Why is it so hard for us to talk about our emotions?

**Trigger Warning: Discussing Suicide in some parts**

Inspired by a Louis Theroux recent documentary on mental health and motherhood.

We’re scared to talk about our emotions because we don’t understand them. We haven’t been educated on them, and most of the time we don’t know what they all mean or what they mean to us, more importantly.

My perspective - emotions just have these “general” stigmas attached to them - and it’s what we have (as a society) just picked up on.

When you’re asked, how do you want to feel in your everyday life? Most of us say, we want to be happy. But I want to ask you, what does happiness feel like for you? What does happiness look like for you? We tend to just grab society’s view of “happy” and try to create a life around that, yet when we get these “things”, do “the things”, we find ourselves not being happy.

So why is it so hard for us to talk about our emotions?

Because we feel scared and vulnerable which is uncomfortable, which can lead to conflict, don’t want to hurt people's feelings

If I say I feel lonely - yet there are so many people in my life - we don’t want to hurt anyone's feelings, so we don’t say anything.

My hope is that at the end of the episode you’ll;

  1. Be inspired to spend more time getting to know who you are
  2. Have a new perspective around emotions
  3. Be even more motivated to get Vulnerable and share thoughts and feelings and help save more lives.

I would be ever so grateful if this episode resonated with you, if this episode touched you, please shoot me a 5 star review on apple podcasts - it would mean the world

Thanks again for listening

BIG LOVE

Lou
