Suspicious vehicle leads to sexual assault arrest

La Vernia police responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Jan. 11 arrested a Fort Worth man for sexual assault of a child. Peter E. Ruiz, 23, who was the driver of the vehicle, was detained by police in the 300 block of McCoy Street in La Vernia after refusing to identify himself, saying he was visiting a girlfriend nearby, who he also refused to identify. Investigation by officers on the scene revealed that Ruiz had driven from Fort Worth to visit a 15-year-old female he met online, without the parents’ knowledge. Further evidence showed that he had...
