Who Am I?

I was sitting in a doctors’ office waiting room and observing the other folks who were there. They were people of all ages, all ethnic backgrounds, and all sizes and shapes. Here’s the thought that popped into my mind:

“I’m you with different experiences.”

It didn’t matter that their exteriors, shapes, and colors were different than mine. The message was clear: Beneath our housing, we’re all the same.

We don’t have the same beliefs, preferences, prejudices, or experiences, but we do have the same life force that animates us.

That’s the commonality between you, me, and everybody else.

I got this reminder from out of the blue, but it’s something that would be useful to remember, especially when you judge people as different from you.

Rather than focusing on exterior differences, give your attention to the common thread that we all have until we’re dead.

Celebrate the life-force that inhabits every one of us and you’ll go through life kicking up less of a fuss.

You are me and I am you, and we’re all worthy of the respect that each one of us is due.

All the best,

John
