Life And Depth
For a lot of people, the idea of going deep—really deep—into themselves feels like dying. And in a way, it is.
Depth goes against what we usually think of as “life.” Most of us define our lives by our personal stories: the things we've done, what’s happened to us, and how we tell it all to ourselves and others.
It’s a rarely cited fact—we all carry a life story with us, and it's massive. So massive, it makes War and Peace feel like a quick read.
Going into your depth means letting go of that story, even just for a moment. It's about experiencing life directly, not just narrating it in our heads.
That story? It doesn't need a new chapter—it needs a pause. Maybe even a full stop. Because it’s only when we loosen our grip on the story that we can truly drop into the deeper experience of life.
When we let our story quiet down, something amazing happens—we access depth. We touch the source, the wellspring of real life that’s been there all along.
There’s always something alive and vibrant moving beneath the surface. Most of the time, we miss it. We think we are our stories. But we’re not.
Life itself isn’t angry, depressed, or hopeless. It’s not defensive or lost. Life is like a river—it just flows. It doesn’t have time to carry around those heavy, story-based emotions.
But every time we cling to our story—especially the painful parts—we block that flow. We slow it down. And each time we do, we take a small step away from the life that’s truly ours.
So maybe it’s time to stop repeating the tales of woe. Honestly, no one’s really listening anymore—and all it’s doing is getting in the way of what wants to move through you.
Life. Depth. That’s what makes you feel alive—not just existing, but really living.
So, can you make the choice to lay your story down? Just for a while?
It’s one decision. One conscious choice. And it’s the doorway to something real. Not a fantasy, not a role—just you. Because in the end, it’s not just a matter of life and death.
It’s a matter of life and depth.
All the best,
John
