What has been your journey as an artist? How did you get started?

I’ve been writing and singing ever since I can really remember but it wasn’t until I was around 14-years-old that I remember I started to experiment with my sound a little bit. When I released this last EP which was a little over a year ago was when everything really started because that’s when “Backyard Boy” was released and when it really picked up although I did drop a couple songs before that but otherwise I wouldn’t really consider my career to have started until “Backyard Boy” which was a little over a year ago and it was just kind of crazy because everything went super fast. I still feel like I haven’t really processed it but it’s been really crazy and really cool.

When do you feel the most inspired to create?

I feel the most inspired to create probably later in the day when I am supposed to be going to bed but otherwise it kind of comes and goes. Sometimes when I hear a cool beat or chord progression or melody or whatever else it may be, that’s when it is really inspiring for me but honestly it could be whenever.

What inspired you to create '6 Of A Billion'? What was the process

like?

“6 Of A Billion” was pretty much put together the same way my first EP was which was me just going through old journals and notebooks and compiling a bunch of my favorite songs that I had written at the time and just putting them into six songs. The song “6 Of A Billion” menas there’s six songs in the EP so these are just six of a billion songs that I plan to release.

How has the pandemic affected your role as an artist?

The pandemic has definitely affected me as an artist. I released my first EP around a year ago and it had “Backyard Boy” in it and “Backyard Boy” pretty much did everything for me. I haven’t been able to have any in-person interactions with people who have listened to my music, I haven’t been able to perform so it’s definitely been a different experience but I am also super thankful for the time that I’ve had and even though the pandemic was horrific I was super fortunate that I was able to harness that time into music and working with my dad which has been super cool. I’m just super excited to be able to get to perform and talk to people and meet people in person who I have been talking to through social media for over a year.

What has been your favorite collaboration with another artist?

I actually don’t really know. I haven’t really done that many collaborations but I guess one that sticks out to me is “Change Your Mind” by Sarcastic Sounds. I was featured on it so it was Clinton Kane and that was a fun one. I do enjoy listening to that one. That’s probably my favorite one right now.

What was your experience like creating the 'Backyard Boy' music

video last year?

“Backyard Boy” music video was a whole entire thing. It was basically put on by my family and friends and since it was during the pandemic we had very limited options and people and all that stuff. My uncle basically directed it and my cousin did a lot of work on it, my dad was obviously co-directing it and doing everything there too. We had a family friend of ours do makeup and stuff and I had my friends in the music video as well so it was crazy. It was almost 100 degrees outside all day and we were filming mostly outside and when we were filming inside there was no A/C. It was just really hot and sweaty ubt at the end of the day it’s a good memory and I had a good time. That was my first real music video experience.

How do you hope to impact your audience?

I want to impact my audience by giving them something to relate to which I think is a lot of artists’ wishes. I want them to look at my music and think, “I can relate to her” and “I can vibe with her through music”. I just want them to be happy. I want them to have my songs be their go-to songs when they get in their car that they can jam out to. I think everybody wants that but it’s just the best feeling when somebody comes up to you or DMs me on Instagram telling me that I helped them through something and understood how they were feeling and put words to their emotions which is such a good feeling.

What message do you hope to convey to your fans?

A message that I want to convey to my fans is that you guys are all just really cool and I hope you know that and don’t forget it. I hope you don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not because you are all amazing, awesome and cool. I love you guys, you guys are the best and I love being able to talk to you guys. Please know that I don’t talk to dumb or stupid people so you guys are not dumb and stupid people because I love you guys.

What does 'authenticity' mean to you?

Authenticity to me would probably be just being yourself and staying grounded in the person that you are because it really does make you authentic. It will draw other people to you if you just stick to your roots.

What are you most looking forward to post-pandemic?

Post-pandemic I am looking forward to performing, meeting people in person, hanging out with all the people that I’ve been DMing and all that stuff over Instagram and social media platforms. I’m just really looking forward to performing and human interaction. Performing is the goal right now and I am going on tour so I am looking forward to that very much.

Who inspires you musically?

Definitely my dad, my mom, my whole entire family but probably overall my dad because I do make all my music with him and I have just grown up watching him in the studio ever since I was little. He would bring me in the studio ever since I was eight-years-old so I’ve watched him do it all my life. Now I get to do it with him which is really exciting and I get to do it with him, my mom, my grandmas and just so many people in my family.

What advice do you think is helpful for aspiring artists?

My advice would be that it’s never not going to be scary so you just have to go for it. With putting yourself out there, it is always going to be a little bit nerve-wracking but once you do it, it’s always worth it and if you have a good support system or not. If you want to do it, you have to go for it. It’s going to be scary and you’re probably going to care what people think but regardless of that if this is something that you are really passionate about and really want to do then the only person who can do it is you. You’re also the only person that can really get in your way so it’s really all in your hands. You just have to do it because I did it and I was so nervous to put myself out there because I was nervous about what my friends and family would think. It gets scarier and then easier and it has paid off.

Does living in Los Angeles have an influence on your music?

I’ve lived in L.A. my entire life so it probably has had an effect on my music but if it does i’m not really sure. I guess the culture of it does. Yes and no.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Ten years is far, I have no idea where I’m going to be in ten years. I don;t even know what I can be doing in ten years but hopefully I’m still doing music, hopefully I am a really big artist. That would be amazing. That is my dream. That’s kind of scary to think what I’ll be doing in ten years but I really hope that I’m doing what I’m doing now but on a way bigger scale and performing for lots of people.
