Cradle to Grave: The U.S. Infant Mortality Crisis

Anju and Paige Season 1 Episode 8

In this episode we spill all the tea on the U.S. infant mortality crisis. In the U.S. the national infant mortality rate (as of 2018) is 5.7 deaths per 1,000 live births but Black babies in the U.S. die at a disproportionate rate and Black families experience an infant mortality rate of 10.8 deaths per 1,000 live births. Black babies are dying at a 2-3 times higher rate than babies of other racial ethnic groups from causes that are typically preventable. Join us as we define infant mortality and explore “the why” behind the crisis. And so we all don’t get too depressed, in this episode we also share what work is being done to reverse the disparities in Black birth outcomes.
