How Do Dreams Die?

Honestly, I don’t know for sure. But I’ve got a hunch.

I think dreams die in our heads—when we overthink them. See, logic is great, but it can also smother creativity. And creativity is what actually helps bring dreams to life.

But here’s the thing—just dreaming all the time won’t get you there either. If you never take action, your dreams just stay… dreams. It reminds me of something philosopher Alan Watts said:

"If I think all the time, I won’t have anything to think about except my own thoughts."

Basically, if all you do is think, you never bring in anything new. It’s like a library that only has books about itself—nothing fresh, nothing exciting.

So how do you keep a dream alive? Again, I don’t have a perfect answer, but here’s what I suspect: Dream BIG.

The bigger the dream, the more creative you have to get to make it real. And creativity isn’t just for artists or geniuses—it’s in all of us. We just need to clear some space in our heads and let it do its thing.

If we constantly tell ourselves, “It’s impossible” or just keep jumping from one dream to the next without action (kind of like chain-smoking but with ideas), we shut creativity out.

Dreaming big is like aiming for the moon. Even if you don’t make it, you’ll still end up among the stars—way farther than if you just sat around thinking, “Nah, that’ll never happen.”

So if your dream feels like it’s on life support, try this: Pretend it can happen. Act as if it’s possible. That little shift might be all it takes to get you moving.

Go for it, Dream BIG!

All the best,

John
