Maranda Bower:

Depression, anxiety and autoimmune symptoms after birth is not how it's supposed to be. There is a much better way, and I'm here to show you how to do just that. Hey, my friend, I'm Miranda Bauer, a mother to four kids and a biology student turned scientist obsessed with changing the world through postpartum care. Join us as we talk to mothers and the providers who serve them and getting evidence-based information that actually supports the mind, body and soul in the years after birth. Welcome to this special episode on our podcast.

Maranda Bower:

Today I am celebrating the release of my new book, which is most different than anything I have ever put into the world today, and I am so nervous about putting this in the world because it's really, really personal to me. I have so many incredibly personal stories that I have not shared in the world with anyone about my confidence level, about getting clients and all of the things it's called Confidence and Clients. It's a postpartum pro playbook and it's actually a completely free book download for supporting postpartum professionals and building confidence and getting clients and building a thriving business in this field, and although I probably share more about the book today, I'll do that. I really want to have a conversation about why I have focused my attention here. I have been speaking to moms for so many years and even though I have been working with professionals for just as long, that's not necessarily going to change, and actually we have really big plans to work with moms even more in the coming years. This thing, this book, needed to happen in a way that I have not ever experienced before. I have noticed such a massive problem as I've been working with professionals over the course of so many years. I see many women in the field who are doing this work, suffering from this very thing, who are doing this work, suffering from this very thing. The most amazing women who are unsure, feeling like a fake, trying everything they can to succeed, yet getting absolutely nowhere. And for the first 10 years of my business, I had struggled hard with the exact same thing Lack of self-confidence, imposter syndrome, feeling like I didn't get or didn't deserve to get paid for my work and therefore I didn't. And, to be a hundred percent transparent, this is the thing that I'm so nervous about, because I'm sharing with you my intimate personal experiences through all of this, like how I flubbed on stage where, the time I got a high level colleague who I really, really loved, I had multiple books of hers. I had uh, I was doing a course of hers. She legit ripped me to pieces. I even talk about how I quit my business five different times y'all.

Maranda Bower:

So why is this happening? Why am I creating this book? Why did I do this? I talk about this in my free book, confidence and Clients, and I have the download for you. Just go to the show notes. It's postpartumu the letter ucom slash playbook, and if you're resonating with this and it sounds so good and so juicy, I will tell you you are not the only one here. Oh, my gosh, really, this was something that I experienced so deeply and so many women I have seen in doing this work, doing the hard work of supporting others, is feeling the exact same way. What I often think is missing is that so many people rely on the strategy of business, like they go 100%, all in on strategy, and that is so wrong. I did the exact same thing and I will tell you it is not about the strategy, like it has a role in it, but I will tell you 80% of it is about the confidence.

Maranda Bower:

There's this book that's different than mine, and I talk about it actually in my book called the Secrets of Six Figure Women by Barbara Stani. It's a little bit older, but it delves into the lives of some of the most successful and inspiring women, and it's very, very revealing how they all share the same commonality. They grapple with imposter syndrome. They all battle with these major fears of self-doubt, and so the truth is that this is something we all experience. Every person on the planet has this inner voice whispering doubts and insecurities, and the real difference is how we respond and if we understand why our brains are doing this, what our triggers are and really how to work through it. That is how we're going to make such massive improvement, so that we don't have to necessarily deal with it. It doesn't become the forefront of our experience and then we can just work through it, and that's the key difference between so many people in the field.

Maranda Bower:

Women who are highly successful still have the exact same fears and insecurities as someone who may be just beginning or doesn't feel very successful. The only difference is the highly successful women choose to do it anyway, despite the thing that's showing up in their head telling them not to, and so that is why I wrote this book is to give like the actual tools, the things that I have learned over the last 15 plus years of being in business, how that I work with my own intuition, how I work with my own limiting beliefs and self-doubts. They still exist, they're still there, but it's so much easier to just be like, oh okay, I understand why that's coming and now I know exactly how to move forward. They're like points of growth for me. They're no longer this hindrance.

Maranda Bower:

If that were true, if it were, I would have never released this book because, again, like I'm telling you, it's made me nervous because I'm sharing with you some really intimate things. So again that self-doubt saying what am I doing? Is this the right move? I'm sharing with you some really intimate things. So again that self-doubt saying what am I doing? Is this the right move? I'm sharing some stuff that's a really personal. How are people going to respond? And also, how are people going to respond to me releasing a book about business? I don't want postpartum to be about business. That's not the thing, and I'm going to talk a little bit about that here very, very shortly. But I will tell you that little voice still lurks inside of me and it works its way through so many components, but it's now a tool that I use for myself.

Maranda Bower:

Here's a quote from my book, confidence and Clients, direct quote the question isn't whether you're good enough or whether you should be doing the important work. The question is are you okay moving forward despite that voice in your head? One of the stories I share in my book is how I quit my business five different times, and if I actually stuck any of that out, I like not started a business again or decided that I wasn't going to quit, I would legit never be here today, which is so insane to think about, because we have saved lives at Postpartum University not including the lives we've changed, but the lives we've saved People who are still here on this planet because of what we share and how we support. It's really tough to swallow. It's also really hard to say A big part of me doesn't want to carry that responsibility or to venture thinking that my work is so important. But the reality of that is true and I have to own that and take great care of it too. And so many of you need to do the exact same damn thing.

Maranda Bower:

Working and serving postpartum women is changing and saving lives. That's the work you do and it isn't for the faint of heart. It isn't going to come easy. It's going to come with a bunch of responsibility, and all that fear inside of you of whether you're good enough, whether you're supposed to do this, is, on some level, going to come roaring up. And you need to know and this is a direct quote from my book too if I had interpreted every setback as a sign that God didn't want me to continue, I would have never have started, that God didn't want me to continue. I would have never have started. Instead, I ask important questions, journal my perspective, give thanks for the lessons learned and then use them as catalysts for personal and professional growth.

Maranda Bower:

If you don't do it this way, if you don't try to learn from and navigate the challenges that are gonna come through and instead use them as an excuse of why you're not good enough or why you shouldn't have started, you're going to quit. The stat of people quitting in this field is like 85%. It's absolutely insane. And it has nothing to do with it being hard work. We're used to hard work. We do hard work all the time. Instead, it has everything to do with you not believing in yourself and not taking care of yourself, which is a direct reflection of your self-worth and your confidence. And then you have burnout and quitting. So I'm glad that I stuck out nearly a decade with few clients and what I would call a very failing business, just so that I have what I have now, and we're impacting lives in a way that I would have never imagined before, and there's more.

Maranda Bower:

This isn't the only reason I chose to do this. It's us, the small individuals, not the large corporations, that's going to make the difference in the postpartum world. We're the ones who are passionate. We're the ones on the ground floor doing the work, the work that's actually making a change in the postpartum world. And when you invest in women, they in turn invest in their communities and their families. When women are successful, everyone is successful.

Maranda Bower:

One of my favorite quotes from the book Confidence and Clients. This just flew out of me when I was writing, and it deserves an entire book all in and of itself. And here's the quote we are not the keepers of wisdom, we are the facilitators, providing tools and guidance that enable long-term health and resilience. Really, this is not just another book launch, it's a movement. Having a business in the postpartum field matters so much. It's not, again, the large corporations that are going to make the change in this postpartum landscape. It's us, the passionate, small individuals on the ground floor, who are making the difference, and when you invest in yourself, you change so many lives, so many more than you even know right now.

Maranda Bower:

Imagine deeply what it would feel like in your body to be successful doing the work of your dreams. Imagine believing in yourself, having confidence and supporting women and thriving long-term. Oh my gosh, imagine the women you support feeling well, feeling inspired to do the same for others you did for them. Do you see the ripple effect? What would the world look like if communities all over the world had women with confidence and self-worth and the wisdom to care for their bodies deeply? I just got goosebumps Like legit. This world would be so different.

Maranda Bower:

Go download this today. I am providing this free. I will never charge for this book. This book is completely free because I really believe we all need it. This is something that you're struggling with, even if it's not something related to the postpartum field in terms of maybe you don't have a business in this field, but you are struggling with self-confidence.

Maranda Bower:

That's what makes Postpartum University so incredible and so important is that I'm giving you things that you can tangibly do. I'm giving you again that wisdom so that I'm not the keeper of wisdom Like I'm passing that along to you.
