Patience

I’ve been waiting for something my whole life: Patience.

I’m kinda like the doctor who answered the question, “How can you be happier?” He said, “More patients.”

Patience has been in short supply for me for almost forever. But, then one day it just arrived out of thin air. I didn’t notice it as patience at first, but something was different.

When I was doing crossword puzzles, I noticed I was less annoyed when I couldn’t figure out some of the words. I would just sit and wait and, like magic, poof, there was the answer.

After that experience kept happening on a regular basis, I finally recognized that patience had arrived.

That provided me with a new definition for the word “patience”: the time that it takes

I’m not yet a poster boy for patience, but I’m heading in that direction. It’s showing up in so many other areas of my life and it’s been well worth the wait.

Patience brings gifts that impatience never delivers. It’s truly in our best interest to be more patient.

So how do you go about being more patient? I wish I knew because, for me, it just came out of the blue.

But, if I had to hazard a guess, one way to get more of it is to notice impatience when it arrives. Just the sheer noticing that you’re being impatient, is enough of an interruption to keep it at bay. Interrupting impatience every time you notice will put you at the doorstep of change much quicker than me who had to wait a lifetime for patience to arrive.

All the best,

John
