Still Saved

Welcome to "The Still Saved Show," where we delve into the remarkable stories of individuals who have experienced life-changing transformations through the power of God. In this week's episode, we have the privilege of hosting an incredible guest: Johnny Douglas Gentry III, Chief Executive Officer of Community Works CDC.

Born in Houston, Texas, and raised in Central California, Johnny's early life was fraught with challenges. He navigated a troubled youth, entangled in gangs, drugs, and crime. However, he found solace in athletics and his Christian upbringing, which helped him survive the harsh realities of the California streets. Johnny's journey took a turn when he was recruited by Santa Clara University in 1989 to play college football. Unfortunately, a career-ending knee injury led him to a personal rock bottom.

It was during this time of darkness that Johnny underwent a spiritual transformation that would shape his life's purpose—serving others. Answering a divine calling, he became a preacher of The Gospel, firmly believing that his past mistakes would one day serve as a powerful testimony to uplift and inspire others.

With over 20 years of experience in social services and ministry, Johnny has worked with notable organizations such as Change Happens, Star of Hope Men's Development Center, and Free Indeed Ministries, which he founded in 2003. His expertise spans substance abuse counseling, housing for ex-offenders, at-risk youth intervention, juvenile offender mentor programming, workforce development training, and life management counseling.

As the founder and CEO of Community Works CDC, a faith-based 501(c)(3) community development corporation, Johnny is dedicated to fostering Youth Development, Workforce Development, and Economic Redevelopment in Northeast Houston. He is also the founding pastor of Freedom Church International, an inter-denominational spirit-filled church situated in Northeast Houston, with four congregations under his oversight in Kenya, Africa.
