally Raphael, marketing and fund raising executive for See Differently with the Royal Society for the Blind. Sally provides some insights into the main issues that guide dog handlers experience and how the community and businesses can make life easier for the visually impaired.
