Hi everybody. It's Lindsay. I just wanted to give you a quick update about what's going on with ADWIT, the audio drama writer's independent toolkit. It has been a minute or ten since last we published an episode. What has been going on? So a while back, Sarah had a medical event in her family. I would tell you all about it, but that would be a HIPAA violation and I could go to jail. No, seriously, I told her please go spend some more time with your family, and she did. We did both run off and go do some solo projects which may be relevant to your interests.
Lindsay:First of all, you want to know that Sarah is one of the team who is bringing the Audio Drama Hub Podfest to life, which is happening on November 4th 2023. This is a one-day get-together for audio drama creatives and it is taking place in High Wycombe, if I'm pronouncing that correctly. It is a one-day get-together for audio drama creatives and the keynote speaker will be Mariel Runaker Temple, who is an award-winning audio director, producer and casting director and a proud member of the Casting Director's Guild. So there's going to be all kinds of panels and discussions. It's a nice small podcasting conference. It's in a you know, in one day and in a nice small place. And for those of us who are not in the UK and can't get there easily, there are streaming tickets, which are 25 pounds or whatever your local currency's equivalent is, and I'm going to give you a link in the show notes to give you more information about that if you would like to be able to watch and listen to the exciting things that they're going to be talking about at the Audio Drama Hub Podfest. So Sarah's Hard at Work on that and I am working on the 11th Hour Audio Challenge, which I know we've talked about before. But in case you want to know about the 11th Hour Audio Challenge, I'm reading from their website here the 11th Hour Audio Challenge is a yearly event that encourages teams to create original audio shows in October and the scripts must be under 30 pages and deadlines are at 11 pm on October 28th, and they encourage you to do all of the work in October, although you can write your script Before that. I didn't. I chose to write my script this month. So Vince and I are finishing up the editing process so that we can send it in. If you want to learn more about it, you want to visit 11thhouraudiocom and I will put a link in the show notes. And also, if you miss the dulcet tones of Sarah Golding, she has been hard at work on Oz9 and Red Odyssey from Denouncer Media, so you can give those two a listen.
Lindsay:We want to know what you want from ADWIT moving forward. Do you want more strategies for dealing with obstacles to writing? Do you want more writing exercises and prompts? Do you want us to do a deep dive into genre writing, like writing horror or writing romantic comedies, things like that? Do you want interviews with other audio drama writers? Do you want information about producing your own audio drama podcast? I feel like there's a lot of that out there, but maybe you want to hear it from us. So to that end, we are going to put up a survey, which will be linked on the adwit. org website, so that you can tell us more about what you want to hear from us. In the meantime, you can write to us at writersadwit at gmail. com. Again, that's the word writers followed by the word adwit at gmail. com. And I've got some listening recommendations for you, because it is spooky season and also because I'm always saying to you write the show that you can produce.
Lindsay:And here are some things that I think would be really good examples. One of them is Hallway to Nowhere, which you can find wherever fine podcasts are dispensed, and I will put a link to their website in the show notes. I do not want to spoil it for you, but Hallway to Nowhere is: It's a show that can be done with two people very easily, and it is one of the most compelling audio dramas I've heard this year, this year. Another one that I would recommend.
Lindsay:This is another 11th hour audio piece. It's actually two podcast episodes. They're called EVP, that's, electronic voice phenomena EVP side B and EVP side A. Those are both 11th hour audio pieces from 2022. So when you get to the podcast episodes page on their website, you want to scroll way down. I highly recommend listening to those If you're thinking about write the show you can produce.
Lindsay:And another one that I heard just recently that I really enjoyed and it is a great example of what you can do with two people and a lot of hard work. Longcat Media has many shows, most notably Mockery Manor, and they also have their show. Ghosted was excellent. Madam Magenta and her trusty husband Bernard, who I love both of them performed at the London podcast festival and they did a live show. That is a very simple two person episode and it struck the right balance between funny, satirical and thought provoking and scary. I highly recommend it. Give it a listen and let's have some fun.
Lindsay:I am going to give you a writing exercise this time. Write a page or so of dialogue using the following four sounds, all of which are from freesoundorg. Ready go. (Sounds) Okay, yes, this was an extremely short show but, like I said, we're in a holding pattern and figuring out what we're gonna do next. And also it's October, which is the cruelest month. Everything happens in October. That's our show. We want to hear from you, again, write to us at writersadwit@gmail. com. We're gonna have a survey coming soon with fabulous prizes, and thank you for listening. You know you're out there. Thank you for joining us, thank you for being here, and we will work together with you soon.
