- Ask for a portfolio or examples of their work
- Schedule a VIDEO call.
- Do you vibe with them?
- Negotiate a rate.
- Hourly / Episode by Episode
- Know the LINGO and talk some SHOP.
- What DAW do you use?
- Audacity RED FLAG
- Garageband RED FLAG
- What noise reduction solution do you use?
- What compressor do you use?
- Do you like to use a DE-ESSER?
- Do you use a lot of EQ?
- What mastering or Limiting plugins do you use?
- Do you remove filler words?
- Test the waters
- Have some episodes ready
- Be slow to hire, quick to fire
- Make sure they deliver a high-quality sound
- Make sure they make their deadline
- Consider trying out 2 or 3 editors at the same time.
